Has anyone watched the new featurettes? Usually when movies get re-issued on blu-ray, new featurettes are nothing more than fluff pieces with minimal substance. Is that the case with the ones in the new set? I'd love to be proven wrong, to be honest.

Is anyone picking up the new set this week? Since I already own the Bond 50 set I'll be skipping this one. Truth be told, I'm still a little curious to know about the new featurettes. How long are they? Are they well made and informative or merely fluff/promotional pieces? Also, is Everything or Nothing on blu-Ray or DVD?

I will do a detailed review of the new JB Collection box on Blu-ray in approx 7-8 hours.
  • Having the full SE DVD collection and the Bond 50 blu rays I have no intention of buying again. The Bond 50 blu rays were awesome, apart from a couple of things which should be sorted out:

    - Some of the title sequences were windowboxed and slightly distorted.
    - The 5.1 remixes are great, except where they've actually added/changed sounds from the original mix - the music in the Gumbold safe-cracking scene in OHMSS is supposed to build until it's blaring out increasing the tension as Gumbold returns, not so in this new 5.1 mix
  • Also it would be better if they redid all the 'Inside' documentaries so that they are all 16:9
  • i agree Birdleson, there was also some anomalies, trailers are on SE edition of DAD but not on the blu ray.

I'm holding out until Craig is finished with Bond to get another "complete" collection. Could be as soon as this upcoming film, but maybe one more as well.

Attention: The US Version of this set doesn't feature the book nor the EoN documentary

Review of the James Bond Collection Blu-ray Box set that was released this week:

In this new set there are all 23 Bond movies from Dr. No to Skyfall plus one Bonus Disc.
The design of the Blu-rays are all the same, as you'll see from one photograph below.
There is a white sleeve around the solid black box which holds the Blu-rays. It's nicely designed with the imprinted names of all 23 James Bond movies.

While it's nowhere as beautiful as the Bond 50 box it's certainly handy.

There is a book(let) 52-pages with really nice poster art and description in it. Again see the photographs for examples.

Sadly, the Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall Blu-rays are identical with the initial releases. Meaning there are the useless trailers for movies like Valkyrie, The Day The Earth Stood Still or A Good Day To Die Hard on it. Shame. Also the menu designs are the same and not fitting all the menu designs from Dr. No to Casino Royale. Shame again.

The special features on QOS and SF are the same as on the initial release.

    The Bonus Disc is spectacular!!

It contains: all in Full HD

    - Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story Of 007, 98 minutes
    - *Designing 007: 50 Years Of Bond Style
    - *Being Bond
    - *World of Bond Featurettes:
Titles Sequences (one hour long!), Gadgets, Villains, Bond Girls, Locations, Bond in motion
    - The Shadow of Spectre, 10 minutes brand new featurette!
    - The Story so far, 9 minute brand new featurette!

*already released in the Bond 50 box

Here are photos I've taken of the thing:

Thanks for the update. Maybe just one question:
Yay or nay regarding the two new featurettes? As in, are they the very least interesting or just marketing nonsense?

Interesting, I picked up the same box set and I didn't get the book or the Everything or Nothing movie. :(

I happend to buy mine at a Best Buy. Maybe other stores carry different sets. Had I known that the book and documentary could be part of it I would've looked around to find it.

I'm sorry to hear that. It seems the US Version is different and doesn't have the book or the EoN documentary.
Frankly I find that rather idiotic, why do they market that box so differently in the various regions.

Watched them: both have Purvis and Wade explaining things with lots of movie footage.
One tells the story from CR to SF which is a nice feature, something like a "last week on..." thing.
The other shows the detailed history of Spectre from Dr.No to DAF.
After seeing that it doesn't make any sense to me that DN was not included in those "Spectre" steelbooks.
There is no footage of SP in those documentaries. I like them.

Weren't the docs supposed to be on the U.S. steel book editions, too? My copy of CR didn't have a code for that specifically.

I wonder if the Canadian box set will have Everything or Nothing doc... sounds like it probably won't. For me, this would be a huge selling point.
I won't be buying it either way, however.

