Why don't they include some extra stuff as well like a poster or james bond postcards of all the jb actors or something.
They don't know how to celebrate 50 years of bond properly.
1) No events in Australia or anywhere else in the world for that matter. Except for the Lazenby appearance thing which is not EON.
2) The box set which is just the UE in HD. Whats the bet all of the special features are still in standard definition? At least they fixed Goldeneye but all the new stuff looks pretty bad. Half the videoblogs aren't even on it and it sounds like they have put almost no effort into it. At least I bought it reasonably cheap but i think we can all see a new set coming out in 5 years.
3) The doco so far is only watchable in the UK or US and even then you have to pay in the UK rather than free in the US.
4) The fact that that is about it. There is almost nothing to celebrate.
Lets hope the movie is fantastic.
Hahaha I don't think it's that serious, but yeah it sucks that they would be that lazy.
In any case I'm looking forward to the new blu-rays. When the original 11 came out I convinced myself that there was no point in buying them since I already had the UE, especially only half of the series. However, that was before I had a Blu-ray player (other than my laptop) and having purchased the Star Wars and M-I BR sets I decided I had to get this set. It's a real bargain compared to my UE set at $150 for 22 movies at BR quality compared to $200 for 20 DVD's.
Those screenshot comparisons are absolutely amazing especially since they're being compared to the already digitally enhanced/remastered DVD versions.
My only gripe so far is the packaging. I think the book format is pretty cool, but (aside from the book cover) the art is lacking. The discs couldn't possibly be any more bland. They should have definitely used stylized titles and cover art on the discs, or put them on the pages opposite the discs instead of the boring scene montages. One of my favorite things about the UE sets was the awesome covers, which I never got tired of looking at.
The previous blu-ray Bonds I've had the special feature have been in high-def, unlike the StarWars blu-ray which all the extras that I've looked at have been standard def - piss poor George.
I am looking forward to watching these films in high def, especially OHMSS and TLD and LTK (already had DN, FRWL, GF, TB).
Please put it in spoiler tags (or give only the pic's URL) for those of is who want to experience it themselves when they get the box set.
Maybe EON should have released a 2 tier box set one like this, more of the same and some new stuff then also a deluxe one with stacks of new supplements. I'm personally happy the price I paid and the UE's had plenty of docs etc that I go back to from time to time to watch so getting them again is no problem to me.
It comes down to whether the bonus is more important than the main feature, if as a blu ray player owner having top notch transfers, in most cases far superior to any home version before is enough? I'm hearing to much noise about cardboard and new features can someone just please tell me if OHMSS & SWLM looks as good as those comparrison web sites are making out, as the difference for me looks considerable, the sharpening of the picture, the colours, the detail, I can't wait.
Maybe I've just been a Blu ray purchaser for too long but I can't believe the UE's look that bad now, sometimes there are transfers on Blu where you seen not much upscale but on those 2 mentioned I see it considerably. I recently bought a region A locked Angel Heart and I've never seen the film looks so good, it was like watching it for the first time.
I've had friends wanting to know why I would want b/w films on Blu ray, I recently bought on Criterion Anatomy For Murder, Twelve Angry Men & Wings Of Desire also Warner's exceptional treatment of Citizen Kane and I know completely why I want B/W on Blu. As with these Bond films when the restoration work is done right the difference is night and day. From what I've seen of the Indy box, watching ROTLA is going to be like viewing it for the first time, I never saw it on the big screen for some reason or other (my Parents have allot to answer for). So it''s been on Terrestrial, VHS & DVD and the new set looks like such an upgrade I'm literally giddy with excitement to see it. I think if I hadn't caught Jaws back in June at the cinema I would have been even more impressed with the Blu ray although it looks gorgeous I had seen it already and on the big screen.
Maybe down the line we'll get something more deluxe or even for the release of Skyfall but for me this will more than suffice, quite a few of these films I was not going to buy on blu ray but due to the value for money this offered, the ten or so I wanted would have worked out more expensive than buying whenever they appear individually so now I've got the Pierce era if I choose to subject myself to that at any point. I've actually mellowed I've decided I am going to watch all 22 again most likely for the last time in a few cases, get a chance to view them on the best possible home format.
I quite like the Bond50 packaging and for around £4 a film I'm not complaining. Just want the bally thing here now!
Yeah, I just got it after posting - have removed it now. Brain's a bit slow at the moment!
I got the same email today from amazon.uk. I have the item shipping to France so I never thought that I would recieve it the day it was released...however I am pretty sure it will arrive before next Friday as other items I have ordered from them have always arrived before the estimated delivery date given in their emails...
The first reviews of the blurays that I have found...
only a slight overview with more in depth reviews of the new to bluray to come...however there are numerous screenshots to check out the quality...
Your naive faith in EON would be touching in a child of three.
What occasion precisely is going to justify a more deluxe set than this? Are you talking the 100th now?
If they only knock out a botch job like this for the 50th then why for the release of SF (in about 6 months time) would they suddenly re-release a much better box set?
Anyway I'm happy for you that for the 50th you are so easily pleased by a vanilla box set of the films that we should have had about 5 years ago anyway.
And in 50 more years time our cataracts will insure many of us don't get to enjoy the films. ;)
I'm sure that's what EON are banking on. Just release the same set again and either our vision will have gone or we'll be too senile to notice them shafting us once more.
Its on Amazon my friend, same design but dvds sit in one big plastic case. I would post a link but im looking at it on amazon app. Oh its also not out until 2nd October. All single discs as per individual releases.
Goldeneye does look pretty bad. Very little detail visible, faces look quite waxy.
No, it is out on Monday. I would contact them and tell them. A preorder means to get it on release day. If you dont, why preorder. Amazon can be disapointing at times. Play.com are more reliable, with my shopping experience
So it isn't with the books like for the Blu Ray edition?
To be honest it was just a suggestion I very much doubt they will but unlike you I'm not bothered, what possibly could they add to the exhaustive content of the UE's it's not like they held back with those?
The doc EON will no doubt have plenty of fresh and more candid material in it, yes I agree with you that we aren't getting this for free like our American friends and I would have thought Sky had secured the rights to broadcast it but nothing has been confirmed by them yet. I'm sure it will get a home format release by the blu ray/dvd release of SF.
Companies like EON will be ripping off for as long as they come and all the bitching and complaining will not make a jot of difference, I'm not expecting to shell out again, I sold by UE's and got a good price and I figure £90 is a fair price for 22 films in HD.
Because the company producing the boxsets are lazy.
I'm not complaining about being ripped off. I've bought VHS, VHS widescreen, SE DVD, UE DVD versions of the films and am fully aware I'm a mug but I don't mind that as long as I think I'm getting something.
What I'm complaining about is EON think that just the blurays in a box is enough - and for people like you that is, which is fair enough.
But for the 50th anniversary some of us want something special. I'm quite happy for them to do a basic set for the likes of you and then for another £50 on top a special deluxe collectors set like what has been done with Indy.
The thing that is so annoying is I'm totally ready to give EON a HUGE F**KING WAD OF MONEY for the 50th but I'm not going to do
it for free. But they seem totally incapable of making the slightest effort to persuade me to open my wallet.
