Much as I love Bond movies, every other year seems too often -- takes some of the special-event feeling away from the films. Three years in-between feels comfortable and should allow for development of a strong movie. Four years feels too long and reflects on the series property. And, alas, a longer wait doesn't always mean a better movie. (The second Independence Day was okay … but certainly not worth a 20-year wait.) On the other hand, TMWTGG was okay … but by the time TSWLM came out (three years later) people were excited about another Bond movie … and it was everything you could have hoped for.

On the otherhand though, these big gaps seem to create a high sense of anticpation that often has felt anti-climatic once we have the final product. I.e. the event aspect outshadowing the film itself. I felt the same with The Force Awakens, people were talking about it long before it came out, building it up, that it was inevitable that there would be a feeling of disappointment, even though I did still enjoy the film. I think this is a problem with our internet age, it's possible to know a lot about a film during its production before you see the film.

I can definitely say that this happened to me in 2015. In 2012 on the other hand, I was over the moon with the product, which I felt made the long 4 year wait worthwhile.

I wasn't all that impressed with QoS on release, but since it arrived a scant two yrs after CR, I wasn't all that disappointed either. Additionally, I thought we'd get another one in 2010 (big mistake, I know...).

At the end of the day, I'd prefer more frequent releases. Everybody makes more money that way, and fans like myself are more likely to be satisfied without the long wait.

I don't think this will happen until we get a more youthful leadership regime at EON, which will likely happen in the next 10 yrs.

I'm not getting any younger so selfishly I'd prefer a two year wait. Three years is probably a better pace.

Just give me a well made film and I'll be much happier.

If I assume correctly, @Birdleson was born in 1962, meaning he was 25 years old when the 15th Bond film was released during his lifetime. If we carry on with 3 years gap, I will be 45 years old once I witness a 15th outing in my lifetime (Bond 31 in 2036).

Which is why thinking ahead for the franchise is a tough deal with all these long gaps. For example, just thinking of Bond 26 means I'll probably have started my 30's by the time it is released.

I'll be at least 30 by the time 'Bond 26' releases, considering the next one won't be out for another three years or so.

I am now in between Sean in DAF, and Tim and Pierce's ages when they started. I can attest the 30s go by in a flash, and it does kind of suck when only 3 Bond films get released during that time frame. If these 3-4 year gaps keep going on I'm afraid I'll catch up to Roger in AVTAK by the time we get to the next Bond actor's second outing.

If EON was capable of creating a string of great movies, every two years would be fine, three years would be acceptable, four is just too long

There's too much math in this thread now. Can't we just go back to arguing about pointless topics??? [-(

Why do I have this sudden feeling that we won't be getting any Bond news until Babs' film (that's in production), Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool is released?

I believe that come November -- a year since SP -- Babs and Co will feel an obligation to give some kind of status, news or indication of the plan for Bond 25. Many are in agreement that we're not going to hit a two-year hiatus and a four-year space may send our younger audience in search of meaning in their 30s (BTW, long periods between films is no picnic for us older fans who worry just how many Bond films we have left at all!). If they're shooting for a three-year span, which they really should and should be able to do a damned good film with the right talent behind it, then November would seem an appropriate juncture to lay out the road ahead to "Blofeld and the Bondian Bugaloo."

I won't be surpised if Craig and Mendes come back nor would I be surpised if Tom Hardy is James Bond 007 in The Hildebrand Rarity... At being almost 30 and with everything that has happened to me personally this year (death and near divorce/rebirth of my marrage) no film news in the world would surpise me as much as real life has

Hope Mendes doesn't and seriously doubt he will.

I feel something or many somethings happened on SP that soured both Craig and Mendes.

IMO Mendes did not do a very good job on SP at all so I really don't want him back. I didn't feel that way after SF.

Last time, reunite the "Casino Royale band" of Campbell, Craig and , yes Arnold. Let them do what they did with CR, a reasonably faithful telling of one of Fleming's novels. It would make a great bookend for the Craig era.

It's up to EON. I'm hoping it's apparent by who they hire as director and writer for tone choices... Craig can deliver on whatever the script and director ask. So lets hope EON wants intensity and a writer and director who can execute that. Oh, and a Fleming adaptation.
