The James Bond series, @Gustav_Graves? Or Casino Royale?

Dynamite will now have three James Bond (themed) series:

--> The James Bond Series, with new, original stories ("Vargr", "Eidolon", "Hammerhead", "Black Box")
--> The Felix Leiter Spin-Off Series, with new, original stories
--> The James Bond Series, as adaptations of Ian Fleming's original novels (starting with "Casino Royale")

And I mean the latter. I'm really excited about these :-).

Also, aren't the Dynamite series truly won-der-ful source material for future James Bond films??

....yes they are great source and a testament to what you can do with a modern Bond.

Neal Purvis & Robert Wade could really learn from these Dynamite people!

    Agreed.

Glad you're on board with us, @Gustav_Graves. Oh and one thing adding, aside from the Fleming novel adaptations, there will be a rookie James Bond series too, such as Agent 007: Year One and forth up until the events of Casino Royale.

Agent 007: Year One: You are making this up, right? Who says that there will be a rookie series?

There was news that Dynamite would be using a comics series to explore Bond's wartime experiences leading up to CR.

Ah OK, so it would be before Bond gets his 00 status. I'd consider renaming it to "Agent Bond: The war experience".

@zebrafish: No. According to Dynamite's senior editor Joseph Rybandt, Bond is a 00 in the wartime experiences. Not a regular agent. It's just the beginning of his career as a 00-agent.

I get it. And even if this is off-topic (but fitting here): Is there any indication in the literary canon about how Bond got his double-0 status? Did Fleming say that 00 means "2 kills", or was that invented for CR, the film?

There's a big reference to how he got his 00 status in the novel. From Chapter 9 : "The Game is Baccarat" :

"Bond frowned. "It's not difficult to get a 00 number if you're prepared to kill people", he said, "That's all the meaning it has. It's nothing to be particularly proud of. I've got the corpses of a japanese cipher expert in New York and a Norwegian double agent in Stockholm to thank for being a double 0"

@zebrafish, Fleming wrote that Bond got his 00 status by killing a Japanese cipher clerk in New York with a sniper rifle from about a quarter mile away, and a Norwegian double agent in Stockholm who I believe had murdered two of his colleagues.

It would be great to see the Dynamite comic begin with these two kills.

Yes. The Japanese cipher clerk was an easy kill, according to Bond, while the other one, the Norwegian double agent was hard to defeat, a knife fight if I remember correctly that almost went awry when Bond tried to assassinate the target in his sleep. The order was reversed in the 2006 film, of course, as the hard Kill (Fisher) came first and the easy one second (Dryden).

So many possibilities I hope Dynamite explores.

As a side note just read a preview of Hammerhead #5. You can just feel the tension emanating from the page.

    Haha!! :))

It's from the fourth issue of Hammerhead where The Fox is checking on Bond's equipment. I poorly edited the rest on my iPhone but I'll be putting up a better quality as soon as I get my new laptop. Ordered it and should be there in less than two weeks.

Oh and by the way... Felix Leiter Issue #2 was sensational. As was the art!

Loved Felix Leiter #2. It was great to see the Bond world open up and for supporting characters to team up. It was a real treat to learn more about Tiger's background. The plot is really coming together now and it's such a different enemy to anything Bond has ever come up against which was so cool.

@TR007, it's not entirely different from The Quasimodo Gambit villain-wise. Bond fought a similar enemy in that comic book, too.

Felix Leiter feels a bit like a buddy cop movie. I was sceptical at First when Tiger was announced but i think he brings the right balance to the story and I am hoping he gets his own miniseries in the future

@clarkdevlin I've never read that one. Must hunt it down. Thanks for the heads up!

I haven't read Felix Leiter #1 or #2 yet. Me bad. Really bad since features a fellow Texan.
Not a big deal but the authors seem to picking the same locations. I don't have a problem with that.

Black Box is looking interesting and nice chapter title. Wasn't The Deadly Game an alternate North American title for the novel Casino Royale?

I wonder when Diggles next Bond story is coming?

My guess is july when Felix is finished... Then it would run in parallel with Black Box for 3 issues (like Hammerhead/Eidolon)

I am looking forward to the CR adaptation and to possible other Fleming adaptations.

I wonder if Young Bond will ever return to comics. The only adapted story was Silverfin.

I haven't really ever read any of the Young Bond but just curious.
