If you look at Cavill in TMFU, MI : Fallout and Argyle, he’s essentially playing the same character.
If cast as Bond I don’t think there would be any more depth than we’ve seen before from him.
It would be a safe choice, but I feel the wrong choice.
He’s just not a very good actor.
I agree on all accounts. His name only came up again after Bezos question, or so I’m told.

Theo is too greek, Bond is an Anglo-Saxon alpha male. It's not complicated, and that's the character, like it or not.

    Too greek? 😁

Well can't he pretend to be British?

Maybe George Lazenby was too Australian but he pretended to be British. 😉

Cavill is a depreciating asset in the business due to some huge box office flops. That negative fact doesn't apply to Aidan Turner or some of the other names mentioned. Cavill and Elba have had many big flops so I'll be amazed if Amazon go with Cavill and Elba is arguably too old ish. Apparently Cavill's Highlander reboot goes into production this spring so maybe people in the industry still consider him potential box office. Who knows! Maybe Highlander will be a streaming release and bypass theatrical release.

Cavill has made three spy films. All huge box office duds - Man From Uncle, Argylle, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Amazon are impossibly rich but I don't get why they would want to cast a guy with such a poor box office record (so too Elba). Maybe find a new chap with no negative box office baggage.

It's impossible to know why some actors get high profile work even with many box office duds on their cv and some don't. It's beyond explanation! Good agent, perhaps! 🤭 Cavill getting Superman and Bond? Mamma Mia!!

Aidan Turner isn't anywhere near as wooden as Cavill is. Turner is just more varied. His Bond could be as intense as Dalton or as charming as Moore, and most notes in between. Cavill? Nah.
The age thing between them is largely moot as Cavill us like a month older than Turner.

Is Cavill aging quickly-ish? He looks noticeably older in that watch video.

Richard Madden? He's worked with Amazon on Citadel. He's 38. I can imagine Amazon picking an actor they've worked with before. Less risky than an unknown.

Turner is a really good thespian, IMO. Plenty of his work can prove it. Good stage actor, too. Respected amongst peers.

Some recent-ish photos of Cavill and A. Turner (mind the beard):

I'm going with Amazon picking a fresh name. But just a wild guess. Amazon may have no idea who to cast. "We have no idea. We just wanted the franchise. We never thought about who to cast."

    🤭

Along with Aidan Turner, still my top pick. Suter just needs a little bit more exposure to be in the frame

That's not necessarily a bad thing.

It depends on whether they want to do a deep exploration of the character, or use him more as a platonic cypher, a smaller peice of a larger pie.

He has the Inspector Lynley coming out later this year; I'm hoping that it's his "Remington Steele"

Are you saying James Bond could be a smaller piece of a larger pie?

I think, with the Amazon acquisition of the creative rights, Jacob Elordi's chances just went way up. They well might be looking for a clearly rising international star, not an unknown.

I'm not big on social media but check out how many followers or likes an actor has...that will eventually lead Amazon and its algorithms to the next Bond actor.

They are going to want someone who already is demonstrating international appeal and not someone who is only just breaking in the UK or US. There was a chance of that with Broccoli and Wilson with their deep ties to the British film industry, but that is not the case with Amazon.

Yes, Elordi, or someone with a similar number of followers.

Barbara Broccoli's guiding hand on the franchise is only going to be truly appreciated in retrospect.

Forget about your Leo Suters or Jack Lowdens now...they are not well known enough to pass muster as against Amazon's algorithms.

Who knew AI would be what could take down Bond?
