I wish Pulp's song would have been used instead, so much better.

Utter garbage. This song is all over the place, doesn't even sound in rhythm, doesn't sound memorable, the vocals sound garage band worthy.

I have no kind words for "Surrender", too pastiche for me, like a bad imitation of what a spy film theme tune supposedly sounds like.

I'm really not a fan of surrender for the very same reason. It seems to be all over the place. Certainly wouldn't rate it as an end song let alone an intro one

I'm in agreement here. I too find it pastiche. I prefer Crowe's often lambasted title track personally.

I find Crowe's song and recording pretty mediocre. Not the worst but just very middle of the road. TWINE and DAD are worse. I remember sitting in the cinema as the end credits rolled with Kd Lang singing Surrender and thinking why the hell wasn't this the main title track!?

I just listened to both again. I agree that Lang's track is more Bondian, and bold/brassy, and her voice is certainly much stronger than Crowe's but it is derivative to my ears, hence my agreement on it being pastiche.

Crowe's track doesn't really suit the upbeat nature of the film admittedly, but I somehow like the lyrics and mellow tune as a standalone listen (it's unique enough in the canon).

Lang's just seems imitative of the greats and yet not quite up to the Barry tracks or even Turner's Edge/Bono helmed previous entry, which may be why they decided to go with a different sound with Crowe as the main.

Surrender is more Bondian, bolder, brassier and Kd Lang has a much stronger voice, but you still prefer Crowe's song...?

    Each to their own.

Lang's song sounds like end title music not main title music . Not a bash to the song at all ..I just mean the style of the song.

@dominicgreene lol, you sound like a talent show judge.

It's a matter of taste really, I for one think it would have worked quite well.

The song was obviously a demo, it would have been further developped and embelished by Arnold if it were greenlit, so some perspective is advised when listening.

Ha. You're really not a big fan of alternative British rock bands are you?

This is PULP doing 'All Time High', which I actually prefer to the original. DA's work on it is awesome.

"Including title song artist..." what more could be revealed other than that?

Re: Phil: The suspicious fb header does refer to the cover of a rerelease of his most successful 80s solo albums named "Take a Look at Me Now". His particiation may still be possible since Newman himself is a self-proclaimed Peter Gabriel fan which led to their collaboration in WALL-E - there he did include the melody into the score retroactively. And from PG to PC isn't a big jump obiviously.

Is that announcement rumor based on anything? I believe over at the Production thread that marketto said (with some insider knowledge) that there WILL be a conference but WITHOUT the song.

Oh, and I found the following just to silence those who rule out Radiohead prematurely:

And you can pretty much see the performance IS even more important than the song itself :D

Still holding hope that Lady Gaga is the title artist
  • edited September 2015 Posts: 330
Having youtube doesn't make it completely official. Its a podcast isn't it. But I'm not doubting it. Thanks for letting me know Sandy. I just don't want to get hopes up and excited then find out it was false.

I too would love lady gaga to do it.

    Maybe this helps:

thanks sandy. Still don't think it's genuine enough to get excited about. Source is from US and I don't think it will be artist reveal. I hope it is though.

Source is from the US - this suggests that advance tickets for the US go on sale on the 8th.

I second that, @fromswedenwithlove. Chris and Tom from JBR are trustworthy and they wouldn't mislead the Bondian community in such a way.

So it will be artist reveal first and then another month before the song is released?

I've fingers crossed for Radiohead but I'm prepared for the underwhelming Smith or Goulding.

Arctic Monkeys would be fine and yes Pulp would have made a great theme once, This is Hardcore always struck me as their most Barry like song and one of my favourites of Jarvis and the gang, got that album on double vinyl need to give it a spin soon.

the problem is that whoever is picked it will let down a lot of fans. Just watching this thread for the last few months it's evident that whoever is picked will be 'the obvious choice' and 'clearly just pandering'. I would certainly hate to be in EON's shoe's on this one.

Looks like the Facebook image of Phil Collins profile was a teaser for the cover of his "Face Value" remastered album which will be released November 6th. I don't know if this rules him out..

The new poster says that the soundtrack, as opposed to Sony Classical or any other Sony brand, will be released by Decca Records (which is a part of Universal Music Group as opposed to Sony).

May this offer us a hint on who's doing it....
