I'd like to think that would be the best possible scenario, but my cynicism causes me to believe another producer would actually cast a franchise star like Robert Downey Jr as Bond. Or they'd cave in to the negative press that describe Bond as an outdated 1960's joke and produce a spoof Bond film with Seth Rogen as Bond. Looks like I'm making a joke as I read over my own comment there , but we did get that Green Hornet spoof that starred Rogen awhile back.
Just fact checking:
One Hoagy Carmichael
Oil painitng
According to Fleming:
Name: Bond, James. Height: 183 cm, weight: 76 kg; slim build; eyes: blue; hair: black; scar down right cheek & on left shoulder; all-round athlete; expert pistol shot, boxer, knife-thrower; does not use disguises. Languages: French and German. Smokes heavily (NB: special cigarettes with three gold bands); vices: drink, but not to excess, and women.
The guy on the right? Carmichael altered to look closer to the cinematic James Bond:
Seems a cross between Carmichael and Gregory Peck? Perhaps Timothy Dalton is the Bond actor that looks the closest to the image on the right although they don't look that similar.
It changes from Dalton, to Connery to Moore. Depending on my mood.
When I watch the films, each of the actors IS James Bond at various times.
I think Bond is more than any of the actors who have portrayed him. They've each brought something to the role, and have owned it.
Even with Fleming's description of James Bond, there is a certain element of ambiguity to the part. Personally I think Bond is whoever you want him to be. However the majority need to go along with you. Within reason. If that makes sense. ;)
I'm really rooting for Jack O Connell. He's young enough to really revitalise things after Craig but also has real presence, charisma and a sense of danger to him that I think a lot of the other younger choices lack. I also think he's the sort of actor Barbara would want and I read an interview with him where he quietly mentioned that Bond is the only big franchise he'd consider doing, so we don't have to worry about Marvel or anyone snapping him up in the mean time. I think he'd be a really exciting choice and he's a very possible one.
No I don't. You however ignore the fact that Moore intentionally steered away from looking too much like Connery. To my mind Connery's en Craigs'imersonations aren't that far off from eachother. It looks further because of the Gentleman Moore version, and the more classic version portrayed by Timothy. Brosnan again had a childrens'friendly version, which Craigs isn't.
All in all, my point still stands: the basics of all the bonds have been the same (or very close to eachother) and all in a way fitting Fleming's descriptions more or less. I am vehemently opposed to throwing that away, it doesn't fit the story. Look at Dr. Who: that story allows for just about any incarnation, which keeps the whole frenchise alive. Bond just doesn't have that much stretcheability. Look at how people reacted even to the 'stepbrother' story. Suddenly giving Bond a family was just wrong, even though it wasn't true family.
Now the guy on the right would be a very good Bond if you ask me!
What is interesting is in this series it appears Poldark is
I believe that Turner would be the perfect man to bring back the aspect of charm and warmth to the character that Roger and Pierce gave it. He is very endearing scene presence with the looks and charisma to match. He just is James Bond, and is growing as an actor. Soon he will be the perfect age to take over the reins.
+1000. Welcome to the Turner club. We're quite a few. Glad to see you part of it.
Aidan Turner for Bond26!
Then go see him in Poldark, @Getafix ;)
Not really. Which is good, because it never pays to sound too keen.
We've had to many smooth chested Bonds.
He's been very coy about it. And rightfully so. That's the way to Bab's heart ;)
The guy's perfect for the role. He's got the acting chops, the intensity,... And he's very Daltonesque, which, in my book, is always a good thing.
Yes, and have you noticed he always plays quite headstrong, proactive characters? It's like he is already playing in that wheelhouse, I don't think he would have to change much.
It certainly doesn't impact his chances negatively at least. I wonder if it's a role he wants, or if he's the kind of actor that's likely to stay away from franchises.
(And I know he's starred in The Hobbit films.)
He was in the Hobbit.
Edited my comment above. ;-)
There's a difference in playing the lead to playing a minor or one character in an ensemble.
Me neither. I've seen him act Bond many times in many roles. And he's done it brilliantly.
This series needs to go back to the seductive espionage element. I love the Craig era, but I'd take right now an Aidan Turner era with true espionage plots, even more Fleming elements, barracuda swimming, garden of death conundrums, baccara playing,... They seem to think Craig is the true Fleming Bond. He isn't. He's a brute blunt instrument that looks like a mixture of an eastern europe thug and Steve McQueen, that's all. Hey, I liked that about him for the last 13 years. And in CR he had that emotion and intensity going on for him, but not anymore, not since. I love the Craig era, and I do like the guy. But I long for a Bond I can identify with. Turner would do.
All my opinion, of course ;)
Agreed. I have never really felt close to the Craig Bond because he didn't have the allure that Bonds of the past had. Mystery, danger, arrogance, I don't know the exact formula, but I know it when I see it, and Turner is the real deal. I think they could make a old-fashioned classic Bond adventure with him and it would work really well. Audiences are probably humgry for something like that in the coming years. You can't go wrong. ;)
He did display those in CR to be fair, but after that he went far to morose for my liking. Kinda sucked the fun out. Turner is the perfect guy to bring some of the old-fashioned flair back.
