I think most people are looking for something that would be just awesome. We shall wait and see.
Well, sorry to say this, but I definately think "Skyfall" was the best Bond song in the Craig era so far. I especially liked the ballad-esque slow-tempo of the song. It reminded me a bit of YOLT, MR and DAF, but it was still very much an Adele entry.
SF worked OK with the film, and could have been far worse. But in comparison to some of the great Bond theme songs, it did not deserve an Oscar, but then again, since when do Oscars usually go to the deserving.
What so bugs me about these potential names is why is it so hard to get a singer or band that is both popular AND good. Smith has no track record other than one hit and his appeal is mostly to kids while Bond films appeal to mostly adults. I do think it will be Smith who is being "cute" about deflecting the gossip.
Ooh, no. YKMN is definitely the best of the era. I remember when the first sample leaked people thought it was a remix. It was only once the full track was revealed that people realised that it was the actual theme. What was great was watching people switch from a state of confusion to realisation that, 'fuck, this is new-era Bond'. It's definitely up there with something like NDIB, a mould breaker that pushes the Bond sound. SF sounded like a Bond tune from the off.
For me, it comes down to the song. I mean, not even Paul McCartney could have saved "All Time High" or "For Your Eyes Only." Likewise, few singers could have ruined "A View to a Kill" or "Live and Let Die."
If the song is good, Ellie will work out great.
Finally, we disagree again ;-).
Do you have any stats to back this up? I can't speak for the US, but you don't sell 1m copies of a single album in the UK without a substantial amount of adults purchasing it.
What kind/type of song would you like to see for "SPECTRE"? You have a few Youtube examples?
I have no examples, because I don't want it to sound like anything else. It's not my job to come up with a song, that's why one of these artists will be paid a small fortune to do so. I just want something kick ass. If I was put on the spot I'd essentially like something with the class of DAF, the adrenaline of OHMSS and a euphoric vocal.
But, if it is Smith, and if it is a great title song, I promise to be one of the first ones on a related thread to say "uncle."
I was merely stating that 1m sales suggests his appeal is way beyond just 'kids', as you implied.
Secondly, I don't see why EON has to be so secretive about it. There is a huge buzz surrounding her singing the theme, it's all part of their marketing (even if it turns out not to be true).
Be open minded, people.
Is there?
As for stats @RC7, I haven't a clue. I'm just guessing that Smith's appeal is mostly to teenagers and young adults.
Is there?
Kind of. If you Google goulding bond, you get a bunch of articles.
Then again, @SaintMark said it best. Craig has had amazing title songs during his run and it's not really our place to scrutinize the pick. This is a matter that dictates its own result. They make a good move and it will benefit the SPECTRE campaign and if it is a bad one, it will hurt the bottom line in some way. We'll be going to see it regardless. It's all of the casual fans and non-fans that it will have the biggest impact on.
Oh well I guess we will hear if it is Ellie Goulding on the 23rd when the 2min 30 trailer is released.
I doubt they would drop the trailer and the title song performer on the same day. I still think we have a ways to wait before the performer is announced.
You'd think so. Adele wasn't announced until October.
You read it correctly mcdonbb re: the gunbarrel! But I much prefer Ellie Goulding to any male singer for the theme tune.
That´s exactly what I thought
