"Overhaul" could just literally have meant a thorough shooting polish, from start to finish. But of course that wouldn't grab headlines, would it?

You're correct, sir. But when one is given the assignment for an "overhaul", it usually means a page one re-write. However, and to the point...--

Recently I was accused of "being quiet".

As I said at the time, I was far from quiet. I was in constant communications with posters that actually like Bond and I continued chatting about the little morsels I knew. None of what I have reported is a lie-- a release date may have changed, but I, and others, were not lying about what we knew, lol!

Ten days, or more ago, I posted to readers that the "overhaul" that was reported in the PL article (and made me lose my shit), was exaggerated.

I reported to those that care to read my nonsense, that the script was only being "polished with the same story, same characters that was there in the previous drafts" (when I heard this, I went to a trusted source on this site, and he knocked this point home).

I stand by these claims that I stated over a week ago. I suppose variety gives a little more insight.

Others who I chatted with-- ten or more days ago-- will agree to this too: I said there was no overhaul. It was a polish (and smarter people than me on this site, knew that too (they knew coz they r smart; me dummy)).

The only thing I was not privy to at the time was that the draft we were talking about came from CF himself (holy. and. shit!!)

Continuing on this point, I was disturbed to hear that my/or other sources could be validated if, blah, blah, blah, and all I have to say to that, respectfully, is this: no one is lying to us. I can't speak for others, but I believe those (outside of the internet scavengers), have legit information. But--

Information in the film world changes moment by moment (a small sample: Bombay (I think), was locked for the PTS for SF; that changed to Istanbul in a blink.

Bombay was locked, until it wasn't, and things moved to Istanbul for (I think), better tax incentives).

@PanchitoPistoles, you say my "source(s)" can be validated if Jamaica holds up. Uh... okay. But, I said more (and I suppose, risk your wrath):

We should see how much has changed in the scripts from my reporting on this site, to the date now-- but I can assure you that anyone in production will report B25 was:

#1 In Jamaica for scouting, led by Gregg Wilson (and he stayed at Ian Fleming's GoldenEye while he was there)(as a secondary source, he may have been there with second unit).

#2: Cadiz or Matera Italy will stand in for Tuninsia (or maybe Greece? which I didn't hear about???, but Tuninsia (or another Middle east city, but I heard the Big T), unless exorcised by Burns)

#3: Malek agreed to being in B25 BEFORE Oscar night (what is happening now is crossing "t"s and "I"s)

    #4 as I have said since Day 1: I believe Norway will happen, but I didn't hear about Norway from my "sources" until the past week. Repeat, I admit, I never heard about Norway, unless from this site (therefore admitting shortcomings, lol);

#5: although Variety reported March 4 as the start date, I never said that was the date-- I said March 2019... And, shit, I will still say that shooting will happen in March 2019 (if not, shoot me on this).

    EDIT:

#6: this dummy speculated (from ppl closer than me), that Boyle was fired; that he wanted to change the "culture of Bond. This has been documented long enough from me...

Things change on a film set. But this is what I know.

None of these things are a lie.

Don't worry my friend, there are still ones here who appreciate what you do and your honesty.

I can testify to being one of those that you have been most forthcoming with news.

    +1!

BTW it's interesting that the CIA agent part has been rewritten by Fukunaga in order to suite a younger actor. Perhaps P&W wanted Leiter back but then again schedule conflicts made them change the role? Would be nice to have a cameo by Wright, at least. If they indeed cast Magnussen the CIA agent is not gonna be a good pal like Felix, I presume.
  • All for AVTAK inspiration in bond 25. 1. Cary should take inspiration based on his personal history with bond 2. Though it isn’t high in my ranking, AVTAK is certainly a fun watch, and the walken + jones villain pair largely make the film. Really the best bond films have ensembles of interesting villains (frwl, tb, lald, tld, ltk, ge), and we have yet to have this with Craig.

Big casting news - Billy Magnussen is EON's top choice for Leiter-esque CIA agent role

He was hilarious in 'Game Night' so great news.
  • Exciting news recently. I love that the cast is shaping up. Just want to know who will play the new Bond girls.

