Guys, You will not believe what I just did: I pre-ordered "The spy who loved me" and "On her Majesty's secret service" -- on blu-ray: individually released, for 10.45 EUR each, and available on November 7 . . !

These are not the US store exclusives. They will be available in a European country. All titles are offered -- each and everyone of them.

I could tell You where to buy -- but why don't You find out Yourself first? Wanna be a spy? Then track down those blu-rays! One hint: they will be offered in a country that did not get a release of the Bond 50 blu-ray box . . !

    ;)

Maybe I will tell You later -- if You don't find out Yourself . . !

I still have no idea when there will be a UK/Germany/France release of the titles -- however, I am looking foreward to watching my all-time favorite Bond movie ("The spy who loved me") on Blu-ray less than a month from now!

    Mitico!

    ;)

    Hint, hint . . .

What are you going on about? Stop winking at me.

  • Guys, I got my Brosnan era blu-ray box -- and what a box it is. The four discs came in shrinkwrapped individual Amaray blu-ray cases with French cover sheets featuring the 50th anniversary re-design. The discs themselves have French writing and look exactly like the ones in the Bond 50 Box.

Quicker than a Greek protester can say, "Merkel go home", I checked out "Goldeneye" and "Tomorrow never dies" -- and was quite impressed. There's normal grain in "Tomorrow never dies" -- but the wax effect in "Goldeneye" was not quite as apparent to me as I had feared. Maybe, it is because I "merely" have an HD ready TV set and watch my films in 1080i instead of 1080p.

While the writing on the high-gloss box and on the individual cover sheets say that French and English language tracks are available, both "Goldeneye" and "Tomorrow never dies" featured Spanish, German and Portuguese as well -- astonishing, wouldn't You say? I did not check the other two discs yet.

Finally -- after all those years! New Bond blu-rays!

Glad to hear that you finally got your Brosnan Blu Bonds...and glad that you are happy with how GE looked (despite the DNR)...

OK, OK. It is Italy! Hence, "Mitico!" -- which means "brilliant" or "smashing" . . !

Can You believe that? The Italians get their full range of individual Bond blu-rays on November 7. I was completely surprised when I found that out -- I had never heard about that. Did anyone? The Italian Amazon has them all online and available for pre-order. I do not really speak Italian, but somehow, I maneuvered through the ordering process . . .

    =D>

Shipping is a flat 7 EUR to Germany, Great Britain, or France. Other countries are listed here:

I got MR last night on blu-ray for about $8.50, and it'll arrive by Friday. Waiting for the three Best Buy exclusives, then I have the whole blu-ray set.

Great movie, superb blu-ray. I bet You will enjoy it very much . . !

  • My local Walmart still has no Bond blu rays at all and have no idea when they will get some. Including the set.

Are new Blu ray menus different then ones of a 1st edition?

NO. The menus are the same. The CR menu is now the same as all previously released Blurays but the QOS menu is the same as the original bluray release. This is the only bluray that doesn't have the same menu as the 21 other discs.

I took about a thirty minute trip to Wal-Mart on the day the films released, and they had a huge display in the electronics aisle with the box set, the UE DVD's, and the UE blu-rays. The other three Wal-Mart's I've visited since then don't carry any of them - some miscellaneous UE DVD's, but that's it - yet all of them show marketing (and trailers on the TV's on display) for the box set/films that are available, just not in their stores, for some reason.

Just check walmart.com, all of them are on there.

For those of you still wondering if to upgrade your UE DVD's to far better BluRay versions here is another review of the problematic GE BluRay from highdefdigest. While the transfer and image quality is far better than the DVD version this is still an unacceptable transfer for a Bluray disc. Considering the quality of the rest of the discs they should have spent a bit more time sorting this one out.

And here are some new reviews from AVforums which also includes a negative review of the GE transfer.

A very interesting read, indeed. While I can confirm much of what the reviewer writes, it is like I said: for me watching it in 1080i on an 80 cm screen, the pitfalls of the "Goldeneye" blu-ray did not come through too blatantly. However, I can imagine that with 1080p on a bigger screen, it should look definitely worse.

