I want Waltz back. Not bothered who scores it. I just want the story to be as Flemingesque as possible. Also a I want Tanner to be more involved. Rory Kinnear has had little to do to date.

    If Arnold returns, I'm out.

    Goldfingers

Wouldn't surprise me if they brought Goldfinger back to the movies at some point in my life.

Boy oh boy, are we stuck in the same rut again. No news, no more elaboration to conjure about the director. Just void and enough patience to fill a peanut.

Hey, if Star Wars can remake A New Hope, Bond can remake Goldfinger.

They did, it's called A View To A Kill.

    I sadly agree

Gold finger was always a film with iconic moments but no thru line

    Agreed.

I suppose Bond could go down the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' route and make the next one : Goldfingerer.

No through line? What does that mean? The plot is driven by a man obsessed with gold. Goldfinger is a terrific character, and the supporting characters around him are great too - very memorable. Pussy Galore is far more interesting than MayDay. OddJob is an iconic character to this day. Connery is on top form. The film oozes 60's class and style. AVTAK oozes 80's cheese. Moore is past his prime and looks and sounds tired. Walken is good as Zorin, but the writing doesn't do him justice. There is a reason why GF is always at the top of critics' and audiences' lists of the best Bond films. I don't think I have ever seen such a list with AVTAK in the top 3 or 5 films. In fact it nearly always appears near the bottom. It's a poor plot re-hash of a far, far superior film.

I used to think this was one of the few agreements in the fan community. But I guess the times are changing. Never though I'd hear someone prefer AVTAK to GF. Now, if we're talking about the books, GF is no good, no good at all. One of Fleming's weakest. That they've been able to turn that book into that film is one of nature's miracles IMO.

Agree re; Fleming's novel. Eon took the strong central premise and characters and worked them into very sharp and witty script.

Re; the argument, can anyone really claim Connery '64 is bettered by Moore '85?

I'm not saying which Bond I prefer, obviously it's Connery '64,all I am saying is I prefer AVTAK as an entertaining film, compared to GF,where, apart from the brilliant PTS and golf scene,Bond doesn't do a lot...IMO.

AVTAK was Moore's final Bond - and, it seems, Bond 25 will be Craig's swan song, perhaps that's why it's come up?

Look opinions are opinions but if I had to choose between the two I would choose A view to a kill

My issues with gold finger are as follows

    1. While there are iconic moment there are also boring moments like watching Goldfinger sleep while Odd job drives him around
    2. Bond does next to nothing in the second half of the film
    3. The cia is completely adept in the film (especially annoying since just two years previous we got one of he coolest Leiters on film)

Again I love all Bond films but sorry Goldfinger is just not one of my faves it’s not as bad as Moonraker or Diamonds are forever but it’s not the masterpiece of Casino Royale or From Russia with Love

AVTAK is, for me, one of the most tired and cheesy Bond films ever made, (the fact it had to steal /re-work the GF premise says it all) but I still enjoy it for what it is -- it just isn't in the same filmmaking league as GF in terms of script, casting, direction, acting, music and design etc. And that's why it is widely considered one of the best Bond films, if not the best Bond, by nearly every poll ever taken. That does not mean you can't enjoy AVTAK more than GF, that's just personal taste.

Now, back to Bond 25, perhaps?

Yes, but back to what? :) Now that is the question.

What do you guys think it's happening behind the curtain right now? Fukunaga's writing alongside P&W? New sets are being build? What?
