Hmm, a difficult one. QOS he had no out of character moments as Bond, but I'm going to have to go with CR for this round, despite breaking into M''s flat. Ian Fleming's 007 would have never been so disrespectful.

    CR

    CR - 20/22
    QOS - 21/22

By default, it's got to be CR.

CR by far. He was much more relaxed, at ease in his tuxedo as well as in casual clothes, had witty dialogues with Eva Green ...

In QOS, he was hovering between the aggrieved on a vengeance and the "unemotional professional" without wit, humour, or even much class. In my opinion, it wasn't his fault, the script being what it was.

I certainly hope that Bond 23 will leave him opportunities to show a wider range of his acting talents.

CR for me. There's nothing wrong that I see from his performance in QOS, but he did better in CR.

The last time I saw the film I felt there was something a little off about Craig in Quantum. He had the same scowl on his face as well as pretty much the same tone of voice in the whole movie.

Casino Royale....but he was great in both films.

For me his performance in QoS is better. He's more Bond, more gentleman yet at the same time ruthless and cold against the ones he hates. The situation is more complex and I think he handles it very well. I also think we see more of the appropriate humour, allthough I'm aware many here don't find it humourous or have trouble understanding the laugh.

Quantum Of Solace. Craig comes across as more comfortable this time in my opinion maybe because he was relaxed going into it after the success of the last film. He can also handle showing Bond's emotions well.

This should only be a great stepping stone for the full-on-Bond of Bond 23. Only two and a half months now...

"the full-on-Bond of Bond 23" you are really building the excitement there @Samuel001

It makes me wonder if that was EON's plan all along.. be 'hip' and relevant for Craig's introduction and then really go for the out and out Bond experience in time for the 50th Anniversary! cant wait. :-)

Casino Royale. He had more to prove here with all the negative press and "Daniel Craig is not Bond!/Bond isn't blond!" criticisms he had to endure before his Bond had even been seen yet. In retrospect, that may very well have helped him to rise to the occasion and give the performance he did.

I actually had a dream about a Bond movie last night, it was surreal, it wasn't in a theater, it was Casino Royale with bits of other pieces in it, Craig was bond and at half time everyone left and went for a walk along this woodland path, in no time at all we had to get back, I got lost and only made it back in time with someone giving directions, took my seat again and then the dream seemed to disintigrate or fade away

First Bond dream ever I think or certainly for some time

QUANTUM OF SOLACE!!!(sorry I'm excited) This film had Craig at his best in my opinion. Yes, CR was the better film, yes Craig was more Bond-ish in CR, and yes CR does more aspects on the Bond wheel well. But QoS is my little gem, and I'll tell you why. When I first saw QoS, I though WHAT DID I JUST SEE?! I was angry that it wasn't CR, and that it didn't have the same feel that CR had, with Bond at the card tables, or Bond having nice casual talks with colleagues. No, Bond was all business in QoS. That is why I like Craig better in it. After rewatching it in different spaces of time, I saw a greatness in it, and I do like it. It isn't Cr, no, but what could be? I watch QoS now and don't do a comparison. The films have different styles, different filmmakers at the head, and new editing, therefore I treat them as separate So in the long run, I got to liking QoS when I saw it would never and could never be CR. On to Craig(for Bond's sake I run on). He handled the acting aspect in a more polished way for me in QoS. CR is by far superior and my personal favorite of the series, but for me Craig's acting is more of a powerhouse in QoS. He IS the film He makes you feel the hurt Bond is experiencing, and he plays the part well when Bond is forced to confront his feelings of past for Vesper. Bond goes through the film with Vesper ever present-the photograph in Siena, the talk with Mathis on the plane, Mathis in his last breaths telling Bond to forgive her, the ending scene. These moments are part of why the movie ends like it did. When Bond throws Vesper's necklace, I'm conflicted, and that interests me. Did he throw it because he acknowledged that she was more to him than any woman before, and wanted to remember her only for that and forget material memories, or did he agree vulnerably and forgive her, but still wanted to forget her? The confusion fuels me. Craig does a brilliant job acting in these emotional scenes. He IS the Bond of CR dealing still with the hurt of the past film. It isn't the DAF situation where Lazenby was put out of center stage for Connery again. DAF should have been Lazenby and more of a revenge film. It made DAF the lesser as a film, with only the PTS having any revengeful tone to it. The same applies with CR and QoS, yet completely differently. Craig is constant in both, he has gone through the events of CR and enters into QoS. It makes a better experience when the actor is constant. We see the same Bond conflicted at his past love lost, and Craig brilliantly shows a Bond that tries to act like Vesper was nothing to him. But the subtle touches-stealing the photo of her and Yusef, the drinks on the plane to forget the hurt and inability to sleep, and the coldness with which he tells off Yusef are all powerful scenes and all so well played. The ending to the film is Craig at his best. Bond calls Vesper a 'friend' and has to watch Yusef charm another girl like Vesper with the same necklace she had. Bond has the eyes of a hurt man, and you can see he wants to hurt Yusef like he was hurt. Just when you think you'll hear a gunshot from inside the apartment, Bond restrains himself and lets the man suffer by being alive with the guilt. So In my eyes, when Bond throws the necklace given to him as he has forgiven and acknowledged the help Vesper gave him(saving his life at the barge in exchange for the money) but still wants to move on with no material objects to remind him of his hurt. As he said to Camille: "I don't think the dead care about vengeance." Bond sees that by being reckless and going out for revenge is not how it should be done. He has to treat Quantum like any other enemy and forget what they did to him personally. He sees that Vesper wouldn't want him risking his life to avenge her. She would want him to be happy like the man she loved.

So all in all, Craig played the scenes I listed with such talent I can't deny what my gut is telling me. He was better in QoS when he acted with Bond's emotions and his pain inside over his loss. CR is a great origin, filled with flashy clothes, cool cars, cards, and great locations and villains, but QoS is Bond forgetting all that as he tries to reason his betrayal, and find some quantum of solace, some small comfort in the loss of the woman he loved so he can move on.

I am tempted to vote for Bond 23, as I am sure it will be a tremendous film, an instant classic ! ;-)
  • Casino Royale. The best performance by any actor as James Bond since Connery's early films. IMHO

CRaig was a true badass in CR. From killing Dryden, chasing down Molloka in the African Rundown, breaking into M's house, crashing into the '64 Astin Martin to get to the security tapes, nearly shagging Solange, outsmarting Carlos in the Miami International Incident, surving a heart attack to beat Le Chiffre, and lastly teaching us all how to be humorous when your testicles are getting smacked by a rope.

I vote for CR because Craig couldn't shag the skinny chick in QOS.

And so it turns out that CR wins its third round in this multi-poll.
    Bernard Lee as M: OHMSS

    John Cleese as R/Q: DAD
Caroline Bliss as Miss Moneypenny: TLD
Daniel Craig as James Bond: CR
And so, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally reached the end of our list. However, 29 is an awkward number, and so I searched and found a 30th entry. It's indeed the same character, but not really a character, and it looks like it's played by the same ... eh ... actor, but not really an actor, and I'm not even sure it is the same 'performer', therefore it's a bit of a stretch this one. But please, since it's the final round and we're looking for a bit of fun, don't take this too seriously? ;;)...

Entry #30 - the final vote: Puss as Blofeld's Cat
