Well said. It seems Barbara Broccoli's final Bond film will be nearly 100% "A Barbara Broccoli film", unlike any Bond film before. She knows this is the end of line for her, so she decided to say "F it! I'm going all in!" You have to respect her mojo.

    Who says it's her final?

Exactly. Where did that come from?

@Pierce2Daniel What is indicative of a lack of commercial awareness is that you believe the scenario you just described is more likely than a scenario where BB + MGW do NOT sell the rights but do relinquish creative control.

Have you cut your face off and sent it to Barbara in the post yet?

I mean what else can we do because there's very little known information on B25.

    @PanchitoPistoles

I’m not too sure where you’ve got this impression that the Broccoli’s selling means they are “out”. I think you may also be confused as to who could actually “buy” the series. Only a major Hollywood film studio could theoretically pony up the $1+ billion to buy the franchise off Eon.

However, the Broccoli’s are solely in the business of Bond. There is a very good chance that they could sell the series and receive a huge amount of capital in return. But Broccoli wouldn’t relinquish control, the likelihood is that she’d still oversee the franchise but essentially be an employee for the studio who own Bond.

This way Broccoli maintains day-to-day control of Eon, but Eon would be a subsidiary of a major Hollywood studio. Much in the same way that Kathleen Kennedy heads Lucasfilm and Kevin Feige is the figurehead of Marvel.

I’m sorry to tell you that the Broccoli’s aren’t going anyway. It’s their family business and the series has guaranteed their legacy. Why would Broccoli disown the series and all the financial rewards if it means she can feed Broccoli’s for generations to come?

There may not be a Broccoli producing the films in 10-20 years but the family’s vested interest won’t go away. Any suggestion to the contrary is clearly immature and indicative of a lack of commercial awareness.
What you propose is one scenario. There are others, including Panchito's, as well as status quo. We really can't comment with any degree of accuracy as to what the future will hold at this point. After B25's release, I expect some changes at MGM which can certainly influence what EON does with their share going forward.

B25 had better be a classic after all this messing around. It's another pivotal point for the future of the franchise.

Dave Bautista confirms that there were talks about Hinx’s comeback and his hopes were high. But not anymore. http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/james-bond-007/news/a865569/dave-bautista-james-bond-25-return-spectre-mr-hinx/

Perhaps he’s referring to the Purvis and Wade old script and when Hodge’s idea came aboard, there was no more Hinx…

I agree with you. I think they need a bona fide classic this time.

Interesting. I'm quite surprised he was ever considered to return. I didn't find his character particularly memorable, and he wasn't integral to the plot. If they wanted to remind us of SP (even briefly), then they should have planned to finish off the Seydoux/Waltz storylines imho.

@ggl007 Very interesting. I feel like you're right in guessing that Hinx was a part of the P&W script, and that they want to stay with Hodge's general story (with one or two new writers probably coming in) now, which is likely a lot more standalone and unconnected with Craig's previous films. From what all the speculation has suggested, P&W were going to continue off of SP directly in some fashion, while Boyle and Hodge came up with something more fresh and original.

I'm surprised he took this on frankly, especially now with B25 needing full focus.

    Interesting times indeed.

That black long hair on the left look a bit... strange for Bond.

If they miss 2019 & craig is indeed doing a different film then I'm sorry but craig & babs are just out of touch & lazy. Look at the energy & drive plus entertainment cruise & team brings in fallout, you won't see that from eon they want to waste 3 years Putting something together then scrap it & start over with an outline from p&w at best.

Using P & W at this point means that that they are being just as lazy and out of touch. Purvis said himself he doesn't know how to approach writing a Bond movie anymore. New Bond and new writers please, we already got a new studio!

Well, they wrote a Bond 25 script, which got shelved after Boyle and Hodge were hired.

    I see three options:_

    1. Polish the P&W script and find a director, either Demange, Forster, or Mackenzie or a journeyman like Noyce or Donaldson, who will be shooting it.