Hm -- why could they not pick "Diamonds are forever" or "Licence to kill" to have that glitch . . ?

I just got off the phone with a very nice customer service employee from Best Buy, who gave me a hearty list of helpful information:

1.) They currently have all three UE exclusive blu-rays in stock: OHMSS, TSWLM, and YOLT.
2.) Each film comes with one ticket voucher for SF.
3.) The films are only $9.99 a piece.
4.) If you trade in one old DVD to a blu-ray that is $9.99 and up, you receive $5 off that blu-ray.

So, if you follow that last step, in the end, you will receive all three Best Buy UE exclusive blu-rays, plus three ticket vouchers for SF, for a mere $14.99. What a steal.

Does anyone know if the re-releases of QOS and CR on Blu-ray will have matching spines as to the rest of the single releases? If not, it'd be kind of pointless to sell my current copy of Casino Royale.

I just saw both of those at Wal-Mart last night for $9.99 a piece. The only difference in the covers is that the '007' logo on the front is in gold, and yes, the spines did appear to match: white colored font with the MGM logo towards the bottom. My copies of FRWL, TWINE, DAD, CR, and, QoS are not the UE copies, so it irks me seeing them look different. But, my OCD can't warrant spending an extra $50.

They know what they are doing with Goldeneye, it is slated to get a standalone steelbook release and I reckon low and behold all issues will have been rectified to force a double dip!

The Goldeneye blu ray is hideous.

What's wrong with it? Please elaborate. I was under the impression many of the issues were fixed with this release.

@OwenDavian, it was, because I went in there (after many different confirmations that it was out), and she "regretted to inform me" that they cannot release the films until the 23rd. But, I traded in my three old DVD's and will still receive all three of the blu-rays for $15 total on Tuesday.

@MrBond, no. They both looked like the current covers that have been out for some time for the blu-rays, only the 007 logo is in gold.

Where did you order it from?
  • Amazon.com marketplace...my guess is that someone bought the box set and is selling them individually...which is fine by me because OHMSS is the one Bond film I really want on Bluray.

Was it around $25? The last time I checked for the Best Buy exclusives randomly on Amazon, I saw one for around that price, but that was it. You would have been better off picking it up for $5-$10 at Best Buy itself.

they don't look hd films 1-20 the only diff i noticed was the dts hd 5.1 audio. i heard there was a 3-disc collector's edition of CR back in 2008 i think. i know QOS in the bond 50 blu-ray set is just a re-release of the original blu-ray release. is it true that ALL bonus material from the ultimate collection for films 1-20 are included with the respective films in the set? and has anyone noticed the price got cheaper AFTER it came out?

I bought the box set from Amazon, basically because I mostly wanted all the movies on blu-ray and in one place. Also because I'm lazy and didn't want to track down all the different discs/sets.

Had a chance to review most of the stuff the past two weeks and I'm left with this:

    1) The bonus disc is an absolute joke. And by joke, I mean insult to all us die-hard fans. Would it have been so hard to put together a few mini-documentaries, historical overviews, etc? There's nothing on the bonus disc that is worth watching or that we haven't seen before. I plan on tossing this disc and using the slot for Bond 24 blu-ray.

    2) Some of the bonus stuff on each movies' disc are pretty cool. But you have to put each disc in your player and select from that menu to see what the features are. There's no booklet or menu to find what features are on which disc. Again, how hard would it have been to include a booklet that included a menu of what exactly is on each disc? It seems they've given us the absolute minimum they could get away with.

    3) The picture and sound are great. They really did a fantastic job and every disc is a huge improvement from the DVD's - especially the older entries.

Overall, I'm satisfied. But remember I'm not an avid collector or one of these guys who spend countless hours pouring over every bonus featurette or examining the clarity of the picture in microscopic detail. I just like to enjoy the films and watch the occational bounus feature. So all I really wanted was all the Bond flicks on blu-ray, and in one easy-to-store box set. And that's what I got. Unfortunately, that's ALL I got.

i was thinking the same thing with no booklet listing all the special features but since films 1-20 have the same special features as the ue collector's dvds set and if u already have that one, u know what u are getting with it. but me, i only was able to get vol 1 of the box sets.
