Gustav, I am not talking about Bond. There ARE more important things in the world, you know. Like I said many times before now, THEY, who are the powers, STEAL from us, LIE to us, DESTROY our planet and OUE HEALTH. And the likes of you are concerned about ethics? Come on, THAT is as ridiculous as it gets.

In a 3 minute interview on BBC Breakfast, promoting the new series of Poldark, Aiden Turner was asked a few questions about the show and then 'one final question' which was
    ''007 ?''
I didn't catch his reply, but it made me realise that since the media frenzy in the early 60s when they were casting for the first Bond, the appetite for Bond has never abated in this country. We Brits remain as obsessed as ever with our one and only cinematic action hero.
Every half decent looking actor gets asked the question. And they know better than to sound desperate (sure fire way to be disregarded by Eon) so they brush it aside with a joke.

Amazing how the legend has endured, and probably grown. Actors simply want to be James Bond. Even actors who took themselves seriously like Daniel Craig (and maybe Timothy Dalton) succumbed to the lure of Bond.
    Long may it continue.

No, they don't. Get the truth dragged out, that would be a good plan. Sure, amongst their hacks were unnecesary and probably unnecessary hurtful things, but overall, this is what we need. Someone having the guts to bring the truth into the light of the day. They did and, of course, they are hated for it by many so called "good and knowing right from wrong people". They, who wanna keep on hiding their monster in their closet, tell us, its not right. Of course, they do. because they shit their pants over more truth coming out...and it will. Hopefully.

And yeah, funnily enough, this is an highly detested opinion, but I stand by it. Very, very strongly.

    And I stand with you.

What's truly detestable are the lies, deceit and subterfuge; people and organisations in positions of influence abusing power, ruining and ending lives, subverting and flat out breaking the law to cover their own arses. We have a right to the factual truths and not some bullshit coverups posing as the truth. Some people clearly like being lied to and have this romanticised perception of the world that couldn't be more askew. Yet these exposed perpetrators are "victims" and "patriots", meanwhile the whistleblowers and those exposing and uncovering the facts and truths are enemies of the state and traitors. What a joke.

@Gustav, the Sony leaks were unfortunate and many innocent employees suffered but it also uncovered a whole lot of unprofessionalism, negligence and ignorance that those guilty have now had to take ownership of. In the grand scheme of things it exposed many things and although a comparatively trivial matter, Pascal advocating Elba as the next Bond is a factual truth that would have otherwise been relegated to the corridors of just tabloid name chucking amongst the other name of the week favourites as some here were even convinced was the actual case.

In any case, the Bond related stuff during the hacks is comparatively trivial to the whole Snowden and Wiki leaks stuff. @Gustav, this bubble you've created for yourself and live in is as artificial as the "truths" you're so happy to see swept under the carpet; but if you're content to keep swallowing the blue pill, then spare us your lectures on naivety and ethical social practices.
  • I think it's important to see that sometimes a stance or opinion works both ways @doubleoego.

    1) For every computer hack or wikileak truth and transparency will indeed come to the surface to a certain extend. But opposed to that, every computer hack or wikileak is still an act of crime when judged through the norms of western judiciary branch.

    2) And yes, I believe that secrecy, both in politics and business affairs, is an important part of our society. But opposed to that I also know that the perception and image of establishment politicians and rich CEO's will suffer greatly if they don't correct their negligence and ignorance.

Those two aspects are very important. But as of late, it seems that no establishment politician or influential director or CEO can't do any good anymore. Which is understandable in a society where populism, protectionism and neo-nationalism are on the rise.

But it isn't entirely fair to generalize this, so I stand up for our judiciary branch of western societies and good research journalism as opposed to hacking our society to death. For every Hillary Clinton or Amy Pascal, there's a Julian Assange. And the latter person is not just a wonderful 'Robin Hood', but also a narcissist fulfilled with hate towards one person, and he doesn't care if he destroys harmony, prosperity, unity and welfare in our societies with it. And he certainly doesn't care if that means that Daniel Craig gets a negative image because of it.

Good research journalism? Yes, they exist -like I said also many times - in the net, but certainly NOT for us to read or hear openly in mainstream media. Why? Because those few, who hold ownership of the media won't allow truth to be told openly. You dream, Gustav, very deeply.

But we should not discuss this in here. It can go to the President thread from here.

You're right @NicNac. Sorry :-). In the end I'm an avid Craig-supporter and I truly despise all the false news about 'who will be the next Bond'.

The word 'speculation' was added to the thread title which really opens it up I suppose.

