Fiennes is a great M. I hope he returns.

I like Fiennes, but I do miss Dame Judi.

I like Fiennes, but would like to see him in a more traditional “M” role of simple sending Bond on a mission, with the possibility of what was done in Goldfinger, a briefing over dinner.
I don’t want him involved in the action, the actual mission . This also goes for, dare I say it, the “Scooby Gang”

Just remember, Ralph Fiennes has one thing that most actors in James Bond don't: Star Power. He arguably has much say in his character. Considering he doesn't come cheap, we can expect a lot of scenes with him as well.

Hear hear. Come to think of it, the only films where Dench had a really increased role was in TWINE, QOS, and SF. In DAD and CR, it was only slightly bigger.

All of that as well. I would add commanding Bond's deepest respect is a "traditional" aspect of the character.

Exactly. I don't buy any sense of deep respect between Craig and Fiennes in SP. Just look at the briefing between Bond and M in TB. It's night and day in comparison.

So we have no news. Well, I'm okay waiting for EON to give us actual news. I still sleep well at night, and I'm still very excited to Daniel as Bond in this next film, and I'm eager to have real news from EON. But I'm just not upset over anything at the moment. Call me crazy.

I lived thru the very long wait from LTK to GE (and getting a new Bond!) and managed not to chew my nails off or commit murder during those long 6 years. I'm spending my time reading books (antiquated of me, I know) and watching dvds (recently Skyfall, which I still love, followed by TSWLM, one of my all time favorites).

I'm glad P&W are back, whether in full or with other writers. I do expect at least one other writer. No way to know percentage of whose material yet, it is still being written so of course we cannto guess at writing credits yet. I'm glad some of Hoge's ideas are kept because people were excited about something he had written.

The directors mentioned I am not familiar with, but I do trust EON to choose someone who can handle the kind of budget, time schedule, action, momentum, and monumental fan adulation and attacks/critiques that accompany every single new Bond film. So I'm not into bashing Barbara or Michael. I think they do a great job overall (track record is positive in my eyes) and I'm not worried.

I cannot fathom why personal attacks on members are continuing. That is a blilght on this forum. Maybe some people would benefit by writing their own fan fiction, or their own fantasy press releases for Bond25, just to blow off steam. Not on this thread, though, please. It's nice this thread was reopened. Let's hope it can proceed in a nicer way.

So M ... I love Judi's M as the best of the entire series. I enjoy the traditional older films, too. I like Fiennes, no problem. I don't get any bad vibes from Bond and M in SF or SP. No, Craig's Bond does not have the old fashioned reverential touch, but I wouldn't change him. I like Craig's portrayal. I doubt M will have a larger role in Bond 25, but that could be.

I think fiennes is a great actor and he can perform in desk job as well as in field,it was just poorly written in SP hopefully it will be better in bond 25, goldfinger briefing over dinner is one of my favorite bond scenes.

This is an interesting turn of events. Most exciting. And an American director too. Looks like that myth has been busted for good. ;)
  • I am excited. He made Beast of No Nation and that's a good film.

I'm very, very cautiously optimistic about this choice. I don't want to get too excited, but I think we may get something really good!

Love that it's on Valentine's Day! A shame it had to miss 2019, but at least it was only by a few months instead of a whole year. When was the last time a Bond film didn't come out in October/November?

And finally we have a Bond film coming out on a year ending with 0, all other possibilities have been covered (1981, 1962, 1983, 1974, 1995, 2006, 1987, 2008, 1969).

    YES!

I suggested his name last week without really believe in it because of EoN (ex) US directors policy.

February 2020 is fine, but it's a bit strange it will come out the same day as X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Fukunaga is a badass choice. Funny timing too, with his Netflix miniseries Maniac starting Jonah Hill and Emma Stone out tomorrow.
