I take it this will be 6 issues as usual? I'm excited to see how this goes. I haven't read Young Bond.

Happy for new Bond comics, but not terribly excited for older Young Bond. Hopefully Diggle or Percy will return soon.

A thought just came to me. Could there be a Hugo Drax Easter egg for us? He did fight in WW2. Dynamite wants to at least make a Moonraker graphic novel.

Well Moonraker isn't too far from being adapted into graphic novel form by now. Cut to a panel showing a Nazi solider who gets burned in the face. Hopefully not by Bond, though! That would be as bad as Spectre Bond-Blofeld step brother reveal! Also, I really think FAAD really pushed back some of Dynamite’s projects. Think about it: they’re all period pieces at beginning of Bond’s life. I think IFP wanted everything out in a specific way. After the success of both FAAD in the UK and the graphic novel of Casino Royale, I think that they finally decided to go ahead on James Bond Origin. I also think not having a movie for so long and no official announcements until recently have helped. Waiting for all these will hopefully pay off.

My guess is that for the next spin off is Blofeld. Show his early life and how he built Spectre and his employees (Largo, Irma Bunt).

Oh bloody hell no! What is it with these 'origin'
fantasies? Why does everyone want to make his early life exciting? It chips away at the legend. It's far more interesting to have the idea that, given the right sercumstances, any person could've ended up in his place. But noooo, Bond was special from his early childhood, like some sort of superman. I hate that! Let his past be his past and give us a full grown agent!

And here was I just getting interested in these albums because of Hammerhead.

I agree with you. That's why I don't like the Young Bond books. What made the Bond character special was that he wasn't born special but has become one. These early books depict him as some sort of an adventurer who craves and lives for danger. I don't remember Bond ever being that person in the books, nor the films. No sign, no hints. But, with Indiana Jones that was evident. Not with Bond, however.

Thing is, James Bond Origin was planned from the day Dynamite got hold of the license. It's just that I wasn't expecting them to de-age Bond in a 1941 setting to a bloody teenager. To me, a teenager's story is not interesting in the slightest. I was expecting them to announce how Bond got into the Naval Intelligence and operated from there. Now, these are the kind of "origins" that I want. Not his teenage escapades. Young adult, I'd accept. Teenager? A big no.

That said, I'll wait to be surprised. Jeff Parker happens to be a great writer.

Never read any of the Young Bond stories, except for the Silverfin comic adaption (which i liked a lot) and i can understand your concerns.
I would have prefered if they called it War Years instead of Origins.
What is still different about this compared to Young Bond though, is that this is a war story.
You will see Bond at the frontline, he will do a lot of stuff he was not able to do in the Young Bond books. He will grow up pretty quickly i would think.
As for changing his back story or demystifying him, well, James Bond WAS in the war, he joined as a 17 year old, They did not make that up. As long as they don't make him kill Hitler in his volcano lair and save all of Europe all by himself i don't exactly see a problem here.
The great thing about comics, as i mentioned often before, is that they are so small scale that you can easily ignore they ever happened if you don't like them compared to a big budget EoN movie.
I do prefer the cool, suave, fully developed world traveler, but i certainly would not mind seeing a little 'behind the curtain' so to speak, as long as it is done right and not at odds with Flemings depiction.
In the end all that matters is the content of the Book, rather than my perception of what it will be... in which case i remain optimistic as always :)

I do hope though that Dynamite will release a contemporary story at the same time, from Diggle for example.

Yes, he was a 17y/o in the war and yes he signed up, as thousands of young britons did. His, therefore, is not a special story. If you're telling me it's going to be depicted like that it's ok, but to be frank I don't see the added value in that. And I'd expect to make him stand out already, which I dread.

Interesting couple tweets from CR writer Van Jensen about Origins:

Looks like there will be more story arcs coming, or this will be a long ongoing series

Any recommendations for where to start with the comics? I'm more interested in the original stories than the adaptations. Never really been a comic book guy (2000ad when I was younger and I have V for Vendetta somewhere because I loved the film, but that's about it really) but I'm craving new Bond. I was working my way through the Gardeners but they weren't for me. Waiting on Forever and a Day to arrive but thinking after that I might jump into the comics rather than getting more continuation novels, because I haven't heard great things about most of Gardner and Benson and so far, Colonel Sun and Trigger Mortis were the only ones I really enjoyed.

I'm up for any style of Bond really but my favourites are Dalton and Brosnan, if that helps. I'm getting deja vu writing this so if I've been on this thread to ask this before and forgotten then I'm very sorry x

@thelivingroyale, I wrote this little summary of Bond comics about two years back, I plan on expanding on it soon. Hope it helps, mate.

This is described as an ongoing so should be more than 6 issues. Colour me excited.

Yes, it is. It's a whole new series rather than a miniseries.

Although, I wonder whatever happened to the contemporary monthly series. We've only had three entries in there so far. Those being VARGR, Eidolon and Black Box.

Just finished the Body. I quite enjoyed #6 as a stand-alone. It's a nice two hander set in a pub. It's probably best to judge this issue on it's own. The prior 5 issues have been atrocious. I will admit that the art is gorgeous in this issue!
No word of Bond Origins within the pages of this.

    Agreed.
Issue 6 was decent, the writing was witty and the dialogue between Bond and Felix felt authentic. Casalanguida outdid himself with the art here i felt. I liked issue 1 as well (art was done by Casalaguida for both, so that should tell you something)

Between issue 1 and issue 6 this could have been a very nice story arc but its incredibly inconsistent in issues 2-5, not just because of the mixed artstyle but also in tone, writing, it's aimless and does not know what it wants to be. No action, no character moments for Bond either. Felt like a lecture at times, like Ales wanted to get stuff off his chest instead of focusing on writing a great Bond story.

Thank god "The Body" is over with. I enjoyed the first issue. The second a little bit (thinking the story was going to pick up). And then it just fizzled out. However, I'm glad #6's art style gave me a breath of fresh air.
I sincerely hope to see Kill Chain's sequel next year. I really want to see that story continue.

I'll report back to you on that, Thundy. Once it comes out, we'll see if it devalues (not in a degrading way, however) Bond like Young Bond does.

I'm intrigued by all the planes on those covers! (though also thinking "aren't you supposed to be in the Navy?")

I like Bob Q’s cover that has a Churchillian feel to it. It’s available in the CBR link.

I'm sure that if he returns in Bond 25, Felix Leiter could get a part 2 of the Dynamite Comics.

He eventually will. Because Jim Robinson said he already had an idea for a Leiter trilogy before even completing the treatment for the first installment.

Next year could be a big year for Felix Leiter in general. We could be getting him in Bond 25, his second part in his Dynamite trilogy, Live and Let Die graphic novel adaptation, and any other possible 007 Dynamite comics. I'm happy to see him get his fair share of the action.
