Some of my favorite films can be found in the 70s. In particular the best crime films ever made have come from that decade... a rather long list of some of my favorite 70s films:

    Dirty Harry
    Magnum Force
The French Connection/ French Connection II
    Thunderbolt & Lightfoot
    Charley Varrick
    Kelly's Heroes
Beneath The Planet of the Apes
Escape from the Planet of the Apes
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
    The Omega Man
    Play Misty For Me
    The Godfather
    The Godfather Part II
    Across 110th Street
    Dillinger
    The Seven-Ups
    The Conversation
    Chinatown
Freebie and the Bean (delightfully non-PC buddy cop movie with Alan Arkin and James Caan!)
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
    Night Moves
    The Killer Elite
    Assault on Precinct 13
    Demon Seed
    The Gauntlet
    Suspiria
    Blue Collar
    Capricorn One
    High-Ballin'
    Apocalypse Now
    Alien
    The Black Hole
    Star Trek: The Motion Picture

A bit curious about Pelham, really - with Red Grant himself, Robert Shaw being one of the cast. Never seen the 2009 remake, either.

Great list. Forgot about Charley Varrick which I have. Directed by the brilliant Don Siegal.

    The killer Elite (1975),
That's a weird film. It's like someone told Peckinpah he *needed* to enter into the martial arts films at that time, and he wasn't 100% into it. Still, meh Peckinpah is still Peckinpah!

I agree. It's odd. But I love James Caan! He's always good value.

    A bit like TMWTGG? :D
Really liked The Getaway, so The killer Elite is naturally a film that (on paper) sounds interesting, given that it's the same director.

One of the reasons it caught my interest!

Yes, I found ROLLERBALL (1974) to be quiet unsettling as a lad (I guess I was twelve when I saw it; one of the early HBO films, or Home Box Office, as it was called).

I saw it in the theatre at a classic films revival at 16. It blew me away. I was too young for it when it came out. I own it on Blu Ray, and last time I watched it it was like the first time. It's an art house Sci-fi that also pleased crowds with the sport/violence angle.

It's really great film. Maud Adams is in it. Well directed by Norman Jewison.

You had me at Adams - will have to check it out! Interestingly Rollerball is available on iTunes, just like The Killer Elite. Might buy both, and watch them as a double feature.
