Madonna was horrible, but so was Alicia/Jack B & Garbage (living up their name) imho.

Yeah. There's been stiff competition recently for worst song.

Not in the same league but never a big fan of TB or TMWTGG either.

Sorry but TWINE is one of the best, top 5 for me.

Well, I thought Arnold did an excellent job wit Surrender, which should have been the title track on TND, but the TWINE song is dire.

I am still getting over Adelle's language, bad call on my part. Music is such a personal thing , its hard to debate. One thing I would say is that Bond movies are big: big sets, big stunts, big bad guys , big locations etc etc, so for me, it makes sense to have a big voice. Is it coincidence that the best loved themes are sung with big voices?. Garbage versus Dame Shirley? its no contest. Obviously the melody is vital but it needs to be belted out with gusto and big lungs IMHO
PS its quite easy to imagine Dame Shirley doing TWINE, she would have transformed it IMHO, its a good song (not a classic) but let down by the execution. In reverse, imagine SC doing DAF!

Quite. The TWINE song is a warbly, forgettable piece of puff. Shirley could imbue reading out a shopping list with majesty and drama though.

Still better than DAD though, a second rate dance tune.

I dunno. At least Madge's effort is vaguely memorable. Both pretty awful though, in fairness.

Such a shame, given the number of great acts around in the 90s and early 2000s who could have really nailed it.

IMO, AWTD is the best of the recent efforts. I think Arnold did a great job there. Beautiful title credits sequence as well of course. I think one of my favourites of the entire series.

Its very easy to fall into the "music isn't what it used to be" category...so thats what I do. I know its cheesy but Tony Hadley can sing the socks off most of the present crop and Gary Kemp was a great song writer. We went through a period of a wealth a riches where we were spoiled for choice...and now things have changed.

sorry, just Googled SB and Barry and found this, never knew he was an inspiration, always learning.

Think Cheryl Crows TND is the most under-rated. Think its a great song.

Not now but a few years ago Portishead would have been amazing on title theme duties.

Surrender was a better theme and should have been used instead though.

Each to their own I think TND is alongside TWINE probably the dreariest title tunes of the series and agree Surrender would have been much better.

Glad to see Arnold hit it out the park when he collaborated with an artist again (YNMN)
Cornell's song blows the Garbage collaboration out the water.

I agree that the song itself is underrated but also feel that Crow was out of her element/league in performing it; her voice is a bit thin at times. A more powerful vocal, Ann Wilson of Heart for example, would have greatly enhanced this tune.

Crow's song is abysmal. Surrender should have been used. Can remember hearing it over the closing credits and thinking that's the best thing about the entire film. Shame that when EON gave Arnold a crack at the title song for TWINE he totally blew it . AWTD redeemed him somewhat though - a good Bond song.

Agree that Poetishead would have been perfect back in the day. But EON were just happy to churn out dreck during the 90s. Those films are all just massive missed opportunities when you think about the music that was around, the fashion and the architecture. Only TND and the Bilbao section of TWINE come close to 'getting' that 90s vibe. They could have been stylish but mainly feel like one long 80s hangover.

I think Skyfall was great. It very much suited the movie. Also get the chillings whenever I hear it and then visualising Bond get shot and falling off the bridge.

Love the Casino Royale theme by Cornell too. Great melody. Very rock and firm (a bit in the spirit of Live And Let Die). From From Russia till GoldenEye I like all the themes.
With TND I don't like Sheryl but do like K.D. Lang with Surrender.

Garbage was actually a little bit garbage, and didn't care for Madonna. Jack White and Alicia Keys thought it sounded like The Man With The Golden Gun era sound by Barry.
It's not great but it is a nice hommage to the old school Barry-esque sound.

I'm not sure that AWTD sounds like Barry, but I don't think it's quite as bad as some other have made out.

Maybe not the style of music suitable for Bond but the voice is pretty good IMO.

If announcing that you want to do a Bond theme rules you out of doing a Bond theme, then Noel Gallagher has ruled himself out of doing a Bond theme, by announcing his interest in doing a Bond theme.

Just found this, I'm not sure how they can know this and I knew it would only be a matter of time before I wasn't going to like the Artist chosen in the Craig era but Sam Smith really?

What's this bollocks about Aidan Turner being the next Bond?

Give the job to Hosier, Take Me To Church sounds quite Bondian, anything but Sam Smith please!

If U2 could channel the vibe on Volcano or Raised By Wolves 2 of the best tracks from their new superb and much undervalued album I say give them the gig, they are global superstars and GE was a great tune.

The Sam smith rumour has been around for ages. It sounds very plausible to me. And a canny marketing move. He's flavour of the month and not without talent. They could do worse I think.

It's all based on betting odds, they're not saying it's set in stone, just that the probability has increased.

It's understandable, he's won 4 Grammy awards, 2 Brits, MOBOs etc - he's high profile and a "name" at the moment. With rumours in the press for a while now, it's not surprising that his odds have been slashed.

Again, it's just betting odds, and he is popular right now - He's brilliant in Poldark and from what I've seen on social media, he's definitely a hit with the ladies. I think he could pull off playing Bond. But, as I've said, this is nothing definitive.

Agreed. Everything suggests it will be him. The article mentions that they're not sure whether it's a done deal, or if they've simply begun negotiations. Well, as we know, it's been a done deal for some time. In terms of profile and reach EON simply want the next Adele and that happens to be Sam Smith at this moment in time.

I think Sam Smith is very capable of doing a very memorable theme IMO.
