put Logan on the banned list, with Haggis and Forster ( at least I hope they are on the banned list).

Forster, whatever.... but why Haggis??... He did an excellent job retooling P&W's CR script - and he barely was able to work on QOS before the Writer's Strike happened - in which he HAD to turn the script back over to EON before they officially striked, which is why we got what we got the unfinished mess that we did... i don't think it was his decision to want to quit on the script - but in these situations, you do what your Union tells you to do, or else you could get easily blacklisted or thrown out...

this is unless you hated both CR and QOS - to which I understand...

but I would much rather have Haggis back for Bond25 than Logan...

I think everyone has calmed down by now, but I know for a fact that both Mendes and Barabra Broccoli were really upset back in June and July. It's not like they had a great script for a long time and they were just polishing it. The story of the pre-production of Spectre is not like the story of a plane landing safely after a long flight, but more like the story of 50 people surviving the crash landing of a plane that had 100 passangers.

This is my suggestion for BB and Mendes:

    1. Pick up a mirror

    2. Look in the mirror.

    3. Say, "A-ha, there's the culprit!"

Both BB and Mendes wanted to pursue other projects. A writer (Logan) was hired who, likewise, was pursuing other projects. Everyone concerned wanted a three-year gap so they could pursue their other projects.

When everyone involved finally got around to working on a Bond movie, they were behind the 8 ball and had to scramble.

thats a little harsh... do you think they hired someone, thinking and knowing that he would turn in substandard work?... they hired him back, because of the success of SF, and because he and Mendes had a great working relationship - and Mendes wanted him back.. it wasn't until they got his script that they realized that maybe sacking Purvis & Wade wasn't the best choice - so they brought them back to rework the script..

    Here's why I don't think it's harsh.

    1. Logan told Empire in early 2014 he was working closely with both Sam Mendes and with Daniel Craig. Unless Logan was lying, Mendes should have had *some idea* how things were going.

    2. Logan made his Bond 24/Bond 25 pitch in 2012. Unless his pitch consisted of, "Let me write something up and see how it goes," Barbara Broccoli should have had *some idea* what Logan was doing. It certainly seems unlikely Logan would get a two-picture deal based on such a sketchy pitch. Later, in early 2013, Baz Bamigboye said some kind of treatment for both Bond 24 and Bond 25 existed.

    3. Bamigboye (who, as noted before as a good track record for accuracy on his Bond reporting) said both Mendes and Craig were responsible for summoning Purvis and Wade back. Yet, Logan says he was working closely with both.

Maybe Logan wasn't working as closely with Mendes as he made it sound. Maybe Logan sprung a surprise on all concerned. In any case, about a year passed from the time the two-picture idea was scrapped to Logan turning in his first draft. Logan, Mendes and Broccoli all had other irons in the fire during much of 2013.

i doubt they all sat in a room together writing this thing out... as busy as both Mendes and Craig were.. no doubt there were probably plenty of conference calls, skype chats, texts, and emails between all concerning parties... they probably all got together, came up with a general idea, then let Logan go do his thing... he turns back in a draft - they then discuss what changes or improvements need to be made, then let Logan go back to rewrite... after a while, he turns back in the rewrite... things obviously still weren't enough to Mendes', Craig' and EON's standard - so with the clock ticking, they resort to bringing back P&W to do a rewrite..... could they have probably done things a little smoother - and possibly sooner... yes... but we don't know what all said parties were doing, while script writing was going on.. i doubt they sat there and twiddled their thumbs like people probably think..

I would prefer purvis wade return with Jez Butterworth as the third writer and The director of driver Nicholas whatever his last name is directing

Ban Paul Haggis?! ... I must be living in an alternate universe where Paul Haggis is a bad writer, but Purvis and Wade are somehow Shakespeare reincarnated...

Hi Guys, seems things are heating up here!!
Well, getting away from your discussion, and back to what matters, has anybody read the detailed storyline of Bond 17 (the cancelled 3rd Dalton Bond movie)?

I noticed that some scenes and ideas are, with flexibility, adapted and used in SP:
    - A day spa for the rich and powerful on top of a mountain near a ski resort(!!);
    - A chase through a local parade (!!);
    - A chase in the streets of Tokio between the Aston Martin and a high tech vehicle (bond versus henchman, Rodin, a character that resembles very much Mr. Hinx) that ends with the AM crashing/plummeting into the river (!!) and Bond ejecting and parachuting to safety (!!).

Just a curiosity that I wanted to share.
By the way this Bond17 could have been the best Dalton JB movie I think.

It's very sad to hear that, truly. I just saw TLD last night after a long time and I realized how good Dalton was in the role. He was robbed from us. Not surprised they are recycling. They do that a lot with ideas. Still, damn shame no Dalton #3

Before that script, Haggis also worked on another Quantum script that Eon rejected, involving Bond looking for Vesper's child. It was after that rejection that the clock was ticking.

the constant barrage of crap from someone who clearly doesn't understand how messy pre-production and script writing is on a whole for 90% of the film world

First of all, that is just blatant exaggeration. Also, even if it was true: who cares? The messy pre-production and script writing process of other movies doesn't justify the mistakes the producers made during the pre-production of Spectre. And even if only 10% of movies had a smooth pre-production, that would already prove that it can be done.
    km16 wrote: »
Also just an aside, there is a major different @PanchitoPistoles between the entire script sucking and only an act of which you are still wrong on. When a majority is good and a portion is not, the script in its entirety does not suck.

