It is correct that you get Dutch menu if you playing settings are on Dutch, because Dutch is at on disc together with Spanish and English. The dvd has only English and Dutch settings and if you player not be set on Dutch than you get only see English Chevron.
Graves vergot to say Dutch release of CR 2 disc CE BD not be in digibook and missing booklet, this be exclusief for 3 dvd release (But look out there messing with the disc, there at commentary but making the audio track lower then first disc from first 2 disc dvd.) and booklet not be in Dutch.
I own none of the DC movies yet. Best thing to do is buy the 3 dvd for package and booklet and 2 disc CR/QOS BD set for HD-MA track on CR disc and QOS. You stil mis the video commentary and difrent menu's from 2 disc CE. If you don't mind to have CR in Dolby True HD then of course 3 dvd and 2 disc CE is best option and buy QOS solo like Skyfall. But iam not intrest,it already take very long to collect. So deside to wait on new release of QOS with HD MA track more bonus material, 2 disc CE of CR include booklet atleast and earlier then that it wil not end in my collection. Til that be fixed, of course you wil understand there is also no case of Skyfall of course.
Soon GF steelbook wil be released in NL too, but with € 40,00 way to much and also if i get it for free i don't whant. I only whant buy/collect the first 20 movies on BD if going to be 2 disc BD with a second disc with more material and then all in boxset. I always consider Goldeneye as the only movie to buy on UE dvd whas Goldeneye.
Thanks for the info. That's interesting, I didn't know that DVD players had different country or language settings, I always assumed it was just set to Region 2 or whatever. Now I'm curious to see if I can get the other menu! I should probably leave it alone as it could get stuck. :)
I'm truly dying to see a proper re-release of all Bond films, on Blu-Ray, in steelbook, with at least 2 discs, all of them with poster art on the front cover ("Casino Royale - DeLuxe Blu-Ray so far is the only georgeous Blu-Ray release with extensive features on a 2nd disc. "Skyfall", "GoldenEye" & "Goldfinger" so far only Blu-Ray steelbooks with georgeous cover design)!
I also have the 50th anniversary box set. And the DeLuxe Edition from "Casino Royale" with 2 disc's. And I have the 1967 version of "Casino Royale" and "Never Say Never Again" on blu-ray.
The thing is, I find the casing from the 50th anniversary box a bit....cheap :-(. It's all cardboard with shiny paper layers on it, but it gets damaged so easily.
On top of that, I do think every of the 23 (25) Bond films deserve a proper steelbook treatment with original poster design on it :-(. Just look to other franchises, like "The Dark Knight", "Mission: Impossible" and even "Star Trek". They are all available in steelbooks. Bond deserves that too.
The pictures speak for themselves. They are indeed stunning. Sadly, so far only these four Bond films, "GF", "GE", "CR" & "SF" are available in blu-ray steelbook.
But unlike the other franchises you mention, we have 23 films. There are a fair few that would be bought purely by enthusiasts and no one else, so it's commercially redundant, whether we like it or not. Personally I like the 50th anniversary collection. I've owned it since day one and it's still in the same condition. The steel books are ok, but nothing particularly special IMO.
Basically, all steelbooks are bought be geeky enthusiasts and no one else. They are much more collector's items than normal plastic cased blur-ray discs.
Disney for instance actually earns quite a big chunk of money on these steelbooks, both with their Marvel films, Walt Disney Cartoon Classics and Pixar films. Warner/New Line has the Lord Of The Rings franchise (6 films) and the Harry Potter franchise (7 films, plus spin-off in pre-production) brought out in steelbook format. All Star Trek titles are in steelbook format (12 films). And at the end of this decade, Star Wars will have 12 films out on steelbook as well. And if you like more arthouse/drama films, then check the Stanley Kubrick steelbook collection.
I just think the Bond franchise deserves a better treatment with regard to casings. I agree that the "Goldfinger" steelbook is really beautiful. So why not producing 22 more of such beautiful Bond steelbooks. There IS a market for steelbooks, as long as they are pricy enough (They are never cheap), and as long as there's a market for it. Just check eBay.
Here are some examples of franchises that know how to treat their fans well, with simply stunning, beautiful steelbooks:
The Harry Potter franchise in steelbook format:
The Star Trek franchise in steelbook format:
The Star Wars franchise in steelbook format:
Walt Disney Classics in steelbook format:
The Fast & Furious collection in steelbook format:
Stanley Kubrick steelbook collection:
Yeah, I get that. I don't really see Bond fans as 'geeks' as such, I hate that term, but a lot of us would consider ourselves enthusiasts, or aficionados. You only have to read this forum to know that Bond fans do not splash their cash at the drop of a hat in the way Marvel fans, or Star Trek fans might. A lot of people on here don't even own all the films, never mind on blu-ray, so I can see why they'd be reluctant to launch a full range of steel books if the fan base isn't even bothered about picking up standard versions.
I don't think it's any coincidence that outside CR and SF, the other steel books are GF and GE. As much as I love the film, is there a market for an AVTAK steel book? I'm not so sure. Perhaps on a limited run of say 2000 copies, flogging them at £40 a pop, but then EON are never too fussed about things like this, it's not commercially advantageous in the long run.
I own the steel books and would obviously consider buying them all if they were released, but EON are not big on this kind of thing, so it wouldn't surprise me if they never see the light of day. After 25+ years of following Bond, I'm used to us getting very little in comparison to other franchises, which is why my money goes on slightly more substantial pieces from the past.
I think it's not too much EON, but moreover the distributor's of home entertainment in the first place. I think Sony did it together with MGM until 2007 I think, and then 20th Century Fox teamed up with MGM and actually started to distribute 9 steelbooks in North-America. Until MGM came in financial difficulty around 2010/2011. Then they just quit further Bond films in steelbook format. Actually, all BluRay package production/distribution around that time was put on hold, resulting in incomplete series. For instance these three volumes, each containing 3 Bond films. After Volume 3 Fox/MGM simply...quit:
And this is the North-American steelbook release of the same series of Bond films:
I must be honest though, I really don't like the design of the above 9 steelbooks. Hence why I stick to the four I have right now. I just hope....that in the future just one bigger movie production company takes care of everything @RC7! I mean, come on, MGM has become so damn tiny. So everytime, after 2 or 3 new Bond films contracts of cinematic distribution and home entertainment production/distribution need to be renegotiated. It's happening right now, after Sony's contract with EON/MGM is over after SP.
It kind of irritates me. And in the end the fans, the collectors, are the ones being exposed to these lousy constructions. They "suffer" from it. We Bond fans deserve some better treatment I think. Look to other franchises.
Hope more in the pipeline soon
Actually, it was a limited edition released by online shop play.com in 2012, with license from Fox Home Entertainment. The limited edition steelbook was released to include it with the first wave of the 50th anniversary BluRay set. People were able to vote in a poll for two designs, one with a Bond pose from Brosnan to promote GoldenEye and one that basically features the original poster design. Eventually the steelbook with poster design won:

I'm fairly confident though that "SPECTRE" will be released as a steelbook too in 2016.
It took me a while to work out why they chose those seve movies. Eventually I realised that the link is Spectre. Well, if you substitute Casino Royale for Dr No.
Here is the link