    2. Try to get Boyle back, and accept his casting choice for the villain.

    3. Indeed delay the movie to 2020 and take time to find a new director.

I just hope he adopts a different appearance in comparison to how he will look for Bond, especially given most audiences will not have seen him in anything for four years by that time. I agree that a stache (a'la Cavill in MI) or beard could do the job.

I think the Boyle/Hodge general storyline is going to be used, but with new writer(s) coming in to add more and "fix" however they see fit. Boyle and Hodge would get writing credit, but the script will probably still be noticeably different from how it started. I like to hope they don't go back to P&W. I wonder though if they will bring in P&W to "fix" Hodge's script... who knows?

I think it's going to be connected with the first 4 films but still a standalone with hodge polished script.

Its interesting that director SJ CLARKSON has come onto the list as a potential Bond director and I think that she has a pretty good chance of getting the job. For starters the next STAR TREK film is being produced by Paramount and Skydance Media. Its currently having a couple of problems of its own (due to to celebrity salaries). SKYDANCE MEDIA is owned by David Ellison. David Ellison is Megan Ellison's brother. Megan Ellison is the owner of Annapurna Pictures which will distribute BOND 25 with MGM in the US. He probably knows that the Star Trek film isn't going to start anytime soon. S J Clarkson has been on the project I think since April. Maybe David Ellison proposed to Megan Ellison SJ as a potential replacement for Boyle based on his working relationship with her on the new STAR TREK film. I am not familiar with any of the new names forwarded as potential directors but of the 2 added to the list I have a feeling she is the one that BB will go for. After all Paramount offered her the STAR TREK gig which is a big budget picture from a major Hollywood studio.

You forgot the most likely option: no delay, they keep the script by Hodge and get writers to polish it / add action. Based on the information by @peter , this is exactly what's happening.

Every Craig movie has been awaited like a pivotal point for the future of the franchise.

If things go wrong with 25, they can always reboot.

When looking at the current news cycle it seems that SJ Clarkson is getting the most attention.

I feel once the 'first woman director' card has been played, it's difficult to put it back in the pack. Eon may have to hire her purely for damage control purposes at this stage....

I haven't seen anything she's done. In fact, aside from a few episodes here and there, she's only handled one mini-series that got middling reviews for the BBC/Netflix. I'd be concerned, especially since there are numerous other capable directors available:

    Susanna White
    Susanna Bier
    Lynne Ramsay
    Andrea Arnold
    Amma Asante
    Kimberly Pierce
    Jennifer Kent
    Reed Morano

All of the above have actually directed a feature film, unlike SJ Clarkson....

I really couldn't care less about the director's gender, race, orientation, etc. All I care about is that they can help deliver a great Bond film.

Martin Campbell had only directed a few films before he got the GE job. And I am pretty sure that EON didn't hire him based on those train wrecks. EON probably hired Campbell based on his previous TV directing gigs.

Same. It shouldn't be the priority at this time. Maybe one day, but they have more pressing concerns.

Agreed. On time too. I think they should prioritize someone who is workmanlike but who also has a bit of flair, because presumably the Hodge script has some intricacies and peculiarities which will require a deft touch - especially if it was initially action light. Looking at the names that have been mentioned, this is indeed what they are doing. I have a feeling the directorial stamp will be especially important in this film, as will getting the absolute best out of all pivotal actors.

I really wonder, what horrible things Barbara Broccoli must have done to PanchitoPistol. On the one hand he apparently hates her, on the other hand he seems to be obsessed of her. Is that rejected love, I wonder?
  • edited September 2018 Posts: 4,619
@DoctorKaufmann I don't hate Barbara Broccoli, I simply find her incompetent. It's nothing personal, I just want the best for the Bond franchise, and I believe her exit would lead to better Bond movies. Obviously, I want MGW gone, too.
