    Thanks so much for that link. Very excited for this ...Will just imagine Fiennes and Harris and Q...kinda fits in the SF/SP with the new MI6 rules ...lensed by Denkins and scored by Desplat and I can go into Bond dreamland :P

    Is that really necessary? I mean, I don't mind a black M as long as it's not the specific Sir Miles Messervy or Admiral Hargreaves, or Gareth Mallory changing their ethnicity. But, making Moneypenny black again is crying for attention, or screaming "Look, we're showing you we're not racist". Why don't anyone have a new character created as M's personal secretary, instead?

    Indeed. While the P99 is not a good gun, it certainly is not a ladies gun who keep them in their hand bags. It's a bulky pistol enough to be classed open-carry firearm, let alone being unfit in a handbag. Looks like Ellis didn't do his research there properly.

    I have to confess that graphic novels have mostly gone under the radar, until now that is. I bought the original graphic novel V for Vengeance, which was way superior to the movie adaptation, and I also bought Batman: The Dark Knight Returns many years ago.

    And now we have what looks to be another exciting possibility in VARGR, and it's one I'm going to look out for when it comes out.

    @Darius: In case you haven't read any previous Bond comic, I deeply recommend both Permission To Die and Serpent's Tooth.

    When you read Serpent's Tooth remember it was published two years before the movie Jurassic Park was released.

    It's way OTT but done with so much panache one doesn't care.

    I'm just making a pit stop (it's the weekend between the SP premiere in the UK and here in Canada). I write for a pop culture website in its comics section and we received our review copy of VARGR a few days ago. No spoilers here of course, but I really liked it. I think Bond fans, especially those that live by Fleming, are in for a treat.

    Definitely, @mcdonbb. It's definitely the comics equivalent of Die Another Day, but Paul Gulacy's beautiful artwork doesn't let you be taken out of having fun for a moment, along with Doug Moench's brilliant characterization of Bond, who is utterly suave and incredibly masculine, the way I want my Bond to be. The thing is, on its wikipedia page, no one cared about the Bond comics list, but I had to leap over and summarize the plot in one article. In case anyone would like to read, here's the link:

    I live in the US. We have a black president....which torques a fair number of people off. Not that they're racists, or anything, but still...

    Look, I haven't read the book in question yet. I'll be happy to pick up the question again when I have... but so far all I can do is respond to your comments as they're written. And I REALLY don't think that anyone is "forcing" anything on this book's creators. Unless you think they're "forcing" something on you, in which case I'd suggest: Bond had a female M in the films and somehow the franchise survived. I think the franchise will survive just fine if Bond in the comic books has a black M.

    I can't really speak to what sort of retail establishments you have nearby...try Diamond Comics' Comic Shop Locator (which DOES have a way of finding stores outside the US!) at the following: http://www.comicshoplocator.com/Home/1/1/57/575. Whoever is closest to you should be happy to send one out to you if they're not within easy traveling. Good luck in your quest!

    @mcdonbb, I have to say, there isn't much action yet, apart from the pre-title sequence, but... By George, it's extremely exciting and masterful once you simply turn all the 22 pages of panels and delve deep into the storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Oh, and err... It appears the Aston Martin on the second issue's cover art, to my understanding, is just a nod to the film series, because I noticed Bond is driving some sort of a Bentley Continental GT in this one shot.

    I would like to see Bond drive a Bentley in the films at least once but sadly cinematic Bond and Aston Martin seemed to be joined at the hip.

    After all, Warren Ellis did say he was going to escort the reader into Fleming's Bond directly, didn't he? ;)

    Just bought & read it. Enjoyed it, very Fleming-esque. If I must quibble -- and I suppose I must -- on the "now that you're on the job, I hope we're in for plenty of gratuitous sex & violence" standard, this first issue had a decent supply of violence but not enough sex IMHO. That's the problem with reading an extended storyline like this in single issue installments: you can't get the full flavor of the meal when all you're served is little bite-sized pieces. I don't often buy comic book compilations but with this series I'll probably need to!