I am celebrating!! <:-P I just received The James Bond Collection on Blu ray for my 21st Birthday \m/

The first thing I did was tear up a piece of paper into 23 pieces, write 1 to 23 on them and pick one out at random. Just my luck, I got number 11 #-o :))

So I sat down and put on moonraker , the eleventh film. Let me tell you, I was blown away at the quality of this transfer!! =D>

I always thought Moore was still young enough in MR, turns out I was wrong. In HD, you can see every wrinkle and sag in sir Rogs face! :))

I can't imagine what he will look like when I get round to number 14!! :D

Seeing how good Moonraker looks on bluray just gets me excited to watch the old classics like FRWL and GF!! :)

This is one satisfied Bond fan with on recommended Bluray set. Now I'm off to watch SPECTRE.... ;)

I have the VHS-series from Dr No to DAD, Special Edition DVD`s from DN to DAD, Ultimate Edition DVD`s from DN to DAD, Casino Royale 2-disc DVD, Casino Royale 3-disc Deluxe Edition DVD, Casino Royale single Blu-Ray disc, The Bond 50 Blu-Ray Collection, Skyfall single Blu-Ray, NSNA single Blu-Ray and 1967 Casino Royale DVD plus some old VHS`s that contain documentaries and film recordings from TV etc.

Do I miss something? Is there absolutely any reason for me to purchase this brand new "luxury" collection of Blu-Ray´s? Can you convince me to do it :))

Right now I´m waiting for tonight´s Spectre premiere here in Finland, this waiting is killing me!!

    @Mendes4Lyfe Happy Birthday!
Moonraker is one of the best looking blurays because it is scanned in 4k. The PTS is crystal clear. I can't wait till you get to watch DN-DAF. Amazing quality.

@JNO Are you talking about the new steelbooks?

@Ed83 Yes and that new James Bond Blu-Ray Collection Box (which was mentioned earlier in this topic with some pictures of it)?

Of course I can read about them by myself but I was curious to read some user reviews...

@JNO I would say if you already have Bond 50 Bluray then there is not going to be much incentive to buy the new bluray collection other than the Digital HD copies. The steelbooks are more for simply collecting to display. They look amazing compared to the regular covers.

I wanted the steelbooks, but I've spent so much damn money on Bond DVD's and Blurays its ridiculous. I'll wait until the next upgrade to 4k comes around before I sink any more money into a new Bond collection. Except for Spectre of course! The good thing with the newer films is that you get a DVD, Bluray, and Digital copy all in one set for around $20 bucks.

Honestly, $12 bucks a pop for those steelbooks from Best Buy isn't bad at all. I think there was nine different choices. It could be a good investment for a future sell on ebay. I would definitely buy them if I had the extra money.

I think its standard operating procedure for a release of a brand new collection set just before the next new Bond film is released. You can set your watch by it from now on. It's the perfect time for them to push the collection out to new fans who haven't partaken yet.

@Ed83 Thank you, Sir! That same thought had occurred to my mind.

And that Bond 50 Blu-Ray-set was so damn expensive, I bought it straight away when it was released. But it is such a joy to watch those movies! Ultimate Edition DVD`s were very good also but Bond 50 is just in its own league.

Maybe I´ll wait for the next generation upgrades before I´m totally out of money.
  • I wish I could get them all on Digital. If anyone has a code they don't want :)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if they didn't streamline the menus/interactive portions of the latter titles in the new edition, then the whole thing is the exact same pressing as the 50th set from a couple years ago....which means they STILL haven't finished the remastering of the excellent Patrick MacKnee narrated documentaries.

    SHAME ON YOU SONY!

If I were litigious I'd start some sort of class action suit to get them done AND replace the discs in question for those of us who bought in prior.

James Bond Collection on Bluray - DN-SF $64.99 (Coupon code - PUMPKIN)
    https://www.foxconnect.com/james-bond-collection.html

Make sure you enter the coupon code to get $64.99

This seems to be a great deal and it would be a nice gift as well for Christmas if you need gift ideas. Not for sure if this includes Digital HD or not. If that's a deal breaker make sure to investigate that before purchase.

**I believe this only last today unfortunately, so if your interested pull the trigger now.**
