Michael Fassbender: "I want to be James Bond".

    http://moviepilot.com/posts/3933228

Make this happen! Fassbender is one of the greatest actor working today and the thought of him doing Bond would be such a coup for EON. Despite being an arthouse favourite and being in the X-men films (which are ensemble pieces by nature) he isn't a huge star or too big a name (arguably like Tom Hardy). He'd be a terrific Bond.

Fassbender is the man. Emanates cool without trying. My #1 pick actually, but there's no way it's going to happen, sadly. So I'll make do with Hiddleston.

Well, as soon as you say in an interview that you want to be James Bond, your chances of actually playing the part become non-existent. So, all bets on Fassbender are useless now.

But why? Brosnan wanted to be Bond badly and got it twice.

Fassbender is the ultimate choice for Bond. He has the perfect blend of sophistication, dark, machiavellian-ism, paired with great acting. And good god does he have screen presence, that Inglorious Basterds scene with him just seals the deal.

I don't think him saying he wants to be Bond diminishes his chances. I'd rather someone who actually wanted to do the part, then someone who didn't really care.

Yes, but there is a difference between wanting to play the part and saying it out-loud to journalists in interviews. I don't know why Idris Elba is sometimes blasted on these threads for putting himself forward for the role at every occasion he can, but Fassbender gets a free pass for doing the same thing in this interview.

He's also half Irish, which wouldn't please suavejmf. ( He put Irish as a minus on another thread )

I would welcome Fassbender even though to be bluntly honest like Christian Bale would basically be more of the same regarding early Craig though last night for fun I watch Craig's pts/m briefing in Spectre and Pts/the free running chase in Royale it feels like night and day I want Craig to return only if he gives us a casino Royale/quantum of solace style performance versus Spectre (the couch thing feels more at home in a tom and Jerry cartoon then a bond film)

I would be sad if like Brosnan Craig didn't get his chance to bring the character back down to earth (though if they cut the Moore humor out and keep the discussion between White and Bond that was in an earlier script that has White Explaining the name change from Quantum to Spectre etc Spectre could of been a good film) but at the same token I am hoping For bond 25 much like Casino Royale no more Moore jokes and silly bits and a more stripped down thriller.

Yes, and Hiddleston, a Moore cosplayer in the making, gets a pass, but Aidan Turner, the perfect Fleming Bond gets mocked and nitpicked to death by everyone. Oh he's only 6 foot, not tall enough. Oh he's 32, that's too young. Oh he's not famous enough for Bond.

Then they tell me, "sure he looks like Bond, but he doesn't have special something"

    "What special something?"

"Oh, its completely indefinable. I couldn't possibly explain it."

    ???

This is one of the things they really have to keep in their mind going forward.

Don't try to ape Moore, or Connery even. Those two could deliver the quips (even the cringe worthy ones) with aplomb. No other actor since has been able to do it, so they shouldn't even try. Craft the humour to suit the actor. They nailed it in SF for Craig imho (battle weary sarcasm is his thing).

I can't speak for everyone but for me Turner looks and sounds too much like Brosnan which scares me as Brosnan was the weakest bond for me. Now before you freak out I lived through the Brosnan era and I can do the same if Turner gets the role.

Well said. That would be a huge casting coup if Fassy became Bond and the fact that he wants to do it just makes it all the more sweeter. Furthermore, the circumstances surrounding the alleged 2 picture deal pay day Craig turned down exposes to some degree a possible sort of pay scheme the lead actor will get. Hollywood salaries are an iffy subject and that could possibly put EoN at a negotiating disadvantage when it comes to paying actors. Again, this is just speculation. Fassy taking on the role would be more of a benefit to them than the otger way round and with great actors taking roles in blockbuster vehicles, I think EoN would do themselves a huge favour if they can get superb character actor like Fassy who isn't big enough to be distracting from being 007.

He doesn't have the sort of presence I'd expect of someone portraying Bond. He doesn't own the screen. He looks the part, but as DC proved, its all about the performance and I've yet to see anything from him that puts him anywhere near the bracket of Craig. I don't see him dominating a silver screen.

Good point. Even if they wanted to pay Fassbender the ridiculous sum that they allegedly offered Craig for a two picture deal, I'd be ok with it. He'd nail the part and it would really create some buzz around B25.

    I couldn't agree more.

Last year I was told by someone in the know that Eon are very interested in Fassbender.

Personally, he'd be my top choice.

Agreed, based on EON's previous track record, he's really hurt his chances by publicly declaring himself interested in the role.

If indeed there is a search for a new Bond underway, it would seem as though we're in the Clive Owen phase, where any and all actors are going to come out of the woodwork and use the part as a means to get their names out into the media.

I think I'd have to take Fassbender up on his offer. With all these exciting possibilities for a new Bond, I'm almost at the point where I'd be disappointed if Dan came back.

I'm just saying, "he lacks that special something" is the Hail Mary that comes out when people have exhausted every other possible drive-by criticism.

But this is the key. You might be dating the best looking woman/man you ever seen, but if there's no spark you're f*****. Some people clearly feel that way about Turner. All the boxes are ticked, but there's something missing.

To add to that, such a situation would be the worst possible way forward with Bond. If you have everything else (not saying that Turner does, but for the sake of argument) but don't have that "spark", "x-factor", "it", or whatever you want to call it, the whole thing is going to come across as extremely hollow. Take Craig as an example, of someone who didn't tick all of the boxes, yet had that special something, and redefined the character in the face of overwhelming negativity towards his casting.

Completely agree on that 'undefinable something'. That's the key to a great Bond actor imho, because then they can embody the infinite cool of Bond without having to 'act' it.
