You know things are starting to happen when we have to start using spoiler tags in this thread. ;)
Regarding the news of a flashback scene, I don’t have a problem with it. If it fits the narrative, then why not. If it features a young Madeleine in the story she told Bond in SP about the two men who came to visit her father.
One of whom is obviously Blofeld, what if the other was a young Spectre agent? Maybe this is how Rami Malek is involved (If he appears in Bond 25) finishing unfinished business perhaps.
  • Felix and Beam...just the name sounds like a semi-dramatic sitcom taking place before the latter gets fired in which they travel the world with all these jokes and politics and how Felix is conflicted often with making his own judgement calls based on ethics versus following Beam's orders.

Perhaps the mini film could display Beam getting fired and can show a scene in the future of Monica Belucci meeting Felix in the U.S. at the end. It would make for a great tie-in to promote Bond 25 and sell more dvd copies of the older films or box sets.

This would be a sales-driver for blu-ray sales of Bond 25 or the re-release of any Bond movies prior to Bond 25 getting released as a tie-in to the film.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Madeleine’s character being more thoroughly explored and perhaps revealing there is more to her than meets the eye. It was never my preference for her to return at all, but if they’re going to do it, making her character far more interesting this time around than in SP is a welcome idea to me. If done right it could be pretty cool. Maybe use the title “The Property of a Lady,” in a sense Madeleine is sinister and owns Bond until he turns the tables? Or it could be a more complicated situation like Vesper where Madeleine does have feelings for Bond but also has SPECTRE ties.

Madeline knows more , she is the only one in spectre who says and knows the name of the organization , spectre

I'm not totally against the idea of exploring Madeleine's past as long as it's done right. I just have to wonder how big of a part she is going to have in this film. I can't believe they are thinking that the general audience is even going to remember who she is. Most of my family are either casual fans or just have the slightest interest in Bond and I doubt they remember much about SP at this point, much less a year from now. Or any Bond film for that matter except for the most iconic scenes and characters etc... A surprising development indeed.

Does it really matter though how much of Madeleine/SP is originally remembered? If they’re taking it in a new direction and execute it well, it should be fine. Not too different from just having a new character.

Wow, just saw this on Archivo007. Apparently a French Casting Agency confirms what we were speculating yesterday.

yeah I posted the link to the tweet yesterday and a similar one where link still works and there is more info in the casting call. BTW, that Tweet was not deleted but the link has gone because it was from back in January

If they start off the story with Bond and Madeleine married and living in a log cabin it might confuse people, but if they move on from it quickly then it won't matter I suppose. It just depends on how big of a part of the story she is and if they bring Blofeld back. How much of SP will they be asking us to remember? There's a risk involved in that I think.

We’ll see. Who knows how they’ll depict Bond and Madeleine together? I think if it’s done well it won’t confuse audiences too much. If I had to guess, they can make it all work without requiring a ton of SP knowledge. Despite the ill-advised retconning and callbacks to previous films, one could still watch and understand SP pretty easily.

That's my worry as well. As an example: I have friends who have seen CR more than one time, but who still can't remember who Vesper is. I had to explain the point of the interrogation tape in SP to them after we saw the film at the cinema.

Are the spoiler tags really necessary? It's not like this is a leaked script we're talking about.

I believe the mods requested this. Could be wrong though

Marketing 101 with Mick Philpott there, ladies and gents.

There is a subtle flashback in OHMSS. Bond stares out the window in M's office and a flashback image of Tracey being pulled unconscious from the avalanche is reflected in the glass.

And in MR, Bond, trapped in the centrifuge, recalls short and sharp images of Q demonstrating the wrist dart.

But this Bond 25 rumour might be the first time we get a full on dramatic flashback.
If not already mentioned, consider the Casino Royale pre-title sequence, flashing back (and forth) to the first kill (and second).

Also in Die Another Day Bond flashes back to his North Korean torture with scorpions as he stops his own heartbeat and escapes from the hospital ship in the kerfuffle when they resuscitate him.

And separately--gosh and respectfully. Mathis wasn't a code name.

Yes, of course. CR really is a solid flashback.

Bladerunner 2049 invited guest directors to create associated short films to marry up to the main narrative of the movie. These were shot separately, I believe one of them was directed by Ridley Scott's son, but did feature actors and sets from the main film. They released these prior to the main film to create buzz. https://youtu.be/UgsS3nhRRzQ

Maybe we're interpreting the news too literally, hence why it doesn't fit with the expected production schedule. Though I must confess that it would feel like a departure for EON to do this. One area I've really felt is in need of attention is marketing and more precisely the need for some sort of immersive participation campaign and better fan engagement.

The Brosnan movies always had pretty decent campaigns, I remember my school a the time getting some tenuous Tomorrow Never Dies sponsored Health and Safety CD-ROM. Would be great to see what Gary Rosen could accomplish with some budget - he did the Dark Knight viral campaigns.

Of course, they had to delete the tweet. Whatever the film this casting call was for, it took place in January. If they don't delete it, people may see the tweet and try to apply for their daughter regardless it's too late.

How can one do a casting nowadays with social media?

It does curiously add up. Perhaps, Lea Seydoux is more pivotal to this film than we imagined.

Lea Seydoux is making a number of other films at the moment that this could also be for including:

    The Story of My Wife
    Roubaix, a Light
    The French Dispatch

All about to start filming or are filming now. Bond 25 isn't filming in France to our knowledge, but that doesn't been a casting call hasn't gone out already.

The only thing I have hard time with at the moment is the thought that they'd have a scene with a young Madeleine in Craig's final film. If they are building a house in Norway, then I can only suppose that this is a set-piece involving Bond. i think Daniel Craig will be front and centre this time out.

Have not watched SP for ages but was there not a scene where Swann talks about a childhood memory about a man with a gun? Perhaps they will expand on that?

Gosh Seydoux is so beautiful. So glad she’s back. Any news about the official star of filming? Because based on the official information they should start in just 5 bloody days, even if it’s obviously unlikely since the delay plus Burns work...

She references the fact the man didn’t realise her father kept a Beretta 9mm under think sink - or that she was upstairs in her bedroom. There’s a very good chance this tallies with the rumoured scene.

...this might suggest some Marvel de-aging on Christensen.

Is it too much to ask for him to share a scene with Amalric, Bardem and Waltz in cameo?

as cool as it would be it would be as expensive as that scene conceived of in Batman Unchaigned where The Joker The Penguin Riddler Two Face and Mr Freeze all put batman on trial

Honestly I am curious to see what comes of all this I will say this the more I think about it for me personally if Bond 25 is not a title of Fleming's preferably a short story title I will be upset. Yes I know I am in the minority here but hell use the one title 95% of fan like (risico) and I still will be beaming

I'm willing to bet at least 70% of the people here will dislike the title.
I’m certain it’ll be an original title this time around and that this
flashback sequence will only be a way to reinforce Madeleine’s desdain for killing, or a way to give us new information on that specific memory in order to contrast it to the one she gave Bond in the train
This is what I believe solely because it’s the simpler and more convenient hypothesis to the narrative.

if its Original count me in the 70%... there is no excuse to not use a Fleming title
