Im just thinking that to keep Bond on a more regular timescale,DC will be chopped ,as he had a final clean break in SP and EON will go for someone who can commit to every 2 years...im not sure Bond can wait until 2019/2020....not with all the 'pretenders' around,eg MI and Bourne...

I'm hoping we'll be getting something soon. Like a word within six months. So far, all we know is that Gary Barber told us Bond 25 is in development, contrary to Craig's claim that "everybody is a little tired."

I think there will probably be only one more MI film, and maybe a Bourne film. They will have to reboot those franchises soon, with both stars getting on a bit (although I enjoy both series). I seriously doubt we'll see another Bond before 2019 now. EON would have to sputter into life in the next few months, and then they would have to avoid any substantial setback until the film is finished in autumn 2018.

Mission: Impossible shouldn't be rebooted. As soon as Cruise retires, Ethan Hunt should also retire and another character should take over. I wouldn't be complaining if Jeremy Renner's William Brandt takes up on the role of an IMF team leader. A continuity is always appreciated as the films continue the chronology of the television series.

Exactly. The Bourne movies should be rebooted and stay true the novels. Enough of this anti-CIA stories. Bourne was never an anti-CIA person.

The first 3 are entertaining. But they lack the suave sophistication of bond.

Bourne was never intended to be like Bond. The approach is quite different. More gritty. More real.

If anything, it is the MI series (the last two, namely GP & RN) that has come closest to capturing the pre-Craig Bond fantasy, glamour and style. At least from my perspective, they have done an excellent job of it. The last film is easily my favourite in this genre since CR.

Too much Ethan goes rogue though. The only movie he doesn't go rogue is MI2.

Ghost Protocol wasn't exactly rogue. It was more complicated, shadowy operation.

Yes add me to the bored with Bourne list. Except maybe for the first one. It was ok but I don't want to own it ..or watch it.

I'm a big Bourne fan, but think they maxed out with Supremacy, which truly was a worthy sequel to Identity and as much of a game changer as the first one. Since then, they've just been making the same film over and over again, which is a shame. There are many directions in which they can take the series if they are serious about it.

Taking it back to actors, Tom Ellis has the look but I've never seen him in anything.

Debatable. Personally I would only rank Casino Royale as ahead. Rogue Nation is an incredibly entertaining, well made film that left SPECTRE in its shadow.

Well said. I only saw the first three and although I thought they were entertaining, they tend to run together for me.

but @bondjames, the MI films, especially the last two, have never made Bond box office. That's saying something, no? That yes, it's silly and fun, but Bond films, even with the faults of the last two, have an extra layer of "something more, something better".

Bond doesn't need to go back to the Rog years (they were brilliant because of Rog). Bond needs to follow a more Fleming'esque path that has so delightfully been executed in most of the films since CR. No change is necessary, just more development. Babs has taken the MI franchise on, and the Bourne, and TMFU and she's beaten them at the box office.

The new era will never be able to replicate the golden age of the 60s, but it does come close in this claustrophobic market we have now. Bond, and the actor who has played him, has never been in better hands SINCE the 60s.

@peter, it's true that Bond far surpasses MI at the box office, particularly globally. However, I think that's to be expected. If it wasn't so, I'd be quite surprised. Bond has a 50+ year history, 24 films, and the fan base that has been built up over multiple generations. MI only has 5 films, and there have been longer average gaps between the films.

I think the last two MI films have been spectacular. In combination, I much preferred GP/RN to SF/SP, no matter what the box office results were. RN retained far more of the GP audience from four years prior than SP did of the SF audience (only from 3 years prior), and that's saying something.

I enjoyed SF immensely though, and I really appreciated that they didn't try to 'out action' the previous year's MI-GP, but rather went in a different, darker direction. That was the right way to play it with Mendes at the helm, as it worked to his strengths.

I agree that one shouldn't try to replicate the Moore era. They tried that in the 90's and failed (at least in my view). Sir Roger is unique & inimitable and EON should know that by now. That doesn't mean that they can't go for a slightly lighter touch next time around (as Cruise has successfully done with the last two MI entries). Or they can go for a more suspense oriented entry if they want. Both will work.

I just hope they lay off the 'Bond back story' going forward. One can make a darker, more thriller-like entry without delving into the personal demons of the protagonist, and that's what I'd prefer. I'm sick of the 'peeling back the layers' stuff to be honest. What was novel in CR has become quite tiresome now, at least for this viewer.

This brings up a well worn debate. I think the last three MI films are, for the most part, superior to the last three Bond films. But I do agree that Bond is the more iconic character and franchise.
The last time I watched RN I did a little experiment; In my minds eye I replaced Hunt with Bond. I pictured Craig in place of Cruise. While some adjustments would have to made, the results were exactly what I want in a modern Bond. The opera scene in particular was incredible viewed this way.

I disagree. I'd go as far as to say Rogue nation is better than every Craig outing apart from CR.
