I'm a big fan of the original trilogy and count it among the best ever made. I agree that Fellowship of the Ring is probably the best, although I have a soft spot for The Two Towers. Gollum always gets me. Tragic character.

Yes, the first two are brilliant. The third, I think, took itself a but too serious, and was overlong. Ironically that's the one which won all the Oscars!

Unbelievable what some people say about LOTR.

They're undoubtedly great films, it's just that I don't care for the genre.

    +1

Perfect example of not liking something not being a reflection on their quality.

They're probably great to their respective genre, I just don't really care for it.

I could not agree with you more. I've never been a swords&sandels/Middle-earth genre fan, but I understand that if you are, this would be gold to you.

That said, I have a friend who has no interest whatsoever in Star Wars. He's never seen them and has no interest because sci-fi does nothing for him, but still, it cuts deep that he could be left out of such a big cultural touchstone.

Not that it matters as there is no way to keep pace , but it does seem that the Marvel Cinematic Universe series beginning with Ironman in 2008 will soon pass Bond as longest running continuous film series.
I think they are up to, what 19 entries now, with 2 more films per year projected.

Even with the snail production pace of recent years, Bond could still hold the record as longest running series involving the same principal character or team of characters.

Does a Cinematic Universe count as film series, though? They're just movies being produced under the same brand, even though they're set in the same continuity.

Even then, Bond would still top the MCU because it stars the same character.

    Yes that distinction is there.
But what they have in common is they are both continuous running series. The MCU character and story crossover is so pronounced that I think it can legitimately be seen to be poised to overtake Bond in regard as continuously running series.......but yes standalone character-wise, Bond is still well in front even with the post DAD production snail pace.

Could LOTR generate 25 feature films? Those three Hobbit flicks were a daunting task to sit through without dozing off.
I think they would just need good missions.

    22 of them.

I love all 3 LOTR films. All brilliant. Loved the books, too.

Bond films not going there, me thinks. Unsure why we are discussing them here.
Except maybe the cinematography? That was stunning and Bond 25 cinematographer is of great interest to me.

    Locations. New Zealand.

You'll be able to see the New Zealand countryside in the upcoming Mission Impossible : Fallout, if you like.
Don't think Bond needs to follow suit again with MI

I love NZ as a location; thanks. But if really featured much at all in MI, then no.
I want at least part of Bond25 in Japan. Past due.

New Zealand has a very varied landscape but, yeah, it could wait. Japan is good.

Better to "call out" MI for all the Bond items presented in their trailer.

I have a feeling: no NZ and no Japan and no SP

Japan is prohibitively expensive. Other than that, it is a superb option and truly overdue.

Sean Bean. Christopher Lee. John Rhys-Davies?

Oh to think of Sean being in Bond again gets my heart racing actually. One of my favorite actors.

@4EverBonded is absolutely correct, I will say!

Japan truly is a beautiful country and we haven't visited it since 1967. YOLT showed great stuff but there's a lot more to be found.

Since SP attempted some -- albeit modest -- hints at OHMSS, why not make B25 this era's YOLT (and I'm talking Fleming, not volcano lairs).

No. MI already lead the way in death defying stunts.

Problem is, I don't care if Ethan Hunt lives or dies. He's not a character worth investing in.

Modern Japan would be amazing to see.

Some places Bond has never been to that I'd love to see in Bond 25

    Israel
    Chicago
Great Wall of China (was possibly going to be used in 3rd Dalton film)

I have faith in Boyle and Hodge that they will do the locations they choose justice

If your character is more two-dimensional than Bond, then you have a problem.
