Bond does not need to be an established movie star. Bond will make him one.

True, but they need a movie star's screen presence. It's like what the producers said about Craig - he was a character actor in the body of a movie star (or something along those lines).

What's key is the filmmakers do great stuff with the Bond character storywise and action-wise.

So I trust the producers to choose wisely as they've done in the past. The best will follow.

Can anyone say he doesn't have the bond look down?

Somebody mentioned Andrew Simpson? He played in Notes of a Scandal, the teenage lover/victim of the Cate Blanchett character. Nor sure how he developed as an actor, but he was good in that one.

Certainly next bond will be in his thirties...that rules out some mentioned on this forum....but one thing they also must have is a promising movie career...josh o Connor has that.

Agreed - Though late 20s still qualifies.

I think that it will be a big year for Jacob Elordi. He is playing the Monster in Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein. He doesn't want to be a stinker in that movie and he is playing Heathcliff. He also has a BBC series playing the lead. He's untested as a leading man, but this could be his year. I've got really into AI images as well

If you want someone more tested than the only other option is Harris Dickinson. I've walked past him on Broadway Market in Hackney a few times and he is so tall and handsome in real life. He has serious presence and is a fantastic actor - see Triangle of Sadness, Beach Rats and County Lines. He has a Timothee Chalamet quality.

    Also, love Jack O'Connell...............

O'Connell is being as amazing as ever in Rogue Heroes at the moment, not hard to picture him as Bond. Anyone obsessed with his height of all things should watch that.

Look gents, we can talk long or short, but this is Bond. Whichever way you may view it, this is the guy:

    What say you @Benny

You know something, now he has a *little* more age to him, I think Turner would be better now, then back when I first heard about him (ATTWN). There's still the matter of age, but him or Cavill, I would be happy seeing them cast Bond. A lot of the other names I see being brought up, look like boys, rather than man.

Good man and still after all these years you're still right on the money. I can only fully agree. Benny's idea of a 3 film contract starring Turner would be a dream come true, for any aficionado that is.

Despite being in his 40’s Turner is still youthful enough to play Commander James Bond in a far more believable way than some of those suggested.
With a trilogy of films, he could round out his stint without aging out.
Whilst Josh O’Connor is undoubtedly a fine actor, would he convince as a naval commander recruited to the British Secret Service?

I could see O' Connor as the prematurely grizzled, slightly weary skipper of a small fishing boat who steered a raiding party of commandos across the Channel in a Second World War film. As James Bond? Not at all, tbh. As always, though, I'm reminded that I couldn't see anything of Bond in Craig in 2005 either and look how that turned out!

Well, the thing about Bond is that he isn’t a former naval commander to most audiences, and the films will rarely make reference to this (and even if they do it won’t be a cornerstone detail of the cinematic character that has to be depicted completely realistically). He’s simply James Bond.

Strictly speaking I don’t think many of the actors could be former commanders. So if they want to go more early 30s for the next Bond and have the character be a bit more youthful, (and of course if it works and is right for the story) I’d say go for it. Alternatively I wouldn’t want them to cast a dull actor just because he’s more plausible as a commander or whatever.

Even better if he could squeeze in one last, a 4th film, one more for the road.

I know this sounds a bit harsh but it's James Bond we're talking about. Josh O’Connor has extremely sticking out ears.

If cast he's going to have short hair so he's ears will be on show all the time. He should get his ears pinned back. I don't mean to be unkind but he's got Dumbo ears. It's realllllllllllly noticeable.

I don't want to be unkind to the chap but his ears! 🤭 It's full on. ;)) is this too superficial? Am I being unreasonable?

Craig has pretty big sticky out ears as well to be fair.

I never really noticed! ;)) Yeah, I suppose they're on the larger size.

I read a GQ magazine updated list of candidates dated January 6th 2025 and it includes a nonsensical profile of Tom Hardy.

    Tom Hardy
Why: He’s box office, pure and simple. How many actors could pull off a one-man film (as Hardy did in Locke) and then play both leading roles in another (AKA Legend)? He plays a suave, vaguely Bondish figure in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, too.

    Here's the first nonsensical bit...
On 20 September 2020, it was reported that Hardy had already been cast in the role after supposedly auditioning back in June, and that he was due to be unveiled as Bond in November on the release of No Time To Die. Although that didn't transpire, the news prompted bookies to slash odds, including Ladbrokes shortening theirs from a fairly distant 8/1 to 4/5 – practically a shoo-in. He's drifted since, but is a permanent fixture in the most-likely top tier.

Eh? What? Hardy was cast and going to be announced on the release of NTTD?

    giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952cvry063rhvl2cyu7nqscq663tknjz9gsjk6hzetd&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g

    Here's the second nonsensical bit...
For our money, Hardy physically resembles Fleming’s Bond and would bring a dangerous edge and devastating talent. He fuelled the debate by stating: “There’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting... that if you talk about it [Bond rumours], you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one!”
Why not: Bond might be too mainstream for the independent-minded Hardy. He likes creative freedom, as roles in Locke, The Drop and London Road attest. His blockbuster works with Nolan were both one-off appearances, not recurring franchise roles. Plus, Hardy might have found his ideal franchise in the inventive, critically acclaimed Mad Max. Bond may want Hardy more than Hardy wants Bond.

Not franchise recurring roles? You mean like Venom 1, 2 and 3? No, not recurring franchise roles at all.

    ;))

It's possible GQ never updated the Hardy profile. It reads like it was written before Venom 2 and 3 were made. I think GQ couldn't be bothered to update it to 2025.