I also hope that like @jake24 says
The kid cast is somehow related to Malek's middle eastern villain and not a child of Bond or a young Maddy. That would be reassuring.

Billy Magnussen - maybe he’ll do the literary Richard Lovelace Dikko Henderson thing.

Best possible AVTAK tribute would be for Craig to emit a sort of Rog-esque "Who-oa!" noise repeatedly through the film.

The younger CIA guy thing is interesting. Like most, I would have loved Wright to beat Hedison's record and pop up again in the post-QoS milieu.

Apparently, Billy is a massive Bond fan, it's something that he's talked about a lot and is well known for. Interestingly there's a funny connection to Jeffery Wright in that he's best friends with Jimmi Simpson who plays opposite Wright in Westworld.

I did laugh out loud when I read this. My friends love that final scene with Roger dropping the soap, followed by that "Who-oa". Much speculation has been had about what exactly was going on in that shower cubicle.

    This tweet made me laugh...

Billy Magnussen isn't really that great an actor. He seems to exclusively play fratboy douches. I suppose this could be a reflection of America at the moment, considering the current temperament of the President who's out bragging about his penis size and how many supermodels he's had sex with. I can see Magnussen playing a corrupt CIA agent in this vein.

Jeff Snieder updated his report to say that Lupita is being eyed for a role - but she may not be interested. I guess she's playing the Bond girl role that is described as being akin to Olga Kurylenko's part.

I suspect that whoever plays the MI6 agent will be an an english actress. It be helpful to know ages! Is this the protege? Is she someone in her 30s/40s?

If they want an older actress, they should almost certainly get Rachel Wesiz

    cq5dam.web.738.462.jpeg

If they go younger, then Sonoyo Mizuno is an actress just waiting to become a huge star

    sonoya-mizuno-the-big-picture-at-cinemacon-2018-in-las-vegas-4.jpg

What's important to remember from Kroll's report - the girls are the leading roles. Perhaps Baz will break something tonight?
  • A possible theory about plot:
Many of us have been speculating about the 'Madeline Problem' and the narrative corner that EON painted themselves into with SP. What if the 'young Madeline' device/flashback is going to be used as a nice out for the character?

Eg., Madeline and Bond are living a quiet life somewhere, Bourne-style, and despite everything Madeline keeps having these awful flashbacks. She decides that she can't be with James because of their shared past, and takes off solo to go sort her head out. James, newly single, is thrust back into his old life when a messenger arrives bearing an envelope that reads 'Your Eyes Only' . . . .and. . . gunbarrel!

I don't like the idea of Madeline being central to the plot again.
I didn't think they had great chemistry in SP let alone another Bond film 5 years later .

I wonder what the late, great Sir Roger would make of all this.

And Jeffrey Wright has an uncredited cameo in Game Night.

Anyway, that doesn't mean that Wright can't be back for Bond 25. Most of the rumors we have are about new parts that they need to cast, and agents get short descriptions of these parts. That's the stuff that leaks easily. They can more easily keep a low profile when it comes to contacting someone who was already part of the franchise. Then, it's up to the production or the actors themselves (if they're allowed to) to make an announcement.

Otherwise, I wouldn't speculate on Sonoya Mizuno. Fukunaga already worked with her a few months ago on Maniac. Both are half-Japanese, which isn't very common in the industry and creates some kind of connection. And, as Fukunaga definitely had a hand in the Asian references on Maniac, he may even be responsible for casting her. She has the looks (not necessarily in Maniac...) to be a James Bond girl, but if she was the person he had in mind for the part, she would be already locked in at the point, as she would have been contacted early during pre-production.

He wouldn't mind. He was Sir Roger after all. And lets face it the first major overhaul in the franchise was to strip away the grounded and generally serious minded aspects of the films and go for the big laughs and the big stunts. And that was Roger's era. Moonraker had little in common with From Russia With Love. Roger didn't make demands about the way the films were changing back then. His pay cheque was too big.

So, now in 2020, we find that Bond has to keep evolving and changing in order to attract the audiences. It's natural.

