It suggests some of us want a bit more stylish refinement from the Bond actor, but with a killer edge as required and when necessary. By process of elimination, this excludes Hardy.

Turner, Fassbender, Hiddleston, Hemsworth and Cavill can all work for me but I'm open to other suggestions. I can't really comment on Madden until I see the Bodyguard, but I think he's probably not tall enough for my liking (shorter than Hawes from what I can see and that's not a good thing). I personally don't like Norton.

I think Fassbender's too old at this point (if you assume Bond 26 in 2022, he'd be 45 by then). Willing to work with the others, with a preference for Hiddleston and Cavill.

I'm looking forward to the show. 5ft 10 (Madden's height) potentially excludes some taller actresses (like Debicki) and even actors as villains, which is something I'd like them to avoid.

I find it strange that some don't see this man as James Bond.

Besides, the guy can act. I've only seen him in And then there were none, and Poldark. But I do think he can act.

The thing with Debicki though; she being so tall would make her a really exciting henchwoman. Think Xenia Onatopp with even longer legs!

Definitely. I think she'd be perfect for a Bond film in any capacity but a henchwoman would be a nice twist. She's an ethereal beauty.

She really is! Already played a villain in UNCLE of course, so we know she can play that type of roles.

That scene where she poisons Napoleon is gold. Typical Bond...well, old school Bond. The one we miss.

I've only seen And Then There Were None. Poldark isn't my type of show really. He was really good in the Christie adaptation. I could definitely see Bond in his portrayal of Philip Lombard. There was a cheeky playfulness to his character, but also a dark edge underneath.

Agree! UNCLE provided us with some of the fun that's missing with Bond today, IMO.

That role was a good audition piece, I feel – and it wasn't that bad a performance by Turner either. Won't put him on top of my list, but should he get cast, I won't be negative towards it.

They're about the same height, no? It was probably high-heeled shoes that made the difference perhaps?

I'm indifferent regarding Hardy, but I just imagined him as Bond, alongside a high-heeled shoes wearing Elizabeth Debicki! I think any cinematographer would struggle to make him look tall enough in a scene with her!

pierce has really grown into his looks. a great face.

+1-- never my favourite (much to my chagrin, he's my last-- and I take no pleasure in that fact). He looks weathered, and wonderful and wise... my alliteration for the next decade.

Hardy is too old to ever be cast as Bond. It's like the discussion about Elba. Academic only.

Might as well be discussing whether Jason Isaacs would make a good Bond. I'd have preferred him over Brosnan, that's for sure.

Jason Isaacs would have been a great Bond in his prime.

Could Bond ever be Jewish though - would the Fleming purists approve?

It's not exactly written in his face. Unless Bond goes full frontal nudity, Bond won't be Jewish if a Jew plays him. That's also why I've got no problem with a homosexual actor playing Bond.

Just putting this out there but it's not just Jewish men that are circumcised.

Yeah but the character of bond isn’t circumsized

I have to confess, the only thing I have seen him in is a small role in the Hobbit films, so I can't speak for his acting chops.

You remember his role in The Hobbit?

Yes, just about. Not the most memorable trilogy I must admit, far inferior to LOTR.

I am wondering if Henry Cavill's confirmed involvement as the titular character in The Witcher series on Netflix may preclude him from consideration after Craig leaves.

Unlikely since it's a miniseries with a limited run.

@Murdock according to reports Netflix intend to make several seasons with a 60 million dollar budget per season, so I am not sure about it being a limited run.

@bondjames It is a solid series so far, with an absolutely killer opening scene in the first episode. There are some narrative inconsistencies, but they may actually be plot points they return to at a later date.

Madden actually does have reasonable 'Bond chops' in this, but as you said, he is rather diminutive. That presents a major problem.

Indeed. For me, the actor who gets the role should be three measures of presence, one of straightforward gentlemanliness, half a measure of cruelty. Add a large thin slice of lemon peel, and you got the next Bond!
    Very nice Definition :-)!

I thought Cavill did a decent job in Fallout. But I don't want him as Bond - never did.

Get that man the job, or he'll be as wasted as Clive Owen was back in the day. Just look at that angry face. Just don't forget to give him a shave and a haircut.
