The so-called "candidates" that I see today do frighten me big time.

We're stuck with either nightclub bouncers or effeminate undergrown boy band guys.

    That's why it's called acting.

Craig was hardly a frontrunner when chosen. No need to worry. Enjoy B25!
Implying that just because one’e acting credibilities are good, one can play anything.

Craig may not have been the frontrunner but he still looked the part in some way that today’s actors don’t.
  • Cary is in London tonight at the BIFA awards ceremony, where he gave Judi Dench an honorary award
    presenter-cary-fukunaga-winner-of-the-richard-harris-award-for-by-picture-id1076275114

He worked with Judi Dench on an adaption of Jane Eyre a few years back. Though, I suspect he's in London on Bond business.

Interesting... maybe Dench can be in a flashback which would then bring her film count to 9 lol

I don't understand the negativity, other than boredom or naysaying.

The franchise is still in better shape than it has been in decades. Craig has reinvigorated the role. Mendes has stepped aside and we have a up-and-coming, young, dare I say Young-like, new director. I expect the mistakes of SP to be quickly swept aside and for Bond to get on with business, as usual.

Because the era has been plagued by long years inbetween films. Especially when most people agree that two of the 4 are “not that good”.

Since at least 1971, every other Bond film has not been very good: DAF, TMWTGG, etc. So this isn't exactly a new trend...and I still think Craig's four are better than any four of Moore's, or Brosnan's four. Connery's first four are tops, but they had full novels to adapt back then. And they had Maibaum.

I maintain that Fukunaga will find a way to have Dench in B25. Some way, somehow.

I thought for sure we would have heard something from Baz by now. I’ve been watching his Twitter every week & still nothing.

Either there's problems or there really keeping a tight lip on this one. Not a single plot or story rumor leaked yet

For anyone who still isn't familiar with this.

Perhaps Bond 25 is destined for a Bond 17 crisis.
There's really no need to be so pessimistic.

Sorry. It’s just hard to be anything but with the way this production has developed thus far.
Why? Just kick back and relax. Watch some Bond films, or M.I :-).

I think it’d be more tolderable if there was a new video game. I used to love playing Bond video games.

@DonnyDB5 same here I miss the video games too

It's a combination thing. Some will say the Mendes flicks, others, QOS and SP. Me, I find merit in all of them. As well as flaws. And i do appreciate Sam Mendes contribution; they were very fun times to be a Bond fan.

I’ve honestly loved every single Craig-Bond film, but Casino Royale is still my favorite. I hope Bond 25 is similar.

I love CR; over the years, QoS has really grown on me . Despite some lapses in logic,SF is a favorite and is highly re-watchable. SP is unique among Bond films in that I doubt that I will ever again watch it all the way through.
So Craig is 3 of 4 for me.

All of which suggests to me that most people do not agree that two of the 4 are not that good.

Or, if they do, they can't agree which two. ;)

SP has really grown on me recently considering I've been longing for a more traditional Bond film for quite some time. I do love all four of Craig's, but honestly don't watch them nearly as often as the classic Cubby films. I'm more likely to pop in DAF or AVTAK on any given day over QoS or even CR.

Any rumors on what might the plot be? Any chance of a proper YOLT adaptation?

Yes, a chance. The working title is (was?) Shatterhand.

Is that still the case on the production website?

Can't see it listed on there.

I think that any disagreements on this exist more within the hardcore community. I have rarely seen QoS lauded and SF looked down upon outside of aficionado websites such as this one, for instance.

I'd say CR & SF are seen as the hits in the public sphere and the other two are generally seen as misses. Craig pretty much ensured that lasting narrative about SP at least with his now infamous remark about 'a high', which I've always found strange from a PR standpoint.

  • Supposedly, Cary called Judi Dench a 'bad bitch' last night. Dench has a great sense of humour. Her icy and cold M seems a million miles away from her true persona.

I'm still waiting for word on who he'll hire as his DP. Does anyone with film business ties know who this'll be?

I love Judi Dench. Craig always said her sense of humor on set of Bond was great. Apparently she tells very dirty jokes, and swears like a sailor.

Or read some Bond stories, books or comics. There will probably be a new film around when you finally finish them.

This isn't a bad idea. The comics put out by Dynamite in recent years have been terrific. They're not films but work really well as para-texts...a la Spider-man into the Spider-verse.

I just looked and there is no mention of Bond25 at all in November. I'm not worried, more intrigued. Seems to fit with a more tightlipped approach to production.

I can somewhat understand the worry for some because people are anxious to here some actual news but there is absolutely no need; the process is just playing out. Since the change of Director was announced there hasn’t been a single thing that should sound the warning bell.

The mainstream is reporting bond 25 will continue the story and character arc of casino royale. They refer to the vulnerability aspect. Wonder what's left to explore

    Haines should have been C.
  • It’s pretty obvious that the trajectory they’ll follow (and the film’s big hook) will be Bond’s death.

    1. Casino Royale: Here, Bond is an idealistic rookie who fails to comprehend the big picture. He has his heart broken and learns the hard way that the world is not black-and-white. Also, he someone who struggles with decisions he’s made, especially killing people.
    2. Quantum of Solace: Following the events of the last films, Bond is angry, cold and isolated. Is he looking for revenge or closure?
    3. Skyfall: Here, Bond starts the film as wiser and more self-assured. However, he quickly becomes older and more antiquated. 007 is very much a seasoned vet who is past his peak and growing obsolete.
    4. Spectre: After proving those who doubted his competence wrong, Bond is back in full-form and more driven than we have previously seen. He falls in love again and doors that he previously thought closed are reopened. He is content to not kill the villain (the ‘bigger picture’) and retire with beautiful woman (the exact inverse of CR).

In many, Spectre was an ‘ending’ of sorts. It closed off the Craig films.

However, since Craig is coming back. I think we’ll almost certainly see an older and more grizzled Bond. Someone on his last legs. If all rumours of Boyle’s exit are to be believed, Bond will die. I can imagine that Craig will aim to give an Oscar-worthy performance as Bond. It’ll be that kind of movie. We’ll also likely see the end of Whishaw, Fiennes and Harris’s tenures. This will work as a finale on the Craig era. Then we reboot with a new director and perspective.

For naysayers and people who disapprove of the more angsty Bond. His death won't be permaent like say Luke Skywalker's and canon hardly matters with Bond films. You can rejoice in knowing that the series will reboot with a more ‘fun’ approach. I think Eon will steer clear of doom and gloom and get a Christopher McQuarrie/Edgar Wright-type for Bond 26. The Christopher Nolan-Bond has already been done with Craig.
