Unheralded anniversary: CBS Casino Royale's 60th

This week (Oct. 21 to be precise) was the 60th anniversary of the CBS live broadcast of Casino Royale.

It was the third broadcast of Climax!, a weekly one-hour show. The first was an adaptation of The Long Goodbye, starring Dick Powell as Philip Marlowe. Climax! adapted a number of literary properties.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. Sorry that you got no replies to now. I really need to make a point of watching this at some time. :)

I've seen it. It's hard to love it but I think that, given the lack of an EON template at the time they made this, they pulled it off nicely. Lorre was great as LeChiffre and both Michael Pate and Linda Christian perform pretty well.

It is great for the time. It's even more interesting to watch after seeing The Shining. :P

    "He murdered his whole family."
"Yeah he tried to kill me!"

And Bond and Valerie Mathis live happily ever after :x

Trivia: Linda Christian was the original Bond girl and the original Mathis.

    Love that Charles Leiter.

Lorre did make an excellent Le Chiffre.

I like Calvin Dyson's suggestion of switching Nelson and Michael Pate, so that Nelson played Leiter and Pate, Bond. Would have vastly improved the show for me.

Yes, it was an Americanised take on Bond so the roles were switched with Leiter being the British agent.
