I thought they tried to do a transition with SP to be honest, which adopted a more 'formulaic' and arguably 'lighter' Bond template. Unfortunately such transition was muddled and tonally incoherent at times, at least in my estimation, which is a shame. I can't see a transition to something even lighter with Craig in the saddle for B25, and that is why I remain a bit perplexed about how they will proceed for the next film, which is likely to be a 'stub' outing.
Unless they have decided to double down on Craig angst to close out his chapter as a self contained period before a more substantial change, which is also a possibility. If so, we can blame Logan for that.
Some members on this thread I've noticed have pointed out that MGM would not have paid so much money for the rights to SPECTRE and Blofeld to only have them return for the one outing and therefore Bond 25 will likely be a continuation of the story laid out in SP. I was wondering does anyone know exactly how much MGM paid for the rights from the McClory estate or is it just a natural assumption that the law suit and settlement must have cost them a substantial amount? I'm curious to this as I'm trying to gauge how likely it is that Bond 25 will follow on from SP as I tend to think its more likely it will actually be quite different from what we got last time.
Nothing new here. Various Bond films are constantly streaming on Amazon Prime.
Just imagine seeing a ton of big name directors casting actors like Aiden Turner, Hiddleston, Hardy, etc and doing their own take on Bond. That’d be amazing. It would make Bond popular again and more mainstream. Unfortunately James Bond just isn’t the same anymore popularity wise. Sure Skyfall grossed $1B and Spectre got close to it but is Bond really on the same level from the 60s-90s?? It’s really lost it’s touch. I have a weird feeling the next actor will totally bomb.
I know most people want Bond in theaters being released every 3-4 years but I am losing hope a little. Each film goes further and further away from the typical Bond formula and it gets more and more personal. I really don’t want a Bond origin story or backstory. We know who he is. Just give us a Bond movie.
I am guessing whoever the next Bond is, he will be someone that’s most likely already been suggested. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a semi big name.
EON appear not to have received the memo.
I think you could be right.
(Is this like the “I’m just playing Oberhauser” thing…?)
That would be unexpected and perhaps a chance at a standalone after all.
But what is he saying at the end of the clip? “I’m really sad but that’s the tradition if there is a new...”
It makes no sense.
I wonder if Waltz has been told he's not back, or, if he just hasn't heard from the producers.
Or, will SP be taken over by a new Head (Monica Bellucci)?
This is seriously excellent news!
He is quite firmly in saying he is not returning. I think that if he hasn't heard of the producers he would have answered differently.
But I agree, it makes little sense and is not what I expected. I'm not sad about it.
You know I heard from some friends on SP that Waltz was difficult and we know he clashed with Mendes. Eon don't mess about. It's possible Blofeld is back, but being played by another actor. Waltz says they have a tradition to change the "villain?" - well they do have a tradition of re-casting Blofeld from film to film. That might explain why he seems vaguely pissed off he's not back. Just a theory.
@ClarkDevlin Thanks!
Been ages since I woke up and turned on the computer to some decent news. TBH, by comparison with the other Blofeld actors (Max Von Sydow included) I tend to overlook that Waltz also played Blofeld. Maybe B25 will end up with a solid villain this time.
Yes, I agree. The rumour about them wanting to take Bond in a new direction for Craig's last bow may be accurate - they may have some surprises in store for us.
Also I would say there is practically no chance of them immediately recasting Blofeld for Bond 25, there's no real need to and its harder to get away with in this day and age. Maybe with the next Bond they will eventually bring the character back but I dont think it will be for several years at the very least.
So, @bondjames , I've got to assume that we are in for more surprises.
We should keep a look out for the schedules of Scooby. That will be the real tell tale in terms of where they're headed.
