I have never bothered a monkey, so I should be good when the revolution inevitably comes.

One time I was moving the location of my wireless internet router and I accidentally plugged in the wrong AC adapter which looked exactly like the correct one and I fried the circuit. There went $50 down the toilet.

It used to be a standard practice, that if a fuse went in a plug, a piece of silver cigarette
    packet, paper would work.

This story made the 6 o'clock news on BBC Radio 4 on 17 July 2017. Thankfully the baboon was only singed in the incident:

My automatic garage door opener blew a fuse not too long ago. I had to undo one of the springs just so it would shut. If I want to keep it open for extended periods of time I have to put the spring back on.

I know that guy is just trying to portray bad examples, but one must really be an idiot to try and use his "heating elements".

I'm not really afraid of dealing with electricity like exchanging plugs or installing an additional wall socket, not to mention connecting stuff like ceiling lamps, but I do use the most basic precautions, like switching off the fuse and not mixing up differently-coloured leads. Plus, if something happened like a live wire suddenly being grounded, the fault-current circuit breaker would react immediately.

The worst kind of daredevil amateur mess I ever saw was over 33 years ago on a business trip with a colleague to what was then still West Berlin. Having some time left before the flight back, we went to see a friend (or maybe even girlfriend) of his, who studied in the city and lived in a turn-of-the-last-century, more or less run-down apartment with some other people. In at least one room, they had two parallel BLANK copper wires (although out of normal reach - this being a very high old ceiling) stretched from wall to wall, with the regular 220-V mains leads as well as a 60- or even 100-watt incandescent light bulb soldered to those two wires. No part of that was insulated, except I suppose the wires' attachment to the walls, or it would have shorted. I was actually happy when I got out of that place alive.
