He could do it; he, Craig and Arnold should go out in grans style.
  • It's not so much Campbell age now, if he directed the next film I could see that. Though if Campbell were to film Bond26 we could be looking at best part of a decade time. Bond is so action heavy I think it is harder going than making most other types of film.

None of the recent films by Eastwood(85) Miller(71) Scorsese(74) Ridley Scott (79) have been easy films.

I imagine it being like the scene in SF at M's home, but Barbara playing M and Campbell playing Bond in the shadows.

"That's it then. We're both played out..."

"Then why come back? Because we're in trouble, and you know we need you."

Forget age, I don't think Campbell wants to return.

Has Craig ever said anything that would imply, or confirm, that of the three directors with whom he worked on Bond, that he has a favorite? I know it would only be speculation but I think it would be either Campbell or Mendes. I guess, in a round about way, I'm asking if he could have one of these three do another, which one would it be?

The wait is always the most difficult part of being James Bond fan. I pass time with watching my favorites films.
But I can understand why this is having people troubled. Earlier it was a certainty next one will arrive within three years. Now not so sure anymore.

Nothing explicit, but my money would be on Mendes.

I still think if it's Craig, it's Mendes, regardless of what has been said. Otherwise, expect a total shakeup of everything, with perhaps Fiennes or Whishaw back.

If it will be Mendes again, I will go to the cinema quite reserved and not so anticipating like I did with SP. Which could be better since I may not feel that disappointed again.

I have to laugh, 73 is not the same for all people; look at Eastwood(85) Miller(71) Scorsese(74) Ridley Scott (79) I've seen footage of Campbell recently, he is a fit, energetic, healthy 73. Bring on Bond 25!.............With that said, yes it is a rather safe prediction that he will never again direct a Bond movie, but it won't be because of age.

These guys get their own movies greenlit. The likelihood of EON 'employing' a 74 year old is minimal to nil. You're kidding yourself if you think age is not a factor.

They have to find out a way to bring flippant, irreverent Bond back, that much is certain. They can't keep making gritty, emotional stories forever. They should have stopped doing that after Casino, but there we have it. If you look at the world of politics and culture today, things are changing and fast. If they make another film that follows the Craig tropes of going rogue, mourning a loved one, and revealing something from Bonds past, I doubt they will capture the audience in the same way again.

@Mendes4Lyfe This post needs to be engraved on a gold plaque and sent to EON.

    Hear hear .

Campbell was only ask back to please Brosnan suporters.

But after Casino Royale i don't whan him back. But if there can promis another Goldeneye. Means no Alexander Witt and 3th writer who atleast under Bruce Feistein and real treat/story over Daniel Craig era. Who understand that Dominic Greene, Lucia, Camile, Felix, Vesper Video and Spectre humor in the car chase or Madagascar scene should return. No rush of gunbarrel or Q scene. Hildebrand and Property A Lady expections wil closer to Goldeneye or Octopussy updated with QOS/Spectre. Only left overs i whant from Skyfall are QOS lefts overs and return of Adele and reminder of lost card (mabey mixed up with that Vesper video in Spectre). No Astin DB5. New composer. Somebody who understand Blofeld spirit of idea's from OHMSS or FRWL and TB (Hide Blofeld) and more then one Blofeld element of DAF. Water story and somebody who understand it is Mi6 and CIA for World and not only for England.

Although I am ready for a new Director, I have to agree, especially with Mendes's latest planned project being scrapped over a rights issue. This could explain why things are now moving faster, and why Dan's tone is more towards a return.
  • I’m pretty sure that Craig will decide to return. He’s the only Bond to work with the Broccoli’s outside of the EON series and I’m sure he’ll come back for Barbara especially after she set up Othello for him (which is nothing if not a vanity project for Craig to prove he’s a ‘serious’ actor).

I think they’ll go to Mendes first – he may say no. But I reckon he’ll come back.

Otherwise, it pretty obvious to me that they’ll attempt to go in another direction. There is a big call for diversity these days and since the Bond films have only been directed by old white dudes, they’ll want to get someone ‘different’.

Since Hollywood has been called out for being racist over the last year and in the age of Trump, I can guarantee that either a female or minority director will do the next film. Take my word for it.

Sadly, we live in a transparent and corporate world – a place where progressivism is decided in advance to suit the company agenda. There is no reason why the Black Panther film or the Wonder Woman movie need to be directed by black or female directors. But because it fits the narrative of progressivism they are better suited than other projects. It’s a little transparent and obvious – but short of casting a minority actor as Bond – this is the clear next move by EON. Simply for the headlines – “First Female Director in Bond’s 50 year history”. It’ll be the same energy that highlighted Monica Bellucci’s age when her casting was announced.

They won’t sell it as a calculated move, but one that’s “right for the story”. I’m not a cynic but that’s just the corporate mentality at the moment.

There’s a lot of interesting names that fit the new paradigm, so there isn’t reason to complain.

All could make wonderful Bond films:

    Steve McQueen
    Ava DuVernay
    Kathryn Bigelow
    Susanne Beir
    Yann Demange
I’m sure people can add to this list.

This is why Denis Villeneuve needs to direct Bond 25. Spectre had no tension whatsoever.

That's a bloody outstanding scene. Like he says, it's almost like a Barry'esque music composition. Up and down, building to the big time payoff.

Precisely. Campbell will be in his mid to late seventies by the time the next film would come out. By that point he'll no longer have the physicality nor the energy to direct a film of that scope. Plus, why tamper with a legacy?

Exactly. He made 2 different great Bond movies. What different Bond movie can he make that's not like CR or GE?

I haven't seen it, but I'm convinced about this guy now, having researched his films a bit. If there is something that bond needs right now it is both tension and atmosphere, and this guy seems to be a part of a select few who really specialize in that area.

If Campbell was to refuse, I would be in the Villeneuve camp, for certain.

No @jake24 but I will now. Looks fantastic.

What we all loved about FRWL was the tension on the train. Knowing Grant had disguised himself and Bond was at a disadvantage. Also the uncertainty of how he would handle it. We need more stuff in the vein of that.
