I know it's off topic, but I know there are several people on these forums that will enjoy watching
live video coverage of the first landing of a man-made machine on a comet!

This should be better than Interstellar, because it's the real thing.

Note that comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko looks like a duck and the probe will land on the top of its head - fingers crossed! Don't miss the landing, the lander separates this Wednesday (November 12) at 10 a.m. CET and will touch base exactly 5 hours later.

Amazing close-up photos of the comet are also online.

It is so amazing what is theoretically possible in this day and age. I hope the landing is a success and look forward to seeing what happens?

    I love this - I LOVE THIS!
Of course many crazies out there make such silly statements as "why spend all that money on something nobody cares about?" Okay, two things:

    - If you don't care about this, you're simply ignorant. Space science and space technology have done more for us that one can imagine.
    - The total cost of this thing isn't even enough to provide one year of maintenance for one aircraft carrier.

Since many seem to care more about funding the tools of destruction than scientific research, I look towards the future with fear.

Today's landing cost about 10p per year per EU citizen.

I hear from good sources anyway. ;-)

The lander touched down, but it failed to dig its talons into the surface.
What now? Did it bounce off? Does it slowly float away? Only time will tell...

Not much of a space person, but this is simply awe inspiring.

Reminds me of being a kid during the Moon landings.
