    Even if Cavill was the only possible candidate, I'd rather they bring back Brosnan or Dalton as Bond instead of him. Heck, I'd even advocate an 8th film for Sir Rog if Cavill is the only alternative.

    I'd rather them bring back Brosnan, Dalton or Moore over most of the candidates.

    Brosnan would still be miles better than most of the candidates. So would Dalton by the way.

    making a bad superman don't Cavil a bad choice for Bond.

    Superman as famous as it is its not a character as cool and sexy as James Bond, actually id say its quite Boring brining superman Back has been a fiasco since Paul Rudd because the character doesn't honestly have legs

    So the actor is not the problem is the character itself. The only true great Hero warner has is Batman and they should stick to it


    Anyway going back to Cavil i think he did a very fine job in the man from UNCLE sure not oscar worthy but convinced me very much he could do Bond.

    Cavill has the look but like many others have said, He's very wooden. I thought he looked cool in UNCLE but his forced Robert Vaughn esque impression was so stiff and unnatural it was Cringworthy. But then again I haven't seen him do a performance with his real accent so that might be part of it.

    The trouble with Cavill (imho) is it's all surface level. There doesn't appear to be any gravitas or depth to his acting repertoire. He comes across as a distinct lightweight to me (and I was an advocate for him over Craig in 2005 chiefly based on looks, I'm ashamed to confess).

    If EON wants to make more surface level light hearted Bond films going forward, then he may (and I really mean 'may') be able to pull it off, but if any sort of dramatic heft is required, I'd stay away from Cavill personally.

    Can't see Cavill as Bond? He is Superman, and also Solo in Uncle! I would put Hiddlestone ahead of him.

    I know I'm late on this whole Aiden Turner business so can someone please recap what has been said about him? :D

    His looks scream Bond to me but I've never seen him act.

    Irish actor, played one of the dwarves in The Hobbit trilogy and is the one who hooks up with the elf. So he's got that going for him...

    On a more serious note: check him out in "And then there were none", as it shows a more brutal side of him, while he is also wearing a dinner jacket.

    Meanwhile it seems he is still laying low about Bond. Wise choice IMHO, since Daniel Craig hasn't officially resigned.

    It's a similar kind of chasm in acting ability.

    No Bale is the better actor by far.

    Cavill is not my choice or favourite to be the next Bond. But in light of the idiotic press statements suggesting totally pointless, unsuitable and pc for pc's sake candidates (Elba etc), he makes more sense.

    in a little over 2 weeks Me and My wife will see the first episode of the 6 part mini series Night Manager. Honestly i am excited and i will give a proper sort of discussion/review of each episode and why Hiddleston (and the Director) is either right for bond or not I am trying to go in with as open a mind as possible. Hiddleston has the charisma but I have only seen him play villains that well I hate (that is the point of villain) so I am curious if he can play a character I can route for.

    Pine? I think we saw what he could bring to the table in Jack Ryan. I kept thinking "Hollywood Poor Man's Craig" when watching it.

    He's good as a blue collar working class type (The Finest Hours, Unstoppable) but this is certainly no Bond imho.

    Chris Pine can still be Bond. Captain Kirk can be sent back to the past by the temporal police to impersonate James Bond to save the world from megalomaniac Trump.

    Which describes Bond's background, actually. I never would have connected Pine to Bond until seeing this ad the other day.

    Surely Bond is more than an Armani ad.

    Craig himself, despite his considerable talents, has trouble bringing the refinement that Bond should present (imho), and I'm sure Pine will find it even more difficult.

    I'm looking for a chap who can naturally convey that sense of class along with a disdainful chip which Vesper talked about in CR.

    Bond's class has never been clarified. He begins as an upper middle sort, I think? Fleming then retcons it to 'scotch peasant' (wonder why?). Craig's Bond is all over the shop. Casino Royale tries to imply he is some sort of working class upstart made good? Only for Skyfall to then revert to lord of the manor stuff with the big family home and groundsman in waiting etc.

    I still think Gosling would be an unconventional but great pick for Bond. He has charisma, screen presence, girls go crazy over him but he's still "macho", was born in a British commonwealth country, can actually act. I guess since he doesn't have the accent, that would offput most people.

    Gosling was very good in Fracture opposite Bond alum Rosamund Pike & potential Bond villain Anthony Hopkins. I love that film. He's a pretty cool chap.

    For some people wearing a smoking is all it takes to be Bond. Or at least a suit.

    A few years ago I thought Cavill would grow into a capable actor that would fit the bill. I think now he relied too much on his good looks. Without technique a gift is only an annoying habit as Georges Brassens said. Maybe he had a gift.

    Sean Bean should have been Bond in '95, for the present I'd like Craig to do one more, if not then Huddlestone would be my choice, yet to be convinced by Turner, but only seen him in Poldark, And Then There Were None and the Hobbit films.
