Personally I find SF and SP to be as much apart as DN and DAD. It's astonishing both movies were made by the same director and team.

But yes, SF immediately had this aura "instant classic" around it. Even before it hit the theaters.

SF appealed to the mainstream movie goers as it features silly drama and tearjerker scenes, soap opera elements etc.

No matter how you look at it, EON did everything right in 2012. And it's obvious a vast majority liked it immensely and the nostalgia around that movie experience will make a lot of people talk about Skyfall decades from now.

Even if I didn't like SF I am eternally grateful it happened solely for the reason Bond finally got into Box Office territory where it is certain the franchise will go on forever and a day.
SP was proof EON succeeded in that. I have no doubt Bond 25 will make 880 million as well.

I remember hearing an ex girlfriend and some of her girlfriends posting about how "Adele is goals", "Going to see SF because Adele!!!" , and then afterwards they would post "Adele was the best part of the film", I am not even kidding a lot of people worship Adele. Sam smith is a good singer don't get me wrong but having him sing something slow was a huge disappointment should've had more of an upbeat song. The music is a big part of the films success

Sky fall for all its logic flaws felt confident, comfortable with itself and different.

Spectre felt like watching a 'top ten bond moments' compilation on YouTube grafted together with little narrative drive or coherence.

Add to that the truly bizarre creative decisions to remove the entire population of rome from the car chase, get Monica belluci to read her lines like someone who can't converse in English, an M who spends all his time fretting about the morality of spying on people, a henchman who's mission still baffles me, a small world climax that makes no sense whatsoever (did blofeld fly back to London in the hope Madeleine would leave bond so he could kidnap her to place her in the derelict building who's demolition team spectre have somehow infiltrated on the same chance? If Madeleine doesn't get kidnapped are spectre just the regular demolition contractor?).

    Seriously...?

'Adele is goals'? I hope you got rid of her. Permanently.

"Adele is goals"? What is that even supposed to mean? Proper language is dying a slow and unceremonious death in the age of social networking, LOLs and ROFLs. What did we do to deserve this?

Mate, I've had bugger all to do all day. I am absolutely knackered.
What a damp squib this thread has become. I want to chunder all over it.
Sure Adele is goals. Don't you fancy some good stawberry creams?

I guess you lost the plot. Be wicked! You Toff!

@BondJasonBond006, that kind of slang speak I don't mind, because it gives a character to the parts of the world where it's prevalent, or the cultures it exists in, much like the 90s surfer and skater speak. In many ways it expands language and gives the world's people a further variety of words to express common items and emotions with.

What I don't like, however, is when people resort to stupid acronyms instead of just typing out the actual words they want to express. Worse yet are those who say "hashtag" and "LOL" out loud, and not in text form. Those people I find it hard to be around without wanting to murder.

There are "people" saying LOL ? Hashtag I can understand almost, but LOL? Seriously?
Well that's deplorable and just bloody wrong.

Hashtag sounds like an insult anyway LOL

I had to look that one up ("is goals", that is). I learnt something new today. Always good.

Care to inform us as to the meaning, @bondjames? In the future I'd like to at least know why I'm punching the person in the face who is saying it.

@BondJasonBond006, spending four long years at a university full of kids who have an inseparable relationship with their cell devices, don't read books and spend their time partying in competitions for popularity have made me brush shoulders with all kinds of kids I have wanted to assault. I have seen stupidity in its purest form, and daily stood by with my head resting in my palm witnessing the bloody murder of the languages and lexicons of the word I cherish so much. I'd rather not speak much more of it; it brings about PTSD like tremors in my person.

This is the best definition I've found @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7. Apparently it's mainly used by teenage girls.

    Goals
    When something looks good.
Use like this: “Your outfit/hair/purse is goals.”

By the way, the it word in Switzerland with the youths is YOLO.
I hear it a lot and it means You Only Live Once. And yes an English expression is actually the Swiss-German word of the moment which is hilarious if not completely bonkers.

@bondjames, many thanks. Forgive me, but I am at a loss for how a word whose only meaning (when used by literate people) means to set a personal benchmark to reach can then be used to describe something that looks nice. It just seems confusing communication wise, in much the same way that no self-respecting person would use a noun like that as an adjective. Why not just say, "Hey, that outfit/hair/purse is very nice on you." Then you don't look like a thick-headed pustule in front of others and everyone understands your meaning.

At least cultural slang has some character and pizzaz to it when said, and it's all understood by people in that specific area, so there's no confusion amongst natives. Saying words ripped from internet and social media inspired speak like that just makes you sound like a twat (there's another good slang term).

SF appealed to the mainstream movie goers as it features silly drama and tearjerker scenes, soap opera elements etc.

And SP didn't? I get it you've got a downer on SF but it's a bit rich to slate it for elements it did competently that in SP were just embarassing - unless Blofeld being Bond's stepbrother isn't classed as 'silly drama' or 'soap opera'?
I remember hearing an ex girlfriend and some of her girlfriends posting about how "Adele is goals", "Going to see SF because Adele!!!" , and then afterwards they would post "Adele was the best part of the film", I am not even kidding a lot of people worship Adele. If she's such a big draw at the box office why aren't studios throwing millions at her to make 'Adele: the movie'?

Given she's single handedly responsible for SF's billion you'd think it would be a slam dunk.

Adele helped boost takings no doubt (as did the Olympics and the 50th) but the notion that most of the box office was made up of inane teenage girls is risible frankly.

That's a relief @BondJasonBond006. I'm new to this internet slang thing, so may get the contextual bit wrong, as a novice. Forgive me.

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, I agree. I'm sick of the overuse of acronyms as well. Twitter and texting tend to exacerbate things, as does rampant smartphone use, where typing isn't as easy to do.

@BondJasonBond006, yet another example of this horrid epidemic of illiteracy I'm seeing everywhere. That acronym is on t-shirts, mugs, book bags and anything else you could imagine in the states.

@bondjames, you're also quite goals, my friend. You're one of the goaliest people on this forum, in fact. Wait, I think I flubbed there... Acting like a brain dead youth is hard, and I'm just out of teenage years myself!

Now, here's another big issue this term poses. What if it's nearing New Year's and, while people I know are making great resolutions for 2017, I want to take a quick moment to applaud their choice and new lifestyle direction? I can't say, "Your goals are goals," can I? I'd sound certifiable and just as illiterate as the rest of the people using the term!

    YOLO

We should all have goals to be goals. As a population we all need to wake up every day and strive to be better than ever before. Only then can our goals and overall goalish way of leading our lives become truly goals. Goals.
