What's disgusting is the gross misuse of the quoting. Was it RC7 that said "Well done my friend I've just flagged that..."? I think not!

Also @RC7 I seem to have lost track of your opinion of the song? Did I see that you posted that you liked it? Then didn't like it? I'll have to look back...

    No. Love it.

As a casual observer here, the conversation in this thread is flagrant. Naturally, people will not like the song and we can all talk about it in the most substantial context. There are too many negative posts laced with personal venom. It makes me question why I and others come to an otherwise great place to discuss an interest we all apparently share.

I think it's one of the most beautiful Bond songs, maybe not the best, but incredibly beautiful. Sams voice is amazing, I absolutely love it, and together with the instrumental parts this song really does it for me. It's majestic, epic and beautiful at once... everything I could possibly want in a Bond song. Can't stop listening to it...

Gotcha. Think I was confused again by some weird glitch in the quoting I seem to be experiencing.

If nothing else, it seems WotW is definitely a polarising marmite song and it's not being helped by the 'for' proponents being just as provocative as the 'against' ones. I must be one of the few left on this thread that still hasn't heard the song (deliberately) and don't find the ever more aggressive chiding from both camps very becoming.

If the very fact everyone here is too close to Bond, it's interesting to see the general reaction of the World is actually similar on the net and reported in the press - even Sky and the BBC are showing comments similar to here and yet as shown the charts don't lie so there's immense interest. It just seems maybe, it's a song that's difficult to be indifferent to.

I'm forever impressed by the knowledge and care to detail and analysis given here to anything Bond and whilst I rarely dive into the heavier debating, read prettymuch every thread as I personally strive to keep an open view of all the actors, films, and soundtracks etc in the series.

Guys don't sour things and get acrimonious with one another, please!

I've not used the C word on this forum and I wouldn't use that word with someone I've never even met but I guess RC7 is your mate on here and I'm not so defend him calling me that word all you like.

Agreed. It's a song. You either like it or you don't. no need to throw the C word around because someone doesn't agree or disagree with one another. I like the song but not the vocals, but I feel the same way about Goldfinger and The Man With the Golden Gun's song. I couldn't give a toss about the main title song anyway. I don't watch Bond movies for them. Let's all lighten up.

I wasn't taking sides at all @Shardlake and I'm not condoning the language, I was attempting to make a light-hearted dodge of the issue that obviously fell flat.

My apologies to you @Shardlake if it seemed as though I was participating in a ganging-up on you.

    Classic formula for Bond song:

If you can’t picture a drag queen in a sequined gown singing or lip-synching it in a gay club as dancers in tuxedos dance around her, it’s not a Bond song.

It has served its purpose (as has SS) which was to create attention for the film. That is the reason he was chosen and he has lived up to expectations.

Whether one likes it or not will not impact whether one sees the film. However, some (including members of the general public) may want to purchase earmuffs.

Now it's up to the well publicized film to do the walking, which it had better do next month.

I suppose, but for me the music of Bond is something very important to me, though it appears it is not for Murdock ("I couldn't give a toss about the main title song anyway.")
It's a topic worthwhile for discussion, but "lighten up" is certainly advice we could all use here :)

Bond music is something very important to me too. Mainly the film's score not so much the main title song. That's what I'm more concerned about given I didn't really like Newman's first effort. I'm more curious about that. :P

I knew it was a bad choice of artist to cover the song. Well, with the allowance of this drippy-dreary dribble of a whining song, Babbs/Mendez/Logan/Craig have finally completely neutered Bond. I guess now he'll look better ib those swim tighties that Babbs likes to put on him. The song is everything we've come to expect from this era of the cry-baby, loser Bond -- and, judging from the trailers, a perfect fit for Mendez' upcoming, self-absorbed art-house "007" movie. I'm done with this impostor Bond for good. God bless America for Ethan Hunt. The last two Mission Impossible movies are better than the very best of the Bond movies.

