And, for a spy franchise, EON can at times fail to keep anything secret, so maybe the reason why so much hasn't spilled out yet was simply because they were wrapped up in other affairs and have only recently turned to developing Bond 25? Hopefully they get Dan to decide soon, if he hasn't already, so this can really kick off.
Well it would make sense for Paul McGuigan and Barbara Broccoli to have met recently. He is directing 'Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool' starring Jamie Bell and produced by Barbara Broccoli.
Is Bond 25 going to be a sequel to SPECTRE even if Craig won't star in it?
My thoughts exactly. When you have this string of continuity, it's very difficult to write a script without knowing who your lead actor is.
If they announced they're adapting one of the books, that would be exciting.
I mean does EON really think they matched CR with any of the follow ups? CR is so liberally (but semi-organically) based on the book and their success really should have clued them into following that path. It eliminates the need to start with a blank piece of paper. They can create parts that need altering, update things that can remain, while ornamenting with great chases and set pieces. Otherwise they spend forever just trying to get a half way decent spine of a story (usually with missing pieces) and it's all heavy lifting with marginal success. EON fucked over so many of the books that a lot of them would feel totally original anyway. And after 50 plus years, I'm okay with them using all the books.
Quantum of solace I felt was an orignal movie worthy of a Fleming title and was just fantastic...
The essence of Fleming is something that EoN and any writer coming on board a Bond film should be fluent in but the core of crafting together an action thriller story is where EoN need to be ardent to pursue. EoN struggling to get this right for some tome now is a huge frustration especially as other films and TV shows are capable of the degree of writing Bond needs.
I won't be happy until EoN bone up and take this aspect of film making seriously. I want a return to the magical times that I know zbond is more than capable of being.
I think what people mean by "using Fleming" in Bond films are instances in which whole plots/developments from the novels are use-not throwaway lines, character names or easter eggs-or films that ape the Fleming novels in how they make you feel, hence them being considered "Fleming-esque."

Moonraker is very much like CR... waiting to be made into a great film.
The magical times were the 60s when they were adapting the books. It's not like there haven't been other writers who have tried in screenwriting and in continuation novels to bring Bond back to that level.

The physical description of Drax the World War Two elements London being the target were in Goldeneye
The plot and many of the characteristics were in Die another day
The only things left are Gala brand and the card game and M asking bond to flush out a card cheat that is about it maybe that could be used in the next film but honestly would I prefer diamonds are forever to be adapated
While the book might be quite a great read a direct translation to the big screen would make for a dated and frankly boring movie. The three interpretations of this book have given us very decent movies with MR & GE being frankly very good and DAD somewaht Bombastic and over the top. When I found the patricide by the main villain very underused that was actually something they could have dwelled upon a wee bit more in the movies finale, making it more about honor thy father as 007 honors his mum (M). And less poorly devised CGI would have helped as well.
Moonraker has been done while other books like LALD & YOLT still have large parts never used.
That's exciting, @talos7. As a Bond fan, I have assembled a list of 'must-dos' for you to complete while sipping mojitos in the exotic setting.
1.) You must court a woman picking up seashells on the shore.
*Bonus Bond points if her name turns out to be Honey and she has on a white bikini with a knife sheathed to it. And she greets you coming out of the water.
2.) While on a snorkeling adventure, court a woman from the depths of the ocean, and search her thighs for moles.
*Bonus Bond points if she turns out to have at least one mole on her left thigh. Extra bonus Bond points for two moles.
3.) Go bird watching with a woman in a rip-of forange bikini of the girl in task #1, then take her bird watching before you show her your own exotic bird around the midnight hour.
*Bonus Bond points if this woman is Halle Berry.
4.) Look out for a girl who may be drowning in the water dressed in a radiant gown. She may be a complex woman who is committing suicide for equally complex reasons, and if you save her and give her a new reason to exist, she may end up marrying you and you with live happily ever after**. Actually, not so sure about that last part.
*Bonus Bond points if her name is Tracy and/or she's Italian. This might be a bit of a stretch in the Dominican Republic, but I'm sure you'll try your best.
**Note to self: Didn't work out too well for the last guy.
5.) On your way back home, take a train along your journey and if you see a drugged out blonde woman, save her, as she's an unwitting pawn in a complex scheme express from Mother Russia and SPECTRE. While on the train, be sure to wear a strong piece of curved metal over your neck for extra protection, because a blonde brute may try to garrote you with a piece of wire at an unspecified point. Trust me, I know. Or rather, the guy that completed task #4 knows.
*Bonus Bond points if you buy the woman you save a series of beautiful day gowns to wear. Extra bonus Bond points if you get into a fight with a strong blonde guy, and use his own garrote wire against him. On second thought, don't kill him. We don't want you to be a wanted man on the run internationally. Plus, the police could trace all your exploits back to me and I don't want thrown in the slammer with you. No offense.
If you survive all of this, you sir should win a commendation for greatness. Though it must be said that if you are already taken and in a committed relationship, only the first part of #4 and all of #5 are possible, and #5 is a bit out there, as it were. All the same, keep a score card handy and let me know how you fare.

If Dan returns, I'd love to see a scene set in Blades for Bond 25 where Drax is replaced at the table with a bunch of sleeper SPECTRE agents, and only Bond and M know this as they play. The scene could then develop organically from there, as MR kicks off with M wanting to feel out Drax as a man, with Bond's help. Replace Drax with a man M might have a tip on SPECTRE about for Bond, and bam, there you have it.
Currently 74% think Craig should come back. 12 % want Hiddle. 6% want Elba and 6% want a woman (including myself). 3% want Turner.