I'm with you, Craig is Bond until we are told differently. Can't stop the press doing what they do. Glad they are interested enough to keep Bond on the front page though

This is a great thread. It's quite active and we've had some interesting rumours over the past few months. It's amusing to read everyone's opinions on the various choices to take over the coveted role. I'm still in the Hiddle camp, despite his recent off screen dalliance with Swift.

My pleasure @jake24. This thread has taken us nicely through spring and summer. Now we just need a little morsel of 'real news' from the EON camp, even if it's about the distributor, to start the next round of vigorous discussions here.

I agree with your assessment that Craig is going to be confronted on Bond soon enough as he comes out of hiding for Othello, and he will have to say something, even if it's to kick the can down the road.

It's going to be more of "forever and a day" that circles us around the aforementioned weathers one more time until we might just get an actual news. This year will be deserted regarding the topic... And we'll keep seeing more of the Bond candidate rumours that'll make us cringe... Heck, some of us even will end up insulting each other... As usual.

    That's the analysis. ;)

Other stories put British actors Tom Hughes (30) and James Norton (31) into the ring

You know, I don't want to derail this topic too much, but if you can't see the damage that has been done to the Bond franchise with this continuous tabloid nonsense about which actor will become the next Bond, then again you are naïve.

What damage? The tabloids giving Bond and EON free publicity for a year to keep Bond in the public's eye?

Only the most retarded actually believe any of these rumours, as we see the same bullshit from the papers in the fallow period between every Bond film.

If, in a few weeks, EON calmly announce Daniel Craig will return in B25 which will be released in October 2018 who will even remember the likes of Turner, Hiddleston or Hughes were ever serious contenders?

I agree with you on Elba though. This guy has managed to make a career out of being linked with Bond.
  • edited September 2016 Posts: 12,837
Nah. Pierce Brosnan made a career out of being linked with Bond (not criticising him, I love the guy, just using him as an example to contrast with Elba, noone had even heard of Remington Steele outside of the US, people just knew him because of the Bond association even before he got the role).

Elba has been linked with Bond because of his career, not the other way around. He's used it to his advantage sure but he'd be very successful regardless. It's Luther he owes his career to (I know there's The Wire but he didn't seem to become a household name off the back of that, it was after Luther he started getting higher profile gigs and film roles).

I don't blame him really. He probably knows he won't get it so why not respond to all the questions and get some free publicity? It's not like he started it himself. And I will say that while there's no chance of him actually getting the role I think he'd have been great and I prefer him to ant of the other candidates mentioned. At least he looks like a man. So many of the suggested actors just look way too fresj faced. And we're suggesting Hughes for a period piece/adaptation of the novels too now? Modern Bond, not my preference but he could get away with it. But no way is that the face of a heavy smoking hard drinking WW2 veteran.

Maybe it just depresses me that, for the first time ever, I'm likely to be older than the actor playing Bond (my childhood hero), but I think given how fresh faced actors are nowadays, the minimum age should be at least mid 30s imo. That still gives them enough time to get about 4 or 5 films out of them (and it's unlikely for any actor to do more than that really, regardless of age). Right now the ideal scenario for me would be that DC comes back for one more, and then during the gap between now and Bond 26 Jack O Connell ages noticeably so he's ready to take over.

this is all going to be for laughs when Craig eventually says he'll be coming back for one last go....

    just wishful thinking of course...

but with nothing concrete coming out, and it's already September of 2016 (granted, we are still well over 16 months away from the start of principle photography of Bond 25, if the November 2018 is still in place.), i want to believe that all of this media and tabloid gibberyjoo is just all crap, and behind the scenes - even with EON's non-Bond film under production, they've been steadfast and diligent about working on Bond 25...

but at the same time.. we haven't even gotten confirmation on any writers working on the script - so, that would lead me to believe that they haven't begun hard work on it yet, and probably wont start until early next year... Meaning Craig's decision could take longer, and we could be waiting until 2019 for the next film..

    @jake24 Great summary.
After wading through all that, it really does raise the question of what's going on w Craig.
I suspect it might simply be business on his part.
ie he won't have anything to say until Babs puts an actual firm offer on the table.
If that's the case then it's her that's holding things up.
It's also possible that they have an informal understanding, thus no sense of urgency, thus they can put any announcement off till they get down to hammering out a deal.
Personally I think Babs is working to her own timetable, and that Craig is waiting for her to firm things up.

It's less than a year since the release of Spectre. I wouldn't expect to hear anything solid for another year. I just kick back and enjoy the other 24 films and novels. Books about the Bond franchise and re-evaluating the bond films. There will be another Young Bond book out and a continuation novel no doubt. Things are rosy.

It certainly looks that way, but it would have been the first time in many years where we didn’t have any substantial news by that point. I'm optimistic that we'll hear something soon.
