I would actually be interested to hear what the man himself, Cubby, would say about the expended roles for Q/MP/M since TWINE, as for 16 films he kept their role to a minimum (apart Q in LTK, but his screen time adds up to 5 minutes at most).

I doubt he would like their expanded roles. I think he would have been against anything that takes the focus away from Bond.

I think the " Home Team" were there to add some light relief, a touch of humour
and to set up the plot. :)

Can't I just watch FYEO, YOLT, LTK, and QoS again???
  • Just checked Paddy Power and yet again we have a new favourite. James Norton has fallen to second and this time it's Jack Huston's time at the top. His odds have been slashed to 11/10. What the heck is going on with these bookies?

Maybe Jack Huston is at the top because he's the only one with a major blockbuster coming out soon? (Ben-Hur next month).

If Norton looks like Stoltz then Hutton favor a Depp.

No point to that comment... just babble.

Redoing Ben Hur is such a nonsense. The original can't be bettered. But strangely enough, after the initial announcement, I never heard anything about it again.

You can check out the Ben Hur trailer. Huston is no Chuck Heston and, like so many big films today, it looks weighed down with CGI and they are also presenting it as an action revenge movie. Yawn.

@Germanlady, agreed, one of those "untouchable" movies that should never be remade, like 'Citizen Kane.'

I surprised with the Hollywood latest idea of having all female casts they
Didn't rename it "Ben Her" ;)

Technically, wasn't 'Ben Hur' remade already, in 1959?

There was a really impressive silent version.

Yes, with Ramon Navarro. But - whatever you think of Hestons NRA past, he was so damn perfect as Ben Hur.

Not that it matters much, but the Charlton Heston version isn't the original. The 1959 movie was a remake of a silent movie. Here's the trailer.

You mean the one from 1925 or the short version from 1907?

It would take at least a hundred years to balance out the countless all male cast movies, so there's no point really. I wish they'd just balance contents and portrayals in the movies, plus make good movies.

I don't think I've ever come across an actual all female cast movies despite watching movies all the time, so I suspect they must be incredibly rare. I've seen plenty of all male cast movies, though, not intentionally, but there are so many of them that it just happens...

The Descent springs to mind, but yes, female-only casts are a much rarer breed than male-only casts, and moving forward, bearing in mind that story ultimately is the most important thing, a more even representation would be nice to see.

After so many male representations of the character, it certainly would be nice to see the films return to their literary roots. Let us not forget this immortal line from Casino Royale, where it all began:

"As a woman, he wanted to sleep with her but only when the job had been done." (p. 34)

    There's no contesting Fleming, folks.

Ben Hur was a great book. Did we even need a movie?

Oh definitely. If there ever was a film better then the book....and yes, I did read the book. I even owe it.

"Ben-Hur", in my theory of course, is also based on the real tale (not just in the book, but in historical fact).
