But You know what they say: deutsche Sprache, schwere Sprache. Nonetheless, I like it as well . . .

    ;)

Edit: Huh? Now, give me break -- German language titled discs? That box is from Germany? Need to get to a store to check -- is this a case of a happy pre-release accident that occured wide-spread?

Don't worry, it's most likely the German release. The "standard" reg. 2 release has to have English titles ;)

Oh, I think You got me wrong: I live in Germany and I was thinking that whoever took shots of his German Blu-ray box may have picked it up from a store that put it on shelves by error -- a potential "happy pre-release accident", You see? And if that occured at a store that is part of a chain, for example, chances are this happened in more than one location.

But I do not actually think that is likely -- just speculation and wishful thinking . . !

    ;)

I don't see what all the fuss is about with Blu Ray, just seems more expensive and not for much difference. I bought a BR player and to be honest, even though the Rambo boxset was f*cking awesome, I wish I'd stuck with my old DVD player.

Anyway, I've got all the UE DVDs and the CR/QOS DVDs, so I won't bother buying this boxset. I do like the tour idea though.

really, i have blu-ray and its 1000 times better than dvd. You have to get new blu ray films that are made for blu ray to notice it. full 1080p , its amazing clear as a photo.

But upgrading all the bond films to blu ray will still look great. Also, it is a 50th anniversary edition. mine has been sent today.

I was just wondering, on the Special Disc is the videoblogs the ones that are released or is it some material that hasn't been released on the internet but is on the disc?

I guess it depends I've heard those who say they can't tell the difference but as someone who is a fully signed up member of the Blu ray club and has been for the last 3 years I would hugely disagree.

Blu ray for me far outstrips DVD, it's night and day, check out the likes of The Alien set, more recently Jaws. To me I get more excited about back cat releases on BR than new releases, the level of restoration work done on Criterion Blu rays is incredible and the shots I've see of the new Indiana Jones set leave the DVD looking pale and out of focus.

As I said you are entitled to your opinion and if the picture being clear and sharp isn't that much a thing or you don't want old films to look like they did on original theatrical release or better then maybe it won't wow you like some of us.

I think Blu ray has been misunderstood, we've already had a considerable upgrade with VHS to DVD no denying that but Blu ray is for the true cinemaphile and I've seen too much evidence of the superior upgrade of the format to accept this statement and I felt compelled to reply to such a comment as I am confused by such a statement and there are so much better example than Rambo to prove that Blu ray blows DVD away.

  • Couple of things to make sure of when you use a Blu-Ray player:

    - Using an HD-tv (Might sound obvious, but I've heard cases of people having BRP's on old Tv-sets, and then indeed you don't see the difference, also HD-ready TV's will give a lesser picture then Full HD)
    - Connect it with your Tv via HDMI-cable (otherwise you don't get full HD)
    - Check if your Tv is transfering the picture @ 1080p. Mine wasn't originally.

If you do all that, the picture should blow DVD straight out of the water. It did with mine, especially indeed on older movies. Some of them look down right shitty on DVD (The Rock, Lethal Weapon, M:I2, Reservoir Dogs) and then look great on BR.
The Bond's really feel like new films on BR, such a good job on the transfer. Especially FYEO had me enjoying it like I was watching it for the first time.

I would have personally thought it was a given that you have a full HD TV, I will confess due to my budget that to start with I had a HD ready set and I saw an upgrade from DVD but it is only with a full HD set can you truly appreciate this format which for me is the definitive format to enjoy cinema in your home.

I seriously think that due to the fact that you can play DVD's on Blu ray players that manufacturers should phase out the bog standard DVD players and only produce Blu ray players it would be the definitive way to make sure that people convert when they need a new player and you can pick up a new BR player so cheap, I just bought a multi region full ABC free LG player on Ebay for £75, a player without the upgrade can be purchased for as cheap as £30 without too much shopping around, anyone who said they had a player and then said they went back to their DVD as they didn't see the point clearly need an education in the format.

Maybe I've been watching the wrong films or something, but there are times when I really can't see the difference, or I think the difference wasn't worth getting a BR player for.

I am getting the Indiana Jones boxset on Blu Ray, but I don't have The Last Crusade or Crystal Skull on DVD. I don't see the point in getting Bond because I heard there aren't any new special features or anything, and I just don't think it's worth the money when I have 23 perfectly good DVDs (Ultimate Edition DVDs, NSNA, CR/QOS).

The quality is much better, but I agree, not enough to blow you out of the water. But the sad thing is that the BRs have all the special features on them, while the DVDS get stuck with two teaser trailers and a gallery of photos if we are lucky.

When some say they cannot see any different, i think they are eaither blind, or there set up is wrong. If you get a fill HD tv and a newish blu ray film, you will simply be blown away. I COULD NEVER GO BACK TO A DVD AGAIN. I HAVENT WATCHED A DVD FOR YEARS, BLU RAY ALL THE WAY!!

dvds play on blu ray players because they upscale them. Its not enough to hd quality, but they supposed to make your dvd better quality. The only way you can experience the best of blu ray is to get a new film. Casino Royale is amazing on blu ray. its crisp, and i cannot even see any grain on my tv. its stunning. I have a LD LED 37".

Some blu rays might look poor, But thats because they was transfered poor. So that might be why some say they cannot tell any difference. They are many blu ray films out there with a bad transfer. I cannot stand dvds anymore. The grain is unbarable. Its like watching a dodgy pirate copy or something. I am just used to blu ray, thats why.

When I first got Dr No blu-ray, I did a like to like comparison, the UE DVD in my Harmon Kardon DVD player vs the blu-ray via the Pioneer BD-320 player. The difference was amazing, and the HK was even upscaled, so a slightly better picture that the standard 561 lines from DVD. I can only imagine if you can't notice the difference either you have a tv screen size less than 32 inch (at the size and below I don't think the difference is descernible), or you set up is not up to scratch. Also check your Output Resolution on the DB player is set to 'source direct' - this will give you full 1080p at 24f.
I can home once and the kids were watching the second Nanny McPhee film and it looked awful - I later found out that they change to output resolution to that of a video player, about 480 lines!
So looking forward to Bond50 - not long to wait now (rubs hands in glee).
p.s. although DAD is quite a bad Bond, the picture quality on the DVD is amazing so the blu-ray should be awesome.

I have a feeling that some say there's no difference simply because they don't want to update their 1000+ DVD movies collection ;) And that the blu-ray covers don't match DVDs, making the collection look bad.

It's not grain that makes a bad blu-ray, the best blu-rays maintain the original grain structure. The problem with DVDs is the poor resolution and colour reproduction.
