oh boy, it must be that time of the month for @DaltonCraig again ;-) lol.......
Frankly she is past her sell date since DAD, and she has firmly set Craig's first 2 film to the abyss of Movie-Land.
I hope Craig can have a couple of films without Dench, or his era will be worse than anything ever imagined. Frankly I am almost done with the franchise until Craig leaves. I can't take any more rubbish.
This one cracks me up..... Judi Dench alone is the sole reason that (according to you) BOTH Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace are steaming piles of s***?... so substitute her out for another actor/actress in the role of M, and suddenly all the flaws are fixed? - as if she is the catalyst to everything bad in these films?....... i just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly - because that's too funny..

This sort of reminds me of a girlfriend, or boyfriend - who no longer wishes to be in their current relationship, so they'll grasp at any and every straw of an excuse to find something wrong.... lol - it's just too precious...

i personally don't care whether Dench stays or goes... the fact that she will be 77 (4 years older than Bernard Lee when he passed - and he was set to return as M in FYEO - tragically he didn't.) i could care less.... it's not like she's strapping up an AK and helping Bond on his missions when she goes "into the field" - i don't see her throwing any punches or getting into high speed chases while being attached to Bond's hip.......... i honestly don't see what the big deal is.

@Of course M wouldn't go into the field. M is in control of 00's and needs to remain in the dark as much as possible. Why in the world would she go into the field considering her age and that she has 13 00's to handle dangerous missions and carry out intelligence gathering?
@DaltonCraig007 Saying M screw over Craig's films is baseless, especially concerning CR. Great acting, great plot, great opening theme, great Bond girl, great locales and supporting characters. I can somewhat agree with QoS in some places but it isn't all bad at all. Many scenes strike in my mind and keep the movie alive. M isn't the problem with a so called disappointing Craig outing and saying the films are bad is outlandish. Like the stress put on EON to do a good CR followup wasn't enough. What if Bond 23 blows the socks off of Craig's 2? What will be the reason to leave the series then? May not seem possible to beat CR but I've been surprised too many times by Bond to doubt the possibility. Don't leave the franchise for "rubbish". I am a massive Connery fan and hate watching Moore yell like Tarzan, dress like a clown, or try to be suave. Just because I don't like Moore's run doesn't mean I hate him or would've quit the franchise because of him. He is overall a great actor and he did great as Bond, but I like a more suave dangerous Bond. A lot of the series's films stick out as gold and each have problems of their own, but still remain classic and fun to watch. We all have our favorites and least favorites but Bond will always be Bond, and that should always be enough, no matter who plays him.

Well, @haserot, Dench is one of the many problems I have with Craig's CR and QOS. OK, maybe not MAIN problem, but ONE of them... ;;)

I want a love scene in B23 between Bond and M - M becomes pregnant - so she has to leave the service and her husband. Bond jnr is born and grows up in the West Indies. Meanwhile Bond senior fights off Q agents to protect His son's identity. He finally kills off the entire organisation, retires and joins M in the West Indies, where they make hot sweaty sordid love night and day; they even do it with tongues. Bond senior realises he can't satisfy M's needs and leaves with his son to the arctic where he meets a disenchanted Quantum IT agent who refers to himself as Q - he is played by Jean Claude Van Damme or Hugh Laurie.

Q, Bond senior and junior become friends. Q is taken by junior and teaches him what he knows. Years pass until one day Bond Senior is killed whilst Polar Bear wrestling.

Q knows what he must do and takes Bond junior back to England where he introduces him to M's family; M passed away before Bond Senior, she suffered a heart attack while she was making sweaty sordid love to a Moray eel.

M's family take Q and junior in. Junior eventually joins MI6 and becomes a 00. Q also joins and rises to top to head their tech division.

And we start B24 with a reboot and introduce a new younger Bond played by Henry C.

Oh by the way, they won't kill off M - Dench and DC come as a pair.

Let's go for a wrinkly Bond film.

I want a film where Bond is 57 years old, M is 64 years old, Moneypenny is 58 years old and Q is 71 years old....oh wait....that was AVTAK.

Moore, Maxwell, Brown, Llewelyn, McNee: 312 years in total, with an average age of 62,4...
  • I would not mind having the current M around for the next couple of Bond films, though. I am under the impression now that her leaving may be likely, but has yet to be confirmed, right? So if Dench is willing to play M even when approaching her 100th birthday — fine! Let her do it!

Well — maybe my opinion does not count. Guys, I even liked "Quantum of Solace" …

There are some here who like Die Another Day.... who cares lol.... like what you want to like.

to me that's the beauty of the Bond franchise - it's been around for so long, that there is something there for everyone... very few film franchises can say that about themselves.

I respect Dench as an actress and her part in the 007 series can only be applauded. I do hope she gets a decent sendoff, which she deserves in my humble opinion.

I have always found the discussion if M should be a man and thus better a load of rubbish and the territory of insecure boys. The part of M has been always done excellently we can only hope that the next performer is as good as we have had so far.

    Nice little exclusive PP!

    Ah yes... the excitement.

The script makes all the difference too. If DC says its fantastic, then you can take his word for it. Nice to hear about an October shooting. Wonder if there'll be some big news on the 1st Oct (my birthday)?!

On a slightly different note... the snippets of info from DC are always interesting. Sometimes he can be a sarcy git (No tux in CR), but often he'll be at the centre of things and so can always provide some of the most valuable information to us Bond fans.

Sure, it's good to hear... But honestly, do you really think Craig will come up and say the script is rubbish ? Craig said the QOS script was fantastic as well... I don't fall for PR stuff. Craig said the script was fantastic because he was told to do so. I judge the film on the end product, not on some PR stunt. Honestly, the day Craig will say 'the script is horrible', THEN it will have an affect on me and I will worry... When he says the script is 'fantastic', it does nothing to me - it's just PR. It's possible to find quotes from Brosnan that the script for the upcoming DAD film is 'fantastic'.

    Thank you again @PanchitoPistoles.

I like the idea of October filming. Maybe some Pinewood work will be done first before the cast and crew jet off the India?

When should an actual start date for filming be revealed?

Lots of news it seems for a July round-up MI6, come the end of the month. ;-)

Possible but doubtful. It's not EON's style.

I love Judi Dench's M, but M has been far too important in recent Bonds. In the books and the earlier films, M appeared purely so Bond knew what he was doing. That's it. 007 was on his own from there on in. Having M show up here there and everywhere make it seem like she's holding his hand!

    (ps: Love yah, Jude!)

M is supposed to be present. He/she has legion of 00 agents and what they do are his/her responsibility. Why wouldn't M pop in to check in, like a boss for a REAL intelligence agency would do. If one screw up is had, its their career. M's increased screen time makes the films more realistic, which is what the Craig films have instilled so far.

I agree with what you say except for the part of M always being done excellently...I never really liked Robert Brown's M. Bernard Lee was incredible and I can't see him ever being equalled but Dench is great too. But Brown...I found him adequate at best, and he wasn't always at his best...

Why not ? She was kidnapped in TWINE. And given how much screentime they give her in each film, I doubt she will retire quietly into the night. There will be a major scene for her last film... and I bet it will be her death.
I just think it would be a bad idea. Not unless the story calls for M to die. Killing her off for the sake of it - or worse, because the fans want it to happen - will only needlessly take time in the film.
