It's entirely possible that EON just aren't interested in prestige, and they want a meticulously controlled film to launch the next era - perhaps they learned a lesson from the Boyle fiasco, who knows?

It has to be said that Aidan Turner is phenomenal bang for the buck right now. He guy is probably reaching his peak now in terms of Bondian looks, hes plenty suave and affable, has those essential Bond traits and doesn't exactly command top whack for a role. Very reminiscent of a early 90's Peirce.

Richard Armitage was the man in The Hobbit but he's too old now.

In any case I don't think we need another Dalton, a fan favorite but with little appeal to the masses.

Yes, but Aidan Turner was in that too, as one of the dwarfs (the one that that elf chick fell in love with or whatever).

    Nice poster @Thunderball

For me Turner would be somewhere between Dalton and Brosnan, dark and intense but with an affable, charming side.

I think it’s tempting to overanalyse what kind of directors or actors they’ll go for, but ultimately I think it just comes down to who they think best and who they can get. I don’t think EON are going to hire, say, Christopher Nolan just for the prestige of having his name (he’s very likely not a good fit for Bond). But at the same time if they think someone’s a good fit, understands the direction they want and are available, and are also critically acclaimed, then why wouldn’t they hire them? It’s happened before.

That said I don’t think Aidan Turner specifically is a prestige name. I don’t think that matters.

Sign him up, give him a Bond 15 or Bond 17 type of film, then repeat in 2-3 years.
    Simples

Bond fans would / should know some of the classics, surely 😉

Bond 2, Bond 3, Bond 6, Bond 8, Bond 10, Bond 13 (unlucky for some, but not EON) Bond 15, Bond 17, Bond 21 and Bond 23 would rank highly for many.
Hopefully Bond 26 can continue in the classic Bond path, with a seasoned actor like Aidan Turner doing a trilogy and done!
    No fourth film. Just three.

Bond 1 through Bond 25. You are aware that these films have names, yes? 🤨

Not to rake up old tedious arguments or to get too political, but Bezos' company taking control of Bond means that, with his sucking up to Trump and that person's love of macho culture war rubbish, we can be pretty certain the new Bond will be a white guy, so any future debates about Bond's race seem pretty moot.

Not to get too political but you did exactly that. Lol.

I'm not making any comment on it whether it's good or bad and I don't want an argument about politics, it just seems likely to be a fact given the situation and that we have a company in control owned by a person who has made their political alignment clear.
I'm not even saying whether I think it's a good thing or a bad thing, but I would say it is a thing.

I’m not going to elaborate, but there is a huge, factual inaccurate, ill informed statement in your post; I’ll just leave it at that and move on.

Unless you say what you mean there's no reason to take that seriously.

Okay, well ignoring that odd interlude, Bond will most likely remain a white guy due to this news.

That really is a very Bondian, cool pick. Let’s just hope the new boss is as tuned to what Bond should be as the old boss (the who song comes to mind).

HEY AMAZON, Here’s a fan fav. Just pick him, will ya? Make many happy.

I came here, saw plenty new posts and thought something is stirring. But no, we are discussing Aidan Turner again. I'll say he has the Lewis Collins look right now and will never be Bond, just like Lewis Collins.

I do think Collins would have been pretty good though, which is the difference! :)

My favourite Bonds that never were are James Purefoy and Dominic West. Not sure if they'd even be good, mind you, but I would have been curious to see them in the role.

We may have to consider with this major shift behind the scenes an American may take the title role.

Austin Butler has voiced ambitions to be the first American actor to play Bond in the past.

Well, gents, I am as baffled by the news regarding Amazon/EoN as you are, however we might be in luck. Our pick Aidan Turner has close ties @Amazon studios, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully they won't make it woke though, thankfully woke is on its return a while now. Meet James Bond, if there is a God:

With Amazon in control Bond might not even get portrayed by a British or Australian actor.