That's a gross exaggeration. Bond is anything but neutered. He's at his best and still going strong.

Does it particularly matter? Everyone is entitled to conduct themselves as they see fit. It doesn't have a significant impact on anyone else. On such an opinion-driven platform, the manner in which people conduct themselves is important. There are seldom facts to fall back on when discussing art. Any effort spent to devolve the conversation into a personal vendetta risks losing all credibility. Since character is all we have as fans with a platform to be heard, credibility is one of the most valuable traits for empowering those opinions. I have respect for most people on here for the way they conduct themselves and hold their opinions in high regard even if I don't agree with them.

I listen and I listen and I try to like it just a little bit and it just doesn't work for me. The intro is great, but then what follows is a fiasco.

First off the song is boring. The arrangement can't change that and by the way, kudos to Newman for saving the song just a little bit. I think any Disclosure or Sam Smith song is more interesting than this one.

Secondly, the vocals are awful. I read somewhere that they used Smith's original demo. It totally shows.

Then, the song is written from Bond's perspective. Smith himself said he had to put himself in the role to write it. I wonder, has he ever seen a Bond movie ? For God's sake, James Bond would never say those things. It sounds more like some of Smith's personal frustrations.

And am I the only one who imagines ballerinas when he goes on a high pitch ?

I knew Smith won't deliver the most ballsy Bond song, but this makes me feel sorry for him.

    Tom Cruise is still shorter.

..to each his own .. but this is a Bond forum geared more toward Bond fans. The series changes and evolves ...sometimes with the trends sometimes not.

I like both but Bond way more.

It's funny people want traditional Bond back when most people here started having a problem with Daniel's tenure after Skyfall, which was more in the spirit of traditional Bond with the 50th anniversary and all. Casino Royale is still in my opinion the best Bond film to date and most people's isue with QOS is that it is boring. I bet many reconsidered after SF. At least the QOS plot was more credible and current.

I guess Bond x Sam Mendes just doesn't work. Maybe it's time for Nolan and fresh breath of air.

I think I'm with you on that one too. I've just caught up on this forum since yesterday, and I cannot believe the hateful comments. I've had some thrown at me not long ago. I'm a honest genuine, nice lad. I have sometimes gave it back, but there's some people on this forum who are very nasty and say thing to irritate. Lets all just play nice. We are all bond fans in the end of the day, but we will obviously have different opinions.

The song has grown on me other more playthroughts, but many agree with what I said on sams facebook page. I got loads of likes when I said it lacks oomph and that the high pitch vocal spoils the song.

The song is how I imagined it to be, I really did. Not exactly, but the kind of vocals. I racked my brain ever since he was announced as the singer. I said to myself, how can that work, going from his previous songs. And in the end, it doesn't work well at all.

Not to worry , lets hope the gun barrel returns at the beginning and the film is a huge sucsess and amazing!!!!

It might be interesting. At least for the sake of "what would Hans Zimmer do with Bond ?" since we're in this thread.

I think I miss Guy Ritchie when I hear Mendes' name. And his current wife would only be a Bond girl with no expectations to sing the theme :D

Finally! Got to work this morning and saw 700+ posts since my last visit on Tuesday! Took me 11 hours to catch up!

I listened to the song on iTunes as soon as I woke up this morning, headphones on, and just closed my eyes trying to picture a title sequence with all the requisite Bond imagery. I did flinch when he went high, but overall I really love the song and it's been in my head all day. It's also raining where I'm at and the melancholy of the song fits the weather perfectly. Can't wait to hear it in theaters soon!

Perhaps but I don't really care for Nolan nor Zimmer. Both are dull and lifeless to me. Nolan while a good director is a mediocre writer and his work comes off as pretentious sometimes. Something I'd want far away from Bond. Zimmer too. Newman's Skyfall score aped Zimmer occasionally and I just rolled my eyes.
