He's not scrawny at all. The Night Manager proves that.
Yep.
This very much. Although, I quite liked the supporting cast of QoS, they cast solid actors, convincing in their respective roles without any stunt casting or Oscar bait talent.
I also agree that the dialogue and script need major improvements and the camera needs to be more steady and for the love of all that is holy, lets get some more wide shots.
But I’d like to draw your attention to one detail: as you can see from the recent activity of Hiddlseton he climbs out of his skin to get this role by photographing “accidentally” with one of the most odious figure of show-business, photographing in his pants only (that magazine is referring to him as “Get to Know Tom Hiddleston, Taylor Swift’s New Boyfriend” – that is a potential Bond is known for his relation with famous singer, what the honor for Bond!!!).
And compare his behavior to Turner’s: during all these months Aidan is calm, relaxed and enjoys his glorious and non-bondian beard, not needing to prove anything – not his heterosexuality, nor his brutality or good looks.
By the way, here are some words about Turner’s appearance: some of you insist that he’s not handsome or attractive. Well tastes differ and there are as many opinions as people, but maybe you’d be interested to know that Aidan is Glamour magazine’s 2016 Sexiest Man winner (http://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/celebrity/celebrity-galleries/2015/03/aidan-turner-poldark-hot-pics). As you see, many people find him attractive! That’s why when you criticize Turner’s appearance, screen presence, acting skills (and as I noticed, mostly the people who haven’t watched anything with him are doing so, judging from several pictures only!), etc. add “IMHO” at the end, please, because much more people think otherwise.
And finally I want to repeat that I don’t care about who’ll be the next Bond. Remember that it’s only rumors that Turner was screen-tasted and nothing is known for real, maybe he was not considered at all. But if Aidan Turner is Bond I’ll watch those films as well as any other films with his participation. And if not, this will not make him less good actor. I can compare this situation with Radiohead’s Bond song (that guy with Radiohead’s LP9 picture will understand what I’m trying to say): the fact that they took Sam Smith’s song and didn’t take Radiohead’s doesn’t mean that Sam Smith’s song isn’t one-day shit or Radiohead isn’t one of the greatest bands of all times!
P.S. If someone wants to know Turner’s works better, I’d recommend BBC series “Being Human”, “Desperate Romantics” and “Poldark”, where he shows wide range of acting chops and screen presence, which you all are so desperately seeking.
Thank you for attention.
P.P.S. Here are some recent photos of beardy Turner, enjoy
;;)
kidding, I know that, somewhere under that popular hairgrowth, is a real man somewhere....
Neither Turner nor Hiddleston look all that war weary.
I'll see the film no matter who they cast. I'd have to see Bell in IMAX so he'd actually be visible if EoN makes that mistake but otherwise Bond as usual.
I feel there are plenty of rather obvious candidates getting attention at the moment. However, the likelihood is that someone more obscure and unusual will get the role. Remember back in 2005, the supposed likely candidates were shunned (I'm talking about the Hugh Jackman's, Clive Owen's of the world, etc), instead we got the unusual choice of Daniel Craig. DC was more known for playing villainous characters full of rage, it was only really Layer Cake which displayed his leading man credentials.
I feel Murphy has a similar feel. He doesn't feel obvious or even that comfortable a choice. But he has such an intensity to him as a performer. He's frightening and has piercing stare which is both haunting and sexy. Beyond that, he's a terrific actor who could easily play the more insouciant and suave aspects of the Bond character. If the series wished to continue it's current trend (dark and gritty), I feel Murphy could be an interesting counterpoint and evolution of Craig's Bond.
If people are in doubt of his leading man qualities, it must be remembered that he was a serious contender for Batman before Bale got cast. Finally, anyone who has seen Peaky Blinders will know that Murphy looks terrific in a suit and is so bloody cool it's off the charts.
I agree with everything you say and I watch Peaky Blinders. Cillian is a talented and versatile actor, who can play suave. But is he handsome enough?
Without missing out on it, see him in Red Eye. That was the performance he pulled off that brought him on my radar ten years ago or so... He's a brilliant actor.