Do I really have to repeat myself? Ok, here it goes... They finally had first two acts everyone seemed to be happy with in October 2014. I wrote that the script was still a mess about 20 months after the release of Skyfall. About 20 months after the release of Skyfall is June/July 2014 and back then the script was definitely still a mess. Not just the third act, but the whole script. Do you understand it now?

Also, 2012 drafting ideas isn't early enough for you. I'd be curious to know how much time you apparently think is necessary then. However, I can't be bothered anymore.

2012? Are you joking? Logan handed in an outline in October 2013. Maybe it wasn't the first outline but it was definitely still an outline. They didn't even have a first draft a whole year after the release of Skyfall. Logan's first draft was handed in during March 2014.

Do you want to know how my timeline would look like?
    - a writer starts drafting ideas in January 2013
    - first outline handed in during March 2013 the very latest
    - first treatment by summer 2013
    - first draft by October 2013
    - final draft by spring 2014
If the writer is stuck at any time during the process and can't meet a deadline, I would bring in additional writers.

Those shots of the Ice Clinic are breathtaking. Looks real good. It's OHMSS all over again.
Can't wait to see what they cook up for interiors.

Most recent draft of the pts is nicely fleshed out. That's a great opening in Mexico.
So Bond has been tracking Sciarra because M told him to kill him. Interesting. That's why he's so coy with Mallory in their initial briefing.
Can't wait to see what this Estrella girl looks like.

Anyone; how did Dench-M, communicate with Bond to kill Sciarra. Were her instructions in the bulldog figure, that Bond got from MP on the roof, at the end of SF?

Love the homage in the pts to the Junkaroo from TB and the street dancing we saw in MR.
I am early in my reviewing obviously, but a lot of this dialogue just oozes Craig. The writers had his dour demeanour in mind, it seems. It works. The dialogue suits him. There is plenty of the Bond sardonic humour.
So far this film is looking like an actual Bond movie. Much good Bond mojo so far.

Old M left a video message on a DVD to instruct Bond (in the event of her demise) to find and kill Marco Sciarra and to attend his funeral. The DVD was in sent to Bond after the death of M.

So does Judi Dench's M have one more (cameo) appearance in a Bond film via a recorded message?

Apparently. The franchise can't seem to get rid of her ;-)

What strikes me is that Lucia, and all females involved apparently survives. I figured Lucia as a sacrificial lamb.

I love the outlines I have read I haven't read the script but love Spectre and love popping in this thread as all I keep hearing is positive things

In the most recent draft one question

    1. Does bond say we have all the time in the world

If he does two follow ups

    1. How do you feel having such a classic line be brought back

    2. How would you feel if Bond 25 was titled All the time in the World.

Also is it me or does Spectre turn Mr White kind of into Draco let's make no. Bones about Draco did order his men to try and kill bond twice once In the pts and once in Tracy room. The third time his henchmen collect 007 we still aren't sure if Draco wants to kill 007 or not I wonder if the script put Mr White in that light if so it does make me appreciate him in casino and quantum a bit more. Either way I am so so soooooo happy he is being dealt with and Quantum is not forgotten.

Considering earlier versions of the script I honestly wonder if they couldn't get the rights would they have gone this route anyways just changing Spectre to Quantum etc.

    Hi @risico007

    1. Does bond say we have all the time in the world?

    yep

If he does two follow ups
    1. How do you feel having such a classic line be brought back

Its a risk but i guess many of the new generations of moviegoers (non bond fans like we) havent seen OHMSS so it will still be original. I think they brought it back mainly to antecipate what will happen in Bond 25. So, as much as i agree with @ThomasCrown76, i guess Maddy as her fate written for Bond 25! Just a guess!

    2. How would you feel if Bond 25 was titled All the time in the World.
Sincerelly, dont like it as a Bond movie title. Its to romantic for THE title.
Must be something that feels more suspensful and intriguing!

I do think it's telling as I watch Casino Royale Craig has had more Fleming plots and titles then anyone since god The 80's ...

This feels like a mixture of Thunderball and Ohmss which I like and makes me wonder if the next film will be 100% ohmss or perhaps a mixture of ohmss and yolt either way I am happy

Now if we can just get a bloody good bunch of video games then I would be happy
  • I have read October draft and I must say that I Love it, even the 3rd act is fine. It is going to be 100% Bond, but with all the psicological stuff of the Craig era. Do you think December version is better?
However, I was expecting a skiing scene in Austria, not another vehecle chase. Another thing I don't like is that in the last movies everything seems to be very personal: M-Silva-Bond, Bond-Oberhsuser, Bond-Vespers Boyfriend...
Do you realy think this is going to be the last of Craig as 007? I thought he was going to make another one, he is still 46 ...

It's very different. Like Peking Duck is different from Russian Caviar. But I love them both. ;-)
I do think they should have kept the solar furnace, because it's unique and original, like the laser-scene in GF. But overall I like the December version better.

Is it really so different? I also have december script, but I prefer not to read it and keep some surprise factor.

Me too. Never had the foggiest what a solar furnace was when first heard it mentioned but after googling it, I was really looking forward to seeing it on screen. As you say, would have been very iconic.
