Damn, it is only one week until it's out. Where has the month gone? SP will be out before I know it. Sadly, I'm still forcing myself to not listen to it until I hear it in the movie in November. If you've never tried that before, I suggest you do it, it's always a nice treat hearing the new title song in the first viewing alongside the themes.

I would really love to do this. But my excitement and temptation always gets the better of me. I feel I need to listen to it to make sure I'm happy with it, if that makes scene. But I wish I could, as I can imagine how cool it would be to hear it for the first time at the cinema. I've added a video below of Sam singing a song I really like, in the run up to launch.

I know with Skyfall, the theme they played was a weird cut of the actual song recorded and released by Adele, which was obviously (and appropriately) done so it matches the timing of the titles sequence. It was, however, different than the song released by Adele. I imagine they'll do the same for WotW and its for that reason I'll be listening to the song before I see the film. Still haven't seen any teasers or trailers though.

"The writing on the wall", or "the hand writing on the wall", or "the writing is on the wall" or "Mene Mene", is an idiom implying that there is evidence of an impending disaster. The event may be seen as difficult to avert.

'Staat geschreven op de muur''. is straight translation, but actualy meaning in Dutch is ''Teken aan de wand''. That's a difrent meaning. It means, symbol/sign-hint. Like earlier empty chair, i never left, tricker gun in main title in QOS stay for M her death.

The phrase "writing on the wall" (or sometimes handwriting on the wall) is an expression thats suggests future doom or misfortune, visible to almost anyone.

Hell break lose in Bond 25. Something Wicked this way comes...

This song whas refer to the movie it self and his sequel Harry Potter 4.

If one thing all Daniel Craig movies and mabey also DAD have incomen it be lyrics. What i like very much from maintitles of Skyfall is that this time you can see some of Casino Royale lyrics.

I might just try and do that @Creasy47. I don't listen to 'pop' radio much anymore (more of a jazz man these days) so it shouldn't be too difficult for me to do. My concern also is that the lyrics may give away some plot points needlessly, and also the video may (may...) do the same.

I'd like to hear it for the first time in the theatre (did that with both Adele & Cornell and it was an impressive feeling......particularly Cornell as YKMN was very fresh sounding to me for for a Bond film.).

Having said that, I'll read all the reviews on here beforehand (should be fun to read what people think).

Sometimes it's hard to avoid the new song, what with all the radio play and media attention.

True. I've done it before. Not through any specific effort or anything, I don't listen to radio anyway nowadays so it's very easy to avoid hearing the song if I choose to. It's a choice between clicking or not clicking on a link when posted on the internet. Sometimes I've managed to avoid the trailers as well. This time I've watched teaser and trailer and tv spot. I haven't decided yet what to do with the song.

I've been trying to do that since DAD, but no luck. Damn radio!

I've heard mention that the song lyrics may be spoilery. So, even if you wait to the cinema to listen, isn't it going to ruin the next two+ hours of the film after you hear it in the main titles?

I like the idea of avoiding it and hearing it 1st time upon viewing the film.
Believe it or not, I have actually restrained myself from watching the last trailer... want to see what it's like watching a Bond movie in the cinema without having analysed a lot of the imagery beforehand.

At my workplace the radio is going in the background so I have no chance at avoiding the song as it will be on heavy rotation on the radio :((

I, too, don't listen to the radio at all, so all it takes is for me not to seek out and play the song online and I'm golden.

I'm not a huge Sam Smith fan, but I quite like the cover he did with Disclosure of Drake's 'Hotline Bling' on the Live Lounge.

My main quibble with him is that I can't understand the lyrics when he sings really high notes. But maybe I just need my hearing checked.

Not hearing radio play before viewing the opening titles is definitely worth doing and always works for me! Not too difficult as there's usually absolute cringeworthy rubbish on anyhow.

By being disciplined it's probably why I love SF and YNMN as they work so much better with the visual art.

Of course I'll be likely be wanting to hear the track repetitively after I've seen the first night showing hopefully after seeing a damned good performance from everyone involved!

Just be firm and stay away from threads with links and mr graves analysing every word and nuance ; ) . I'm only half kidding as the typing word count per minute is mightily extensive!! :D

As someone pointed out earlier in the thread - EoN are, as with he bland poster, playing it oh so very safe with the choice of Sam Smith.
I have nothing against the fella' or those who enjoy his music, but it cannot be denied that he & his songs are real 'lowest common denominator' kind of stuff. They really are.

It is quite frankly like Phil Collins or Toto doing the title song back in the 1980's.

Blandness seems to be a recurring theme so far in the lead up to SP...

    Same feeling here...... so far.

At least Phil had some music with and edge to it; even at this point I would take him over Smith.

I've been doing a lot of listening to Sam Smith over the last couple of days, and while a lot of his stuff is unpalatable to me, I like some of his stuff quite a bit. I'm Not The Only One is really fantastic, IMO.
I've also listened to some of his collaborations with Disclosure such as Omen and more relevantly Latch (exactly the same creative team as WotW) and they're really great. Gives me a lot of hope for the theme song.

I know this is going to sound like a stick in the mud but................ oh for the days when they would use someone like Armstrong for their love songs.

If the SPECTRE song is as good as I'm Not the Only One, I'll be pretty happy.

Yeah, needs to be on those lines, but I hope it's far more upbeat than that song. Needs to be far more bond.

Agreed. But I think Smith has shown he can deliver the quality required.

Can't believe anyone seriously wants Phil Collins. I think it was actually me who suggested him as a joke a few weeks ago.

"I thought it would just go away - and then I innocently tweeted 'Live and Let Die', which I didn't even know was a Bond song," she insisted.
    Is she totally stupid ?

good to be a non-native speaker then. We tend to be able to tune out the lyrics of foreign language songs the way we can't with songs in our own language. If I don't make it a point to listen to the lyrics, I'll just hear the music and some random voice singing. :)

Isn't Live and Let Die a proprietary Bond-ism?
I know live and let live is a common euphamism. Is Live and Let Die used anywhere that isn't Bond?
  • If the song is as catchy and enjoyable as "Like I Can," I'll be quite happy.

Nice! I'm listening to it now, and I agree.

Although I still say Only One is Sam's best.
