Controversial opinion: the fewer suits Bond is wearing, the better. This is 2015, it's possible to be stylish and elegant without resorting to suits.

I can't agree with this at all. Society is way too casual today. People don't know how to dress. Besides, in the books, Bond has a timeless elegance.

I've just looked at the Rome photo call photos and all I can say is that I sincerely hope Craig won't be wearing this striped tie nor have a handkerchief in his pocket in the film. A small strip is fine but a handkerchief sticking out in a triangular fashion like this is too fancy for James Bond. I don't like how Mendes had Bond wearing a scarf in Skyfall either like how he does. This is too wimpy for Bond. I don't like when authors or directors stamp in part of their own style on Bond. Deaver had Bond wearing a burgundy tie in Carte Blanche! Bond would never wear this colour.
  • Fellow agents - Mon Dieu, I'm afraid I can't vote for this one.
Frankly, aside from the fabric, everything is wrong.
A 'DB' is not right for either the 007 character or Craig's physique. They tend to suit a tall, less muscular torso. Furthermore, it just doesn't fit.
A pointed collar is also just plain wrong for somebody with Daniel's angular, narrow face. He'd be a natural for a spread or semi spread collar.
Beyond that, the tie looks cheap, the pocket square shouldn't exist and this is one of the few colour choices that doesn't work with brown suede shoes.
All in all, it makes me wonder what the hell is going on - it makes me wonder if they aren't trying to turn him into some sort of 'Pitti Uomo Peacock'?
They need to look at how Bill Nighy wears a blue suit and get him down to A&S without further ado!
Conversely, the clothes from 'The Man From Uncle 2015' are looking amazing!

There is a rumour on the production thread that this is Craig's personal gear, as he was seen wearing the same outfit at a social gathering some time back. If so, we won't see it in SP.

I'm almost positive it is since he was photographed about 3 years ago in it.

Given it's a photocall I'm not sure all the fuss, it's a good look for that. The histronics over the pocket square are amusing though.

I don't love it, becuase the suit is a little ill fitting, but I like the aesthetic overall.
  • I'm excited about the wardrobe and unlike one poster, the more suits the better. That's the whole point of Bond, he's debonaire. He wears a suit quite well, too.

    Thank the spy Gods!

Aside from the point collar (I really don't understand why they've gone in that direction) I like it.

I think the point collar is alright.

    Really like that last pic.

Question: do we have any image of Waltz in character?

Craig looks amazing in these latest on set photos, and I'm saying this as someone who dislikes suits.

The buttons are about the fly off the waistcoat like a fat guy with too small pants.

    That's no accident. It's 2015.
  • I disagree. I think Craig looks fantastic. I understand people's gripes with his tight suits but I feel that the suits not only look fantastic on him but are totally justified.

Suits are pretty drab and dull things and are often associated with businessmen or anyone with 9-5 jobs. Bond therefore has a slight chore in trying to stay a cut above and elevating the suit and making it look glamourous.

The suits are tight because that is the fashion these days. The fit looks cool and modern. Secondly, the way the suits fit Craig almost make them appear to be something of a second skin, they are not suits in the traditional sense but more costumes. He looks more muscular and intimidating in them. The suit to Bond is what the cape and cowl is to Batman, they are transformative. Craig looks like a thug cultivated to be a gentleman and you always get the sense that a beast is lurking beneath the veneer of that elegant Tom Ford tailoring.

    Look at the suit here:

Craig had yet to find his feet with Bond here and it almost looks like he's borrowed some of Brosnan's suits from the 90's.

There is something more sexy and threatening about his suits in SF:
    normal_Skyfall_1848.jpg

I think a large part of this comes down to performance. Craig's Bond in CR is a rookie and as such he is initially uncomfortable in the role and in turn the clothes. However, by SF, he is a seasoned vet and much more relaxed and at ease. The irony of course is that this arc directly reflects Daniel Craig's tenure and growth in the part.

Skin tight suits are definitely not what fashion leaders are in right now. It's about 5 years behind the curve.

But that is distracting from the main issue which is they don't fit, and people are getting the two concepts confused. You can make a tight shaped style that fits. These again just don't. It's slightly exacerbated by him striding though. Going shaped and narrow is fine, they just need to fit. The jacket is also about 2" too short, which just looks silly, and jodphur's with this suit makes zero sense.

I've always followed the basic guidelines on suitery. Pleated pants are best for someone with a mid to larger body, because they sit at the waist and provide more crotch room. Flat front pants sit at the hips and provide less critical roominess. Cuffs should only be worn on flat front pants if it's a heavier wool or blend, so preferably during fall/winter. I prefer a higher cut vest, exposing less tie. You never wear a tux with cuffed pants. And any cut of suit which allows the bottom of the tie is terrible.

Just as an aside, if you watch the opening sequence of Skyfall and you see Bond with somewhat extended arms and slim waist, it reminded of the aliens in 'Close Encounters'. Freaky.

Regarding the CR vs SF contrast photos above. The former is Brioni, which is why it looks like Brozza's wares.

RE: the SP photo above - I don't know what these guys are thinking. Peak lapels on a single breasted with double pockets? This is not Bond. This is not classic imo. This will not date well, and sadly it does not fit well all that well either..

Looks like he's wearing a tab collar again, like in SF. Once more, not my favourite.

    Just my two cents.

I'm alright with the SBPL. It's a pretty common thing, especially in Britain. Doing a ticket pocket with on straight pockets looks odd though, it generally goes with slant pockets better.

I think he looks fantastic here - smart, stylish, Bondian! Love the waistcoat with the suit jacket, the pocket square, the leather gloves, the smart boots!

This film is going to look stunning! Maybe even an academy award for best costume design nod...
