And get a cracking good composer not afraid to adapt the JB and 007 theme into the score. :)

That too. But I fear if Mendes returns then it will be more of the same old Newman rehash.
Mendes does not seem to be concerned by the impact the score has on the final product. Perhaps because he is a theatre director at heart.
Another reason why he's not really suited to the series.

AceHole, American Beauty, Thomas Newmans music stole the picture and became one of the most instantly recognisable pieces of film music in history.

Well quite. That was the perfect kind of picture for Newman to score. But I bet it wasn't Mendes who told him "Hey Thomas, I need something special for this project!"

My point is not that Newman has no talent, it was that his director was not interested (enough) in getting the right musical accompaniment for the film.

You're right. I never hear SM talk about the score.

No but my point was Newman nailed the concept and project with the playful music. I personally think Newman has done well. I do miss some of the old sound but still believe Newman delivered on Spectre more so than Skyfall, however the mood of Skyfall as film is reflected by the rather military remembrance type pieces which work with the symbolic imagery of the MI6 Agents coffins draped in Union Jacks. It's not an uplifting film so you can't really go wild with the music. I think he shows more on Spectre, there are some excellent pieces on that Spectre soundtrack.

Whether Craig returns or not will come down to the box office performance of SP and money. If SP gets the tills ringing, then EON and it's new distribution partner will be desperate to keep Craig and offer him more dosh or producer points (which amount to the same thing) to stay which, at this stage, I think is the only reason he would. If SP under-performs though, they may well decide to bring in someone else cheaper.

Either way, I think it's time to shake things up a bit. The well- publicised script issues are enough for me to think that somebody else deserves a go (wouldn't mind Mark Gatiss personally). I'd rather Mendes didn't return either, he's mined the emotional mummy/daddy issues as far as they can go - this would also mean we weren't saddled with any more of Newman's generic mood music.

Bang on. Return on investment will be the determining factor.

The pseudo –psycho elements have been done to death, as you say, though I would point the finger at P&W more than Mendes, personally. Mendes’ main weakness is that he doesn’t really grasp the essentials of how to frame & deliver a coherent action piece with a large scope. He was brought on board to bring gravitas, I get that, but it has resulted in the thrills being given a back seat. SP had good set-pieces to cover this flaw up, but in SF this is all too apparent.

It's funny that, but your both right, SM doesn't seem that interested in the soundtrack which is criminal IMO. However if you listened to a recent interview with J. J. Abrams about Star Wars 7 he say's he's still got a session with John Williams to finish the film & that's literally weeks before it's released!

If Sam Mendes does not return? Would love JJ Abrams or possibly even Danny Boyle?

I don't think it would be wise to hire Danny Boyle, or we will have the film equivalent of William Boyd's awfully boring novel with political climate and nothing fancy.

    JJ Abrams uhh...

I like him no doubt. But imagine all the previously assumed dead characters turning up in Bond 25.

    Judi Dench's M:
"I faked my death, James, it was necessary to operate in the background. Only Mallory knew."

    Le Chiffre:
"You really thought I am dead, ha! You have a lot to learn about Poker Mr. Bond!"

    Greene:
"Next time, Monsieur Bond, make sure the body they find in the desert really is me"

    Vesper:
"I'm so sorry James, they made me do it, if I hadn't stayed dead, they would have murdered you and when I heard you have a new one (Camille) I thought it's all good."

And therein lies the problem. The issues aren't being addressed. Irrespective of what the numbers are, Craig isn't the problem; he's the only one constant that serves to be an asset to these movies. Bringing in a new actor even if he's cheaper is if no benefit and brings no resolve. The writing is what needs to be addressed and approached infinitely better. Get in new writers and make sure they know what the hell they're doing.

As for a new director, I'd pick Gareth Evans with Alfonso Cuaron a very close second pick.

I'm with you on that. B25 should be one last hurrah for Craig and Mendes - bring back Waltz and Seydoux too :P

No Craig is the selling point. They won't bring in cheaper.. they need a name to attach.

Yes, Bond is different in that casting a new Bond is usually exciting.

If they recast I doubt it's solely because it's cheaper.

They will most likely just cut the budget which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I do wonder what impact the performance of SP will have on securing a new partner studio.

Got to have one ...MGM has no distribution side... and don't they own half of Bond or did EON buy that back from UA?

Bond associated with MGM makes me nervous ...

I've heard it said in the world of sports that it's better to get rid of a player a little too early than a little too late. I am a big fan of Craig's Bond. SPECTRE ties together his era so well that as much as I might want to see him once again in the role, it really would be a great way to not only end his tenure as Bond but also end this incarnation.

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing if Martin Campbell can go 3 for 3 in launching a new actor in the role.

I want him back as well. I don't think he's coming back though. I just want a director with some talent. A good director with some personality, just like Mendes. Mendes has shown how it's done. Both the serious kind of Bond, and the more classical Bond.

I think that it was Nolan himself that said that he wanted to do a Bond flick, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him direct Bond 25 introducing Tom Hardy or Michael Fassbender as Bond. Because, I only see him coming to this franchise if, and only if, he is allowed to bring a new Bond. I'm not thrilled with this idea, but I have to admit that he ticks the boxes I mentioned before with Mendes: he's a director with some personality. Plus, a huge fanbase. That would also mean that Zimmer would almost certainly be doing the score.

It would be a Nolan film with Bond in it. I feel, he is rather too much into himself then give room for Bond. Plus I found DK and co rather boring.

Nolan will probably be ruled out again, as he's already at work on another project - probably due out around the same time that Bond 25 will be out....

Earlier. WB announced it'll be out July 21st 2017.

Nolan is a Bond fan. It's one of his main influences. He'd be very respectful to the franchise while putting his own spin on it. I'd welcome it.

The prospective of having Martin Campbell direct Bond 25 and likely Craig's final Bond film are the following:

    1. Unique directorship: GoldenEye and Casino Royale were very different films and both critically praised by the majority of fans. He does not have tunnel vision when it comes to a creative vision that the entire production team design. Quite honestly, his work in Casino Royale was brilliant and probably aided by the addition of source material in comparison to GoldenEye. Since we are going down an alternate remake of the Blofeld trilogy, there is a treasure-trove of source material to extract gripping moments with which to tie the arc together.

    2. Book-ending Craig's journey: He has the most intimate experience with Craig as Bond because he was his starting director. Mendes was beneficial and serviceable in his expansion of the Bond mythology, but to have true closure of the character, who better than to have his first Bond director at the helm?
