If you watch the video this guy consistently repeats stuff like "I don't know if it's true, maybe is nothing, I heard so but maybe its not true" etc etc. So I would not trust any of this """rumors""" regarding B25 and Fukunaga. We will see.

BTW also Mendes had one step out of the door in mid 2014.

A smashing hit and most importantly a personal favorite. But I can understand your concerns. Perhaps this "rumors" are all made up stuff and the notion of Cavill being in 25 "for taking the torch" is just ridiculous.

Agreed. I don't buy any of it.

I very much recommend we don't; that's terrible behaviour.

Guys, Jeff Sneider is a respected insider. Also please note how differently he presented the two rumors. The Cavill rumour is obviously wild speculation, while the Fukunaga nearly leaving one is not without merit.

I should caveat this - in principle, @PanchitoPistoles is correct - however, whilst Sneider is legitimate, he can be wrong or ill-informed compared to his more high profile competitors.

Sneider has connections, but he was notably fired by Variety, The Wrap and Mashable for dishonest reporting. He has certainly rebranded himself at Collider - but he isn't bulletproof. He averages maybe one newsworthy scoop every 6-8 weeks.

The most authoritative sources for Bond 25 news is Justin Kroll (Variety), Deadline and (of course) Baz.

Anyway, Barabara Broccoli is scheduled to be at a BIFA function winning an award tonight and Cary Fukunaga is nominated for a DGA Award on Sunday. Perhaps these events will yield something?

Yes he definitely presented the Fukunaga rumor as something more reliable. But I would not call him so much "respected" since his past attitude. Let's just hope filming will begin in 32 days at this point without any further potential drama behind it.

Maybe Fukunaga is just feeling the pressure of a project this size. He's talented etc etc but he never did something like this and I can't imagine a more stressful - but on the other hand, exciting - blockbuster than a Bond movie.

Honestly, at this point it would not surprise me at all if the start of filming were delayed by 1 or 2 months (without delaying the release date).

It's a distinct possibility. Though I hugely encourage people to read back through the Spectre Production Timeline thread:
    https://www.mi6community.com/discussion/5144/spectre-production-timeline

Around this exact time - we were posting the exact same things. We didn't even publicly know Waltz was in contention for the villain role.

The thing I have the hardest time getting my head around exactly what this 'bold' idea Danny Boyle had actually was. I mean, Mendes went to Eon sand said:

⚫ In Skyfall, I want Bond to go through a mid-life crisis, then I'm going to ditch the traditional Bond girl role and make Judi Dench the female lead - only to kill her off.
⚫ In Spectre, I'm going to reintroduce Blofeld and make him Bond's adopted brother.

Both these ideas met with Eon's approval. I'd argue that Barbara and Micheal are in their most friendly and collaborative era - hence the move to auteurs.

Why exactly are they rubbing people the wrong way on Bond 25? They seemed so adaptable and ready for change before....

I watched the video and to me it seemed like the comment was made with great hesitation. I doubt there is any validity to it. Bond 25 is a response to Spectre which was fraught with leaks. As other members have pointed out the film will be done with a focus in studio which explains lack of rumours. Jeff Sneider even points out he hasn't reported this yet because it's not strong enough

I hadn't thought of it that way, but it's a hell of a good point.

"Kill M? make Blofeld into Bond's brother? Sure, here's 200 million dollars - go get it done!"

In that environment, what exactly was the idea that was too far out?

Also, in a time where a Bond director officially was fired, there is no better clickbait than words like "director", "almost" and "quit". It´s very simple psychology.

Good were the old days, when all of these things happened anyway and we just didn't know about them.

There will be a new Bond film. Some will like it. Some will not.

    Lucky us.

Not really. What happened with Boyle has never happened before in the history of the franchise.

I think you're missing his point. It doesn't matter what is/was happening, it the fact that the general public didnt have nearly the access to 'information' as it does now.

Yes, we must all run for the hills. Some of us, not being able to do so, must find shelter elsewhere. Probably in our own diminished and uncircunvented heads. There we shall find comfort bountifully apt for the phobic and the maniac. And there, just there, on the pinnacle of unreason, we shall scorn and spite the people who have brought us throughout the years the very unerring promise of a new Bond film every few years. We shall be mooncalf and off the head of our golden geese, and call them wrong on their past doings.

Bah, please! Grow up. People get fired every day. When they are inapt for most of the times. Probably, your great Danny Boyle was exactly that, inapt, unfit, ill-equipped to deal with the pressure of such a beast of a franchise. A pseudo socialist that wanted to bring down to earth a man who's very motto is The World is not Enough.

