Obviously @suzannestone is using Puffy to express and illustrate an ardent refusal to accept Rupert Friend as Bond. No one's considering Puff for the role.

No one is considering Friend either, friend.

@dominicgreen brought him up as a suitable candidate.

What about Kayne West? :)) I would like Tom Hiddleston - at least we know he has read some of Bond novels.

I got a weird unproven theory. I think the more an actor mentions how he'd love to play James Bond the less chance he's got. Based on my theory we can conclude

    Henry Cavill
    Idris Elba

    and now

    Jason Statham

have no chance of becoming James Bond.

    ;))

Jason Statham being James Bond? Jesus Christ.

Oxbridge really has lowered their standards.

Regarding Statham, while it's true baldness never stopped an actor from being Bond before, he's VERY one-note. I've never heard him say a single line in a movie that wasn't in that gravely monotone voice of his.
Plus if people say Craig is thuggish... then good god wait till they see Statham as Bond!

Simple way to explain why they won't be Bond:

Jason Statham is Bruce Willis with a British accent, but with less acting skills.
Idris Elba is a Black Bruce Willis with a British accent.
Henry Cavill is Sam Worthington with... yes, you get it.

And all are too famour now. Both Statham and Elba are too old. Elba is too arrogant/prima donna.

I have a feeling It will be one of the stars from The Hobbit. Aidan Turner or Richard Armitage

Aidan Turner has the looks and that dark, cruel edge needed to play Bond. Be very, very surprised if he is not in the mix somewhere. He's the right age too at 32.

What about the sheriff from the walking dead? I haven't actually seen him in anything, but is he a good actor?

Armitage is way too old now to succeed to Craig. And way too average, I may add. Turner, I doubt it.

Agree with all that. Act like a real spy and keep quiet.

Cavill was 90% not going to be Bond when he signed up to play Superman. After signing on to The Man from UNCLE, he is 100% not going to be Bond. EON are not going to take sloppy seconds from a competing spy series. Uh, except Lea Seydoux, ahem.

Idris Elba, oh jeez. Let's move on already. If getting the role of James Bond was like seducing a woman, Elba would have had a restraining order filed against him at this point.

Statham - LOL come on, all of this is just stemming from a blatant Bond ripoff role he's currently in. He plays a spy who wears a white tux and is seen in a casino. So DUUUHHHH the media brings up the idea of him playing Bond for a lazy headline and pull-quote.

Yeah Bond is like actor fight club, you talk about Bond you break the rules and you don't get considered. I reckon it will be 6 years before they are ready to reveal the next Bond due to that amount of time most mentioned will fizzle in the abyss, do roles which are too close to Bond or become to high profile. Our next Bond is probably out there as a supporting actor right now still awaiting that role which brings him to the forefront.

The difference with Lea Seydoux is that she was already Bond girl material. Far more than a MI girl if there is such a thing.

Plus she was barely in Ghost Protocol. She had a glorified cameo. She'll be way better utilized in SPECTRE.

I don't know about that. I think Emmanuelle Béart could have made an excellent Bond girl in her prime.

What I meant is that Seydoux belongs more to a Bond movie than a MI one. Because theres no MI girl standards. That's why I think there are many elements of the MI movie franchise that are basically a poor man's James Bond. They are also Cruise vehicles now.

@Thunderfinger Eon briefly considered him for casting in 2005. According to what I read he even gave an "impressive reading". So that would make him even more likely, because he was on their radar then, I don't see why not now.

Andrew Lincoln. Yes, good actor, good looking, British, just tall enough.

Certainly a realistic and educated suggestion rather than the laughable Elba or Stratham suggestions.

Haha, I always thought this guy (Lincoln) was Johnny Lee Miller :D
I honestly thought they were the same bloke... until just now when checked IMDB.

Yes, he looks right and can act, but too old to take over in 2020, surely...

Andrew Lincoln would be 47 in 2020 when they would likely be looking for a new Bond, one who possibly could have been back in 2006 if it was not for the superb DC.

I don't know anything about Lincoln, but agree that he looks very Bondian. Certainly more appropriate than some of the other suggestions here, which have been somewhat laughable imho.

Andrew Lincoln*? Nice bloke (I've met him at a school ceremony as his brother used to teach me RE), but I can't really see him as Bond.

*His real name is Andrew Clutterbuck.

Andrew Lincoln will be too old but he's definitely one for the 'could have/should have been' list imo. Fantastic actor with the right looks who can be badass and charming in equal measure. Would've made a great Bond.

Weird how his brother is a teacher, since his big break really came from playing one in Teachers on channel 4 years and years ago. Funny that :)

I like Lincoln. He has the right look and has the acting chops. The guy is pretty intense as Rick on TwD a d would have easily been an amazing Bond but yeah, he'd be too old by the time Craig is done.
He's too old to succeed Craig.

No, but do the math Casino Royale 2006, QOS 2008, Skfall 2012, Spectre 2015

An average of 2-3 years from one movie to the next. I would expect poduction on Bond 25 (Porbably Dan's last) to commence End of 2016 and in cinema's for 2017.

So probably be end of 2019 before filming Bond 26 and 2020 before it hits cinemas.

If anything 2020 may be a bit optimistic. Like you say Sir Hil one more for Craig and then they would be expected to probably take a slightly longer than normal break before launching Bond number 7.
2020 may be the year they announce the new actor, rather than the year the new film comes out.

Having said that though, I hope you are right.

I personally think Jamie Bell a few years from now will be a strong contender, he has been quite clever with his project choices and he's done everything from comedy/drama/musical/Period/Independant. He has worked with Dan spoke highly of him when working with him on Defiance and TinTin so I am pretty sure he will be getting the inside backing. He going to be the right age, acting credentials and British.
