The original Dune was something of a boondoggle - earned $30 million on a $40 million budget, and that's back in 1984.
I'm surprised people want to throw money at remaking it, since the basic facts haven't changed: you'll likely have an expensive shoot, lots of FX, and a small market for a niche product.
Maybe they're hoping to capitalize on the Star Wars audience, but really, it's not a story that hooks a mass audience. Feels to me like it has the makings of a flop.
If they approach Dune like a David Lean epic (Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia), they'll be fine.
"In the past week 2 people have brought up the same rumor to me... #StarWars and #JamesBond are not currently scheduled to film in Georgia."
Is this the same rumour that was going round a month or so ago?