I liked it better when filming was supposed to begin March 4th. We'd most likely be discussing the press conference at this point. Possibly the title.

No one can disagree with that. We all wanted to be talking about the press conference right now. And I’m sick of calling it Bond25. Really want a good imaginative title for Craig’s last. Someone at ajb007 conjured Swannsong as a possibility. Although it’s a one word title starting with an S again, it could very well be fitting. Still hoping for something smarter though.

    1. At this point it's common knowledge that the sources of @Risico007 and @ggl007 have a 0% success rate. The source of @peter still has a shot at redemption IF Jamaica does turn out to be a filming location.

I would like to see the long titles make a comeback. 'Swannsong' has been mentioned here a few times before. I kinda like it, even if it's a tongue-in-cheek joke title unlikely to be chosen by EON. Entertaining the idea for one second though... I can honestly say I wouldn't be bothered one bit.

  • So we know there are four key roles in Bond 25 that need to be cast. I think two will be film stars (Rami/Lupita) and the other two will be lesser known (Billy/???)

    1.) The Villain

    giphy.gif

It looks as though Eon have set Rami Malek for the role. Considering he has just come off a Best Leading Actor Oscar, this is a huge coup. Also, Malek would be the first Egyptian actor to play a Bond villain - which is great. We can assume that Eon wanted a 'name' actor, possibly with a Middle Eastern look, that is younger than Bond. What clues does this give us about his character? Oil tycoon? Sheikh? Having said that, Malek could easily play a Russian.

    2.) CIA Agent

    proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-hZrKomjH7rw%2FVJ2_qrLcfJI%2FAAAAAAAB-_E%2FepgTL-Pj3Kk%2Fs1600%2F55.gif&container=blogger&gadget=a&rewriteMime=image%2F*

Even if Wright does return as Leiter, Variety's report seems to suggest that the new CIA agent is key o the film. There's a chance he's an evil CIA agent working with Malek (Craig should fight this guy). However, there is also the possibility that he's the new Felix Leiter. Either way, it's clear that this is a key supporting role. Magunussen is hardly a 'star'. So it seems Eon want some lesser known names in the supporting cast.

    3.) Female role

    1*oFSuC_7vbDOes1tIRviULg.gif

This is the hardest role for me to understand. She is seemingly playing the secondary Bond girl, but we also know from Variety that the part is akin to Olga Kurylenko in QOS (which was that film's lead). I think Variety have their wires crossed and that we may be getting an evil Bond girl. This is surely the part that Lupita is up for. However, despite being a Kenyan actress, there is a chance they may ask her to do an English accent and play the...

    4.) MI6 Agent

There has been talk of this being the protege. We can assume that Eon want an English actress. I suspect this person is the female lead. I have a feeling that Eon will go for an up and coming actress for the part. Hopefully, someone who isn't a 'name' - especially considering some of the names already attached or circling the film. So you'd have two stars and two lesser known names.

0 chances Felix would be recast. The fact that Fukunaga changed the part of the CIA agent to make it suitable for a younger actor sounds like the character is not Felix. BTW Malek parents are Egyptian, but he was born and raised in LA. So he's American.

Regarding Lupita, well, maybe they made the comparison with Camille just because she has a deep connection with the baddie. having said that I don't see her carrying the role of the main Bond girls. What if there's not goin to be a "main" Bond girl this time around?

The new MI6 agent sounds strange to me. Since Harris role has been expanded, probably this new character won't have a lot of screen time. Maybe a replace for Tanner?

Regarding Malek - your ethnicity doesn't change based on your nationality. My parents are from India and I was born in England. I sound British, but my heritage is not. Th same stands for Malek.

Lupita could more than carry the leading role in a Bond film. in fact, Eon would be very lucky if she said yes. I mean Kevin Feige, the Academy and milions of moviegers would disagree with you:

It's about time this series embraced more POC. I'm so very excited by this cast. This is in no way, Eon trying to be politically correct, they are just casting the best people around who would draw a bigger audience and get more box office receipts. It all comes down to the money at the end.
