  • Well! Just finished Hammerhead #1 and I'm ready to book Diggle & Casalanguida back for a return engagement. Diggle seems to have a much better sense of pacing for a Bond comic read on an issue-by-issue basis than was the case for Ellis. Victoria Hunt may be the best "original to the comics" Bond girl I've ever seen! Great stuff, can't wait for the next issue.

Awesome @BeatlesSansEarMuffs and @Gettler ...I still haven't gotten Hammerhead #1 or even Ellis's Bond #10 but it'll be my double feature this weekend when I do.

@mcdonbb, reading Bond #10 first, then the other one. More fun that way. ;)

Oh yes, I could go for a Guinness or Shiner Bock right now.

What's your favourite Shiner? I'm waiting for the weather to cool in Austin and for Cheer to be served again!

Hammerhead read very quickly, but I enjoyed it a lot more on my first read than most of the Ellis issues. Looking forward to the next chapter!

I'm buying Hammerhead #1 and Bond #10 this weekend ...so like the last guy to read.

I like the original Shiner Bock lager and the Black Lager.

    No light or blonde...

The original is always a good standby. We have a barber shop chain called Birds that gives you a free original or seasonal with haircut.

Hope you enjoy the books when you get to them!

Haven't read comics in over a year, but this discussion made me want to check out both Vargr and Hammerhead. Went on buying Vargr on Comixology, and read through the whole thing in one reading. Not bad. I liked the plot, but couldn't get past how violent Bond was portrayed in this one. Almost didn't find him much better than the villains, really. The artwork was good, and the dialogue was better than most comics I've read in a long time.

Went on buying issue #1 of Hammerhead right after finishing Vargr. Hammerhead made a better first impression than Vargr. Where I felt Vargr didn't really get going until issue #2, Hammerhead has got off to a great start, with better pacing I feel. Really love the artwork in this one too! Bold, effective linework with a nice flow, which helps the reading experience.

How many issues have been released of Eidolon up to now?

@Torgeirtrap, Eidolon so far has released four issues and two more are on the way. They're the actual continuation of what VARGR has represented whereas Hammerhead is, sort of, a one-off.

Eidolon's next issue comes out sometime in early next month, and Hammerhead's second issue will be released two weeks later.

@ClarkDevlin Thank you, did not know that! Was under the impression that Hammerhead was a one-off, but had not read anything about it being so. Just by looking at the art direction of the covers, it's really easy to make the mistake of Vargr and Hammerhead being a part of the same series.

You're welcome, @Torgreirtrap. Yes, we used to think so, too. But, it appears the official continuation of the James Bond title will be picked up by Benjamin Percy after Warren Ellis hangs the gun.

Additionally, there is a Felix Leiter spin-off soon to come out, too!

@ClarkDevlin Oh! Looks like we're getting spoiled with Bond comics!

Indeed, @Torgreirtrap. I haven't seen a company treat the Bond license so conveniently and brilliantly before. Dynamite should have at least three decades of Bond.

Agreed. And welcome to the thread @Torgeirtrap. Yes, the violence is a tad off putting but everything else is so enjoyable.

Kinda like a fine Bond meal with a tad much pepper. :D. Some like pepper.

We just haven't in my opinion had Bond meals this good in awhile.

Thank you, @mcdonbb! I don't mind the violence, and can understand the use of blood. The only thing is that every fight seem to use it to enhance the drama of the visuals. A product of a different era of course, the Mclusky/Horak comic strips never had the need to overdo the violence, still keeping the tension throughout the stories.

After reading Vargr and Hammerhead, I couldn't help myself, and bought the three first issues of Eidolon as well. Only read the first one so far, but it's already off to a better start than Vargr. The pacing is a lot better in this one, compared to Vargr #1. Will enjoy reading the rest of the story!

The McLusky/Horak comic strips, well, are different animals compared to the comic books. But, I'd recommend you the comics released by Eclipse and Dark Horse. Some of them were very worthy of being a Bond treasure.

Noted! I've picked up a few Scandinavian publications over the years, as well as adaptations of For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy, but I have yet to come across the American publications from the 90's. Where is the best places to look for these? Ebay?

Do you want a digital version of them, mate?

The physical copies can still be found on Dark Horse's official site. Don't know about Permission To Die and Licence To Kill, though, as Eclipse went defunct.

Digital versions would be great! Ran out of place for comic books years ago, haha!
