    I hope that clip isn't just the 'retro bit' before the drum & bass kick in. I'd love to hear a fully orchestrated Bond theme. Fingers crossed.

    I'd agree with you if Disclosure weren't so damn amazing.

    Well, honestly the snippet is just a lovely instrumental bit that sounds Bondian. That's all well and good ... but we don't know the song yet by any means. I'm waiting till I hear Sam singing to judge whether I like his voice in this or not. If it's a lovely melody, then I'm happy as long as he does not sound like a singing chipmunk (his saying that this is the highest voice he has ever sung in is not reassuring to me).

    But it seems the intro/snippet we've heard now is at least a good Bondian sound ... here's hoping!

    Although they have a D&B influence, and are primarily in the dance sector, Disclosure are first and foremost musicians. We have nothing to fear from their involvement.

  • It's only 15 seconds but, I have to say, I'm feeling really good about the theme. Granted, I was hoping for something a bit more punchy or rock oriented, but I figured that was unlikely once Smith was announced. I'm not a fan of Smith's by any means, but I do recognize his vocal talent. My apprehension is that the majority of his songs have this ho-hum generic pop/R&B sound, and I was concerned that Writing's On the Wall would be heading down that path, but that snippet is not only beautifully orchestrated, but undoubtedly 100% pure Bond. It's not hard to imagine those being the opening bars to 1960's Connery Bond film.

    Sam Smith Hypes ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ With 007-Themed Teaser: Listen -

    “I just knew I wanted to write a love song,” he said. “In all Bond films, there is an underlying message of love and I feel like I can write love songs. So I was like, ‘I’m going to go in and I’m going to write the biggest, most epic love song I can.’ What I also wanted to do was to create something classic. I love “Goldfinger” and all those songs — the really classic, traditional James Bond songs.”

    Well, it's a bit ridiculous to write what I'll write from a 15sec snippet, but listen to the 00:12-00:13 bars of music : it's already slowing down, so IMO it's hard to imagine a very upbeat rythm after that. But actually everything is possible (ie : sharp contrast and indeed something upbeat after).

    We are here, 53 years after the great "Doctor No". And still, agent 007 inspires us and brings the best creative talents into reality :-).

    does anyone have a working iTunes link to preorder for USA?

    Nothing in Canada either yet.

    Heh, you checked as well? Odd that we can't pre-order it. In any event, it's coming out in four days, so it's not the end of the world.

    Interesting snippet. It already has a slight YOLT and FRWL sweeping orchestrated vibe about it from that teaser intro. I think Sam's song could be quite good after all. Here's hoping Newman includes it this time.
  • Sure, it has an orchestra and starts off like Thunderball, but it has no hook and falls flat after 15 seconds.

    i know right?... just based off these notes alone i can picture it being woven into the score - especially if it's true that Smith finished this song a long time ago (there is almost no excuse for it not to be lol.)..

    i know i shouldn't dignify this with a response... but i am going to anyway...

    ...it's only 15 seconds.

    Absolutely, just based on these notes alone it's got a beautiful, sweeping sound that evokes classic Bond that screams to be included in the actual score. All the best Bond scores have included the theme song repeated in various forms through out the movies; I can't think of a good Bond score that's hasn't. SF song inclusion was just an after thought so, for me, Newman's score rating is in the bottom pile.

    SF's inclusion was basically an "after thought" or a "pushed into including it" inclusion. Shame because it would have been very lovely woven throughout (judiciously).
    I do think Newman heard from many people about this, so we can probably be optimistic that he will do better with this score overall and to include the title song. I'm slightly optimistic, yes.

    i wonder though how much of that was his doing?... i am not keen to specifics, but i think i remember reports that Adele was busy creating her theme well into when Newman had already begun work on his score - this might be the reason why her song didn't have a presence in the score beyond that 1 track.... it stands to reason that since Smith finished recording this as early as he did, Newman may find ways to weave it into his score.

    we shall see... when does the actual score drop? are we still a month away for that?

    Even if he doesn't incorporate it fully into his score (i.e. use it as a secondary melody to his own) it still needs more of a presence than what Adele's did.

    I expect we will get soundtrack previews maybe two weeks before the film is out. I think that's what happened with Skyfall.

    @bondjames
    @KlausHergesheimer

    i agree with both of your comparisons to parts of Barry's score for MR and AVTAK..

    to my ears, i also hear a little bit of an Octopussy sound in there as well... i couldn't tell you what track though..

    EDIT: i might actually be thinking of that cue from MR, not OP..

    Not sure how people are hearing so much in this one snippet. Octopussy and TB? Really?

    I heard more of The World Is Not Enough in the melody, and I like that. :)

    You people are all high. You can clearly hear orchestral cues of underneath the mango tree.

    I'm liking the variety of comparisons here- an amalgam, rather than sounding too close to one specific theme. Someone on another forum said they could hear a bit of TND in there.

    I think we're on an all time high... hang on, now that I think about it, if you listen to Writing's on the wall backwards it sounds pretty much like All Time High and Burt Bacharach's Casino Royale theme slowed down.

    IF you play it backwards you can hear the devil in the background