Stop distressing, it's long become vexatious!

Can't wait for the press conference! Because these rumour are ridiculous. Everything nowadays is clickbait and fake news.

Something that’s been missing in recent films that I hope will return is Bond being a bit of a smart arse with M. Not to say that he’s being a dick but Bond should carry a near encyclopedic knowledge of topics relevant to his assignments to the point where M is rather annoyed. Think of Bond talking about brandy in Goldfinger or Scaramanga’s life in TMWTGG.

I agree but Craig isn't the Bond for that. Even when he identified the 1948 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith it sounded phoney. I just didn't believe his knowledge to id the car especially from that distance.

    Some food for thought.

Cary Fukunaga said that he would be carrying on the character arc that began in 'Casino Royale'.

In an interview with Screen Daily the heads of Secret Cinema said that "EON has been heavily involved (at a senior level) in its prequel narrative, as well as every other element ... It’s very much a live approvals process. We see them very regularly. They have very strong opinions on how Bond is portrayed. We are guided in how we portray him and the other characters, and how we portray the world.”

Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but it seems that 'Casino Royale' has been on everyone's mind, and the process to get CR to Secret Cinema began three years ago, according to the article. So perhaps the tone of SP wont carry over to B25, and the more grittier realism of CR will be more present in B25 - ending the arc as it began.

Precisely. My sentiments exactly. I'd rather he stick to what he's good at next time, rather than continuing to attempt approaches that don't readily fit with his characterization and defy the bounds of credibility.

I noticed the difference in the delivery as well. Irrespective, none of these were scoops, nor were they intended to be. The interviewer had to draw it out of him on account of a question being asked. Ultimately it appears as though it's 'hush' 'hush' on this production for now, and he's heard nothing of real importance or relevance, so he trots out some rumours he's heard somewhere and presents them as such. He even said that Fukunaga is still with the project as far as he knows, and that's the most relevant thing imho.

Also notice that neither rumour gained any traction outside of this website. These rumours are baseless and shouldn’t be given a second thought. You would think if this was a genuine scoop, he would’ve at least tweeted about it.

Possible News Update: Cary Fukunaga almost dropped out of Bond 25 / Henry Cavill eyed for a role in Bond 25 as a 00-agent? Possibly, Bond in Bond 26

Stay tuned till the 40th minute of the video.

The scoop comes from Jeff Sneider - who has bonafides in the industry for industry news. For example, he broke the news today that Zendaya was to join the join the Dune film, amongst a host of other scoops.

I recommend we spam his Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheInSneider

I had a really bad dream that Fukunaga dropped out last night. I'd truly hate to see that happen. But are people's Henry Cavill dreams about to come true?

    source.gif

Personally, I'm growing exhausted of Bond 25 already, can't we get the reboot now?

    Uh...

He almost dropped out? Ok, so what prompted him to stay on? Not good.

CF didnt almost leave B25, and Cavill wasn't offered a role in it, either.

    Jeez...

As far as breaking casting news, DL's been doing it on Dune and other films for the last few days.

This guy is a nobody working at a nerd site (which I like and read, btw), but is not recommended reading for film-facts, lol!
with how much has gone wrong up to this point.
This is nothing... please go on any film set on any given day: there is always a fire, or fires to put out...

    Over n Out...

Regardless, I simply cannot deal with these rumors anymore. I’m still traumatized over Boyle leaving & I feel like history is going to repeat itself. This movie needs to hurry up & start filming ASAP.

With or without Henry Cavill in a supporting role?

@peter you well know that “James Bond” is a code name ; after decades of not seeing the torched passed, will finally see the current Bond hand off to the future Bond. Following the ceremony, Agent Rodney Lipshitz, portrayed by Henry Cavill, will exit M’s office, with a twinkle in his eye he says to Miss Moneypenny, “ Hello, my name is Bond, James Bond” to which she, knowingly, seductively, replies, “ but of course you are... James.
    Cue gun barrel

Does that mean we’ll get to see Daniel Craig in the new Lipshitz movie?

I am seriously considering boycotting this particular thread as it does nothing for me. For instance, I was last on the boards yesterday afternoon and I find roughly 110 new posts that have amounted to, well, nothing but speculation, hand-wringing, cynicism and fear.

I get especially wary of these "insiders" that so many of you cling to for some morsel of information. That's the problem with this age that anybody with a keyboard or webcam can have people eating out of their hand.

None of it does anything to enhance my enthusiasm for a new Bond film and I think I'll stick to discussing the other films I've enjoyed for years along with MI and certain others. Alert me when there's real news.
